12U All-Stars capture Section 2 Championship!!!!

Moon ends Bullskin's impressive run

Matt Butler was left hanging upside down from the outfield fence, a head-over-heels tumble that proved the Bullskin All-Stars weren't going home sheepishly. It was the fifth inning, Bullskin trailed by six runs and Butler had every reason to stop.
But, like his teammates, he didn't.
"The guys kept going at it," coach Joe Bonadio said Monday after losing to Moon, 9-1, in the championship game of the Section 2 Little League Tournament. "I asked them to give me 100 percent until the end of the game and however the ball bounces, that's how the ball bounces."
Bullskin showed resilience throughout this four-team tournament, having fought through the consolation bracket in the double-elimination format. This time, though, they fell behind early and couldn't keep pace with Moon's powerful lineup.
Moon hit three home runs at Baker Field in Moon Township, including a blast to deep right-center by catcher Mason Prickett that fell just beyond Butler's reach. Those three home runs accounted for five Moon runs, ending Bullskin's first trip to the section championship.
"They have no reason to hang their heads," Bonadio said. "... A lot of people didn't think they'd be here today. We were here and those others are sitting home today. I told them to enjoy that."
The state is divided into eight sections with Section 2 covering Fayette, Allegheny, Westmoreland, Washington, Greene, Beaver, Lawrence and Mercer counties.
Ty Henry scored Bullskin's only run when he singled in the second inning and later scored on Steve White's double to tie the score 1-1. Bullskin collected only five hits off Moon starter Matt Capo, who struck out eight in the six-inning complete game.
"Moon is a solid team," Bonadio said. "They're going to be a tough team to play."
Moon advanced to the Western Division Tournament, a four-day, four-team event beginning Friday in Cranberry. An Eastern Division Tournament will run concurrently in Moscow, Pa. One team from each half of Pennsylvania will meet July 31 for the state championship series.
From there it's on to a regional tournament in Bristol, Conn., with the ultimate goal being the Little League World Series in Williamsport.
"These guys want to go all the way," Moon coach Tim Volek said. "They want to go to Williamsport."
Moon homered twice during a five-run second inning, including a solo homer by Troy Volek and a three-run homer by Marco DeBlassio to lead 6-1.
In the fourth, Rocco Maue doubled and scored to extend Moon's lead to 7-1.
In the fifth, after Prickett's homer, Nick Rozzo doubled and scored on Troy Volek's single to lead 9-1.
Down eight runs, Bullskin tried but couldn't break free from its hitting slump. That hadn't been a problem this weekend when eliminating West Middlesex and West Point in consecutive games.
"Baseball's a funny game," Bonadio said. "You could play today's game on another day and it may not turn out the same."

"What do I do with the Raffle Tickets?"

Moon Baseball Raffle Ticket Program

A common question we hear during registration time is:"What do I do with these raffle tickets?" Well here's the answer. Our raffle ticket program gives your child the opportunity to "play for free” by earning your registration fees through the “sale” of the raffle tickets that you received when you registered your child. Any option you chose benefits your player and Moon Little League Baseball.

You can:

1. “Sell” the tickets that are available at registration and keep the donation, OR

2. Complete the ticket yourself, OR

3. Put “M” on the ticket stub and if that ticket is drawn the prize money is kept by the league and used for our ball program, OR

4. Do nothing. There is absolutely no obligation to sell the tickets or even return them. The Program is designed to help you and your children no matter which option you choose!

Bring your completed stubs to the concession stand at Devenzio Field in Moon Park any time before July 4th.

The drawing will take place during the 4th of July All-Star games at Devenzio Field.
