Bearcats 7th at State
The Bearcats opened the state tournament with a win against Central Kitsap, shutting them out 2-0 and a no hitter by Jordan Birch. In the second game against Shadle Park, the Cats dropped to the loosers bracket with a 7-1 loss. The one run came on a solo home run by Briar Stanley. In the final game of the day the Bearcats moved on to Saturday with a 1-0 win over Mountainview. On Saturday the Cats bid for tournament hardware ended with a 6-4 loss to Wilson. The 7th place finish was the best performance in the last three trips to the tournament, Congratulations to all the players.

Cats battle back and earn 3rd spot to state
After loosing their second game at the district tournament, the Bearcats battled back to defeat Cascade and Mountlake Terrace and earn the 3rd spot to State and their 3rd consecutive trip to the tournament. Briar Stanley and Tessa Degel had the RBI's in both games respectively while Jordan Birch shut down the apponents with a total of 58 K's for the tournament. The Cats will open the state tournament against Central Kitsap at 9:00, Friday May 23rd.

Bearcats 1-0 over Snohomish on Senior Day
On the seniors last home game as a Bearcat, the team gave the crowd another story book ending. In a 0-0 tie going into the bottom of the 7th, Emily Guluarte reached 1st on a walk and Tessa Degel sacrificed her to second. In an attempt to intentionally walk Briar Stanley, a pitch was left a little to close to the plate allowing Briar to rip a single to center scoring the game winning run. The Bearcats finished the regular season 16-2, Wesco North champions and enter the district tournament as the number one seed from the North.

Bearcats 11-1 over Oak Harbor
In the top of the second, with bases loaded, Briar Stanley hit her first HS career grand slam home run. The Cats scored three more in the inning, one in the third and three in the seventh. Jordan Birch had 18 strike outs and batted 3 for 3. The Bearcats play their final game today at home against Snohomish on senior day.

Bearcats 6-2 over Arlington
After a disapointing loss to Marysville, the Bearcats bounced back against Arlington scoring 5 of it's 6 runs in the first inning. Emily Guluarte was 1-3 with a 2RBI double, Haley McCutchan was 3-3 with a 2RBI double and Jordan Birch led off the first with a triple and had 14 K's. The Cats improve to 12-2 (14-2) and travel to Oak Harbor on Tuesday.

Tessa Degel Hits Game Winning Home Run
In a scoreless match up into the 7th inning, Tessa Degel hit a solo home run on a full count and one out. It was her first HS career home run and just enough for the bearcats to win, 1-0. Jordan Birch allowed just one hit with 16 strike outs and improved the Bearcats record to 11-1 league, 13-1 overall. The Cats face Marysville today after an attempt to battle the elements on Tuesday which was canceled after 3 innings due to rain.

Bearcats Sweep Lake Stevens
In their second match up with Lake Stevens, the Bearcats were fueled by a nit picky call by the Lake Stevens coach to have a band aid removed from Jordan Birch's pitching finger in the second inning. The Cats responded with a 2 out, 2RBI double in the 6th by Haley McCuthan and error free defense to blank the Vikings, 3-0. The Bearcats travel to Meadowdale on Thursday for a non-conference match up.

Bearcats 1-0 over Stanwood, 9-1 League
In a scoreless match up into the bottom of the 5th, Jordan Faulds led off with a double to spark a rally that ended with Jordan Birch scoring the game winning run. The win extends the Bearcats winning streak to 6 games. The Cats travel to Lake Stevens today to take on the Vikings.

Bearcats Move Into 1st With Win Over Everett
On a rare sunny afternoon and with standing room only at Everett's Lincoln Field, a pitchers dual took shape early. After 7 scoreless innings, the Bearcats opened the 8th with a lead off 2B from Jordan Birch to spark a 4 run inning. Tessa Degel followed up with an RBI 2B and then Haley McCuthan added an RBI single. The final blow came with Catherine Brakke's 2 run HR. The 4-1 win puts Monroe back in first place in the Wesco North. The Bearcats will be busy this week with 4 games starting with Shorewood at home.

8-1 Win Over Oak Harbor
The Bearcats added another win last night against Oak Harbor, 8-1. With rain, hail and sun, both teams endured muddy conditions and finished the entire 7 inning game. Catherine Brakke came up big with a 3rd inning double to score two followed by a 4th inning double and RBI by Tessa Degel. Briar Stanley also contributed going 3-4 with an RBI to give Jordan Birch all the offense she needed as she struck out 18 and also hit a triple. The Bearcats travel to Everett on Friday to take on the Seagulls.

Bearcats Bounce Back
After a heartbreaking loss to Cascade, 1-0, the Bearcats came out strong against Marysville winning, 5-1. The Cats scored 3 in the first and added one run in the third and sixth innings. The bats came alive with doubles from Nicole Reyling, Haley McCutchan and Jordan Birch. Briar Stanley, Catherine Brakke and Amanda Abbott also had base hits for a total of 8 hits on the night. Jordan Birch struck out 13 with three hits allowed and one earned run. The Bearcats return to the field on April 8th at home to take on Oak Harbor.

Bearcat Softball Camp
On March 22nd the Monroe High School softball players and coaches, sponsored by H&L Sports held their first fastpitch softball camp. The camp was attended by 45 female athletes ages 6-12 who received instruction on the proper fundamentals of windmill pitching, catching, throwing, hitting, fielding, base running, sliding and catcher techniques. The camp was a great opportunity for the Bearcat softball team to connect with the areas up and coming athletes and continue to build awareness and interest for softball.

Monroe's Jordan Birch, Bearcats win duel
Hits were few and far between in the division opener for both teams, so it came down to mistakes. Everett made more, including three errors that led to both runs in Monroe's 2-0 triumph. Tessa Degel scored the Bearcats' first run. After Briar Stanley's triple to left field, Degel did a squeeze bunt. Everett threw out Stanley at home, but then a Seagull throwing error allowed Degel to come all the way around and score

Monroe's Birch pitches 3rd perfect game
Jordan Birch strikes out 17 and pitched a perfect game for the third time in her prep softball career as the Bearcats defeated Edmonds-Woodway 7-0 Wednesday. Edmonds-Woodway was able to put the ball in play just four times. Briar Stanley hit 3-4 RBI 3B, Nicole Rogers 3-3 RBI 2B, Haley McCuthen RBI 2B. The Bearcats scheduled season opener against Kamiak was postponed due to rain and rescheduled for Thurs. March 13th.

Softball Tryouts
The Bearcat Softball program received a great turnout this week for the 2008 season. 47 athletes experienced spring like weather as they went through the paces over the last 4 days. The coaching staff is very excited with the talent and enthusiasm they've seen and are confident they can field three very competitive teams. The players and coaches will continue to work hard over the next week as they prepare for the Varsity and JV Jamborees and the upcoming season.

Bearcats Ready to Reload for the 2008 Season
With the 2008 High School Fastpitch season just around the corner, the bearcats will be looking to match last season's Wesco title and improve on their state tournament finish. The program is confident they can reload in key positions graduated last year by first team Wesco North and All Area SS-Kayla Wangner and 3B-Sarah Elledge. This years Junior, Sophomore and Freshman class hold a lot of promise to make big contributions to an already solid returning varsity team.

2008 Season Preview
Curt Eskeback will be entering his 12th season as the Bearcat head coach. For the first time the Bearcats won the Wesco championship, second straight Wesco North title and made their second straight trip to the State Championship tournament. Along the way they set 6 school records, some of which included 16 home runs, 13 shutouts and two perfect games. Five Bearcat players were honored with first team selection to Wesco North and All-Area along with 2 players selected to the All-State second team. Last year’s graduating class will leave some tough holes to fill but the coaching staff is confident they will be able to complete a varsity roster that will be able to compete for the State championship.

Jordan Birch Signs Letter of Intent
Jordan Birch signed a national letter of intent during the November early signing period to play softball for the Illinois State Redbirds. Last season the Redbirds finished second in the Missouri Valley Conference and received an at large birth to the NCAA regional tournament. Jordan along with four other recruits will join the Redbird team in the fall of 2008

2007 Graduates Continue Softball Career
All four graduating seniors plan to continue their softball careers in college. Sarah Elledge is attending Central Washington University and will be playing softball for the Wildcats. Kayla Wangner, Ashley Wiegele and Jenna Kirksey are all attending Everett Communicty College and will be playing softball for the Trojans.
