LACK OF DISCIPLINE COSTS ROSELEA DEARLY

Saturday 12th September 2009 East Region Premier League Montrose Roselea v St Andrews Utd.

Saturday started a run of three homes games in a row for Roselea at Broomfield Park with St Andrews Utd  the first in an East Region Premier League fixture.

Roselea: McLeod, Miller(Mustard), Graham, Whyte, Doug Craig(Fotheringham), Rae, David Craig, Kerrigan, Longmuir(Brand), Fraser, Watson. Subs: Reoch, Strachan.

The home side was given a wake up call in the first minute as a dangerous cross had to be cleared at the back post by David Craig before anyone could pounce.McLeod was then called into action having to race from his goal to block from Farquharson before the ball broke to the other end and Watson saw his effort blocked by keeper Davidson before turned behind for a corner.

Watson again was next to try his luck but this time his left foot shot curled past as Roselea became more dangerous. In 15 minutes the home side were reduced to 10 men as new striker Fraser was firstly cautioned for a challenge and before the game could restart was shown a second yellow card for speaking out of turn. The lack of a striker did not deter Roselea and they were awarded a penalty in 19 minutes when Watson was upended in the penalty area by McInroy but keeper Davidson saved Watson’s low spot kick.Sutherland then had the ball in the net with a header from a dangerous cross but was ruled offside and the scoreline remained blank.

The game went through a quiet spell until 33 minutes when Maxwell was sent clean through on goal for St Andrews but dragged his shot past the post. This was to prove costly as minutes later Roselea were awarded another penalty and this time MILLER put the keeper the wrong way to make it 1-0.The home side failed to hold their lead and in 38 minutes SUTHERLAND drove home from close range when Roselea failed to clear a dangerous corner. It was the ten men of Roselea who was more dangerous with Watson heading a cross past the keeper only for McInroy to rush back and clear off the goal line. The striker then set up Longmuir but his shot was off target as the half time whistle approached.

HALF TIME – ROSELEA 1 ST ANDREWS UTD 1

Roselea made a change at the interval with Fotheringham coming on to replace Doug Craig but it was St Andrews who shocked Roselea with a goal with the first attack. Maxwell sent a cross into o the penalty area from wide on the left and SUTHERLAND was left with the easy task of scoring from close in.This shook the home side but they had a great chance to level in 59 minutes.

Watson leading the line well won the ball and after his shot rebounded from the keeper Fotheringham hit the post with the rebound. The game deteriorated for Roselea shortly after when David Craig retaliated on a St Andrews player leaving the home side with nine men.The reduced number continued to work hard and forced a number of corners without causing serious problems to the away defence.Graham was then forced to make a last ditch tackle as Munsin attempted to race clear on goal.St Andrews were dangerous on the break with the extra men and Farquharson shot wide from a good position.

Roselea made their first change when Mustard replaced Miller as they kept pushing forward trying to salvage the game and Whyte saw his header drift wide from a Longmuir free kick.McLeod was forced to make a blocking save from Munsin before the second attempt went across goal and behind. In 85 minutes Brand came on for Longmuir as Roselea made their last switch in trying to get something from the game but the last effort saw Whyte having his header cleared.
