GA CUP KO AT BANKFOOT

Roselea made their way to Bankfoot to play in the first round of the GA Cup with Page, Watson, Mitchell, Strachan and Longmuir all out injured.

Roselea: McLeod, Miller, Graham, Whyte, Craig, Rae, Mustard, Craig, Kerrigan, McKellar, Rioch. Subs: Fraser, Brand, Fotheringham, Kennedy, Reoch

On a perfect day for football Roselea started the brighter side and soon had the Bankfoot defence under pressure without creating any clear cut chances. Bankfoot having soaked up the pressure were now coming into the game, some good play down the left saw the ball come in to Stewart who turned his marker and seemed to scuff his shot but it somehow bounced over McLeod into the net.

Roselea responded well and from a flick on from Kerrigan a shot on the turn from Rioch hit a defender and landed in the arms of the keeper. Mustard was next having a shot blocked after some good play between McKellar and Rioch. From a couple of corners Whyte headed back across goal but there were no takers. This was the pattern of play with the final ball being well defended or not finding the strikers. Roselea were caught out however when a goal kick found Stewart, who beat Mcleod to the ball to head into the empty net.

Half time Bankfoot 2 Roselea 0

Roselea began the second half with a back three with Whyte pushed into midfield and Kerrigan up front however they continued to be thwarted by the Bankfoot defence which was well marshalled by Jim Weir.

Mustard who took a knock was replaced by Fraser who began to create problems down the Bankfoot left. Roselea were rewarded eventually when a long ball from Craig beat the defence and found McKellar at the back post that beat Whyte with an angled shot.

Roselea pushed for an equaliser aware that they were exposed at the back and this proved to be the case when some excellent play on the left resulted in the ball being played to Lindsay who turned his defender before shooting past McLeod.

Roselea were now throwing everyone forward, a free kick from Fraser saw his shot rebound off the goalkeeper only to see the follow up by Rioch go over the bar. Pressure was mounting and from one of many corners sent in by Fraser one was met by Whyte to score a second for Roselea.Brand came on to replace the hard working Rioch up front as Roselea pressed for the equaliser. Fraser producing the best chance when his chip shot was turned for a corner by the keeper.

Bankfoot whose wingers had caused Roselea problems all day ran out time over at the corner flag. This was a disappointing result for Roselea although up against a decent Bankfoot team who have been doing well in the cups.

Final score Bankfoot 3 Roselea 2

Roselea return to League action next week at home to Carnoustie Panmure in a match which kicks off at 2.30pm. With Canoustie having picked up their first win on Saturday against Fauldhouse this match takes on a greater importance for Roselea as they attempt to climb into the mid table area.
