Montrose Roselea v Carnoustie Panmure
It was league action that returned to Broomfield Park on Saturday when Carnoustie visited in a game both teams looks to win to try pull themselves into mid table position.
Roselea had a number of players carrying knocks but only McKellar missed out adding to Page, Watson and Strachan on the sidelines.
Roselea: McLeod, Reoch(Longmuir), Miller, Graham, Whyte, Rae(Mitchell), Fotheringham, David Craig, Kennedy, Fraser, Kerrigan. Subs: Mustard, Riach, Brand, Doug Craig, Massie.
The game was played in driving rain and very high winds making it difficult for all involved and this was to continue for the majority of the match.
The away side took the lead in 8 minutes with the first real attack when Smith was allowed clear on the left and from his low cross the Roselea defence was posted missing to allow CUMMING to side foot the ball past McLeod to make it 1-0.
Both teams were finding it hard to produce passing football and chances became hard to create but it was the home side that came close in 15 minutes when Rae set up Reoch and from his swirling cross Kerrigan headed goalward but the ball curled away from target with keeper Jamieson stranded.
Carnoustie the came close when McLeod had to rush from his goal to tackle McSkimming and Miller eventually helped out and won a goal kick of the Carnoustie player.
Kerrigan then did well at the other end beating two players but Jamieson got down well to hold the striker’s effort.
In 21 minutes a costly mistake gave Carnoustie a two goal advantage. A passback to keeper McLeod saw the keeper slip in controlling the ball allowing REILLY the easy chance to score from 18yards.
The visitors had another good chance in 30 minutes as Cumming showed good skill in beating his opponent and from his cross Narey shot wide from a good position.
Roselea made a change at this time bringing on Longmuir to replace Reoch and shuffling the defensive formation.
In 40 minutes Miller was cautioned for a foul on Cumming and from the free kick McLoed had to push the swirling ball behind for a corner.
HALF TIME – ROSELEA 0 CARNOUSTIE 2
Another change was made by Roselea at the interval with Mitchell replacing Rae as the home side set up a more attacking formation.
The more positive approach from Roselea allowed them more options and Longmuir saw a lob land on the top of the net as the home side looked to reduce the deficit.
Mitchell then went clear on the right but his cross went behind Kerrigan and the chance was lost.
Carnoustie increased their lead in 57 minutes with a goal that the home side must be furious about. From a Roselea attack REILLY picked the ball up well inside his own half and without a challenge reached the penalty area at the other end before firing a low shot into the corner of the net.
Fraser the tried his luck for Roselea but his shot on the turn went narrowly wide as the home side continued to be frustrated with lack of chances.
Miller was next to try his luck but he could not get direction to the driven corner from Fraser and the chance went amiss.
The game became a bit scrappy after and Graham and Fotheringham were cautioned with Reilly of Carnoustie lucky to escape punishment for his retaliation.
McLeod then had to make a diving save from McIlravey as he was clean through on goal with the home defence knowhere to be seen.
In 83 minutes Roselea reduced the deficit when keeper Jamieson failed to clear an inswinging corner and KERRIGAN pounced from close range.Kerrigan the came close minutes later as his header from a Miller cross went just past the post.
The game was still not finished and in 89 minutes MITCHELL made it 3-2 as the Carnoustie defence stood and watched a hanging ball drop into the six yard area where Mitchell controlled and turned, slipping the ball past the keeper.
The last chance of the game fell to Carnoustie but Longmuir made a great ball winning tackle to stop Cumming.
FULL TIME – ROSELEA 2 CARNOUSTIE 3
Roselea almost managed to take something from the game but a continual amounts of errors made and a lack of creation in forward positions now mean they must roll up their sleeves and battle to get back into contention for a mid table slot.
This Saturday (31st October) sees Scottish Cup action return with Dyce from the North League who Roselea eliminated last season visiting Broomfield Park. Kick Off 2pm.
