ROSELEA BATTLE FOR POINT AT FAULDHOUSE
Fauldhouse Utd v Montrose RoseleaSat November 7th 2009 Montrose Roselea travelled to West Lothian to face Fauldhouse Utd in an East Region Premier League match. With 2 points from 6 games Roselea were desperate to pick something up from the game. Roselea stuck with the same team that beat Dyce 5-0 the previous Saturday in the Scottish Cup. On a perfect November afternoon for football the Park View surface was slightly heavy and looked like it may cut up as the match progressed. Roselea: Mcleod, Miller, Whyte, Graham, Doug Craig, Rae, Kerrigan, David Craig, Longmuir, Fraser and Mitchell. Subs: Fotheringham, Mustard, Reoch, Riach, Brand. Roselea opened brightly and were awarded a free kick in 3 minutes. Longmuir took the kick and Kerrigan headed back across goal for Jonny Mitchell and his back flick hit the top of the bar. A minute later and Roselea had another chance when Fraser found himself through with just the keeper to beat but he hit his shot slightly early and Brunton saved with his feet, David Craig followed up with a shot which was well over the bar. Fauldhouse had their first chance in eight minutes and Miller had to block the far post effort behind for a corner. Fauldhouses front pair were starting to cause Roselea problems and they took the lead in 10 minutes. A clearance from the keeper caught Whyte out and O NEILL took the ball around Mcleod before slotting home. Ross Mcleod was called into action when Felvus was sent through and he stood up well to block the shot, the rebound was sent wide. Play was becoming scrappy and bogged down in midfield with no team taking the upper hand. Long balls were again causing problems for the Roselea defence and Mcleod had to be alert on two occasions to clear the danger. Fauldhouse attacked on the right hand side and Callum Rae had to block at the far post with a certain goal prevented. Steve Kerrigan missed a gilt edged chance to bring Roselea back level just on half time. Looking yards offside a clearance from Whyte found him in the penalty box, he dallied and keeper Brunton saved at his feet as he tried to round him. HALF TIME: Fauldhouse 1 Roselea 0 Roselea started the second half brighter as they looked to get back in the game. Mitchell got to the bye-line but his cross was just beyond Longmuir at the far post. In 50 minutes Ross Mcleod prevented Fauldhouse going 2 up as he raced from his goal to clear from Felvus as he broke through again. After Fauldhouse dominating the first half Roselea were starting to make an impression and made several sorties into their opponents half without inflicting any damage. Brand replaced Longmuir. Finally in 77 minutes they grabbed a deserved equaliser. A Doug Craig ball was flicked on by Brand and Jonny MITCHELL used his pace to outstrip Jamie Mckenzie and fired home from a tight angle. Roselea were now on top and another chance fell to Whyte a minute later but he could not direct his header on target with the goal in his sights. Mitchell went close again when his poorly hit shot went just wide. Just as Roselea though three points were going there way Fauldhouse scored a cracking goal. MEECHAN picked the ball up just inside the Roselea half and drifted past two players before sending an unstoppable left foot shot into the top corner. Callum Rae was replaced by Mark Fotheringham. Roselea battled away and got a deserved equaliser in the 87th minute when BRAND lashed home a far post corner from close range. FINAL SCORE: Fauldhouse Utd 2 Montrose Roselea 2 Roselea will view this as a point gained with the hosts having the upperhand for most of the game but they were on top for a spell when they equalised. The second goal removed any hopes of leaving with 3 points. Other results meant Roselea stay 5 points adrift at the bottom. This week Roselea face Armadale at home in the League (Kick off 2.00pm). 3 points from this type of game will be a must of Roselea want to maintain their Premier League status. The following Saturday they also play a League game away to Kinnoull in Perth.
