Tuesday, September 23
Broncos traveled to Los Banos and opened up the offense against a the Wildcats. #12 Mario Sanchez had a banner night passing for over 200 yards and two touchdowns and ran one in. The Broncos first drive Sanchez connected with #9 Dominique Browner for a 45 yard pass and catch and great over the shoulder grab to put the first points on the board. The Broncos defense stepped up and wouldn't give a whole lot of ground to the Wildcats. #1 Jarell Rogers and #4 Troy Larkin were a great combination combining for over 400 yards on the ground. Rogers had 14 carries for 330 yards and Larkin complimented the backfield with 6 carries for 110 yards. #12 Sanchez was on target all night connecting again to #6 Chris Lein for a 50 yard pass and catch for a TD. In the 4th quarter Sanchez took the bootleg and with blockers out in front he scampered 15 yards for a Bronco score. Defensively the Broncos were relentless, with several sacks and hits for losses behind the line of scrimmage. The Broncos had the Cats on their own 5 yard line when the dropped back to pass and Bronco outside linebacker #23 Joseph Palacios came in and put the hammer on the QB, who coughed up the ball in the end-zone and #76 Jeffery Polousey jumped on the ball for the touchdown. #27 Jared Mora had a good day as well, catching a key 3rd down pass for 25 yards and grabbing a ball out of the air for an extra point attempt. #51 Left Tackle Roy Johns was thrown a bone, and punched in another extra point for a TD as well. The Broncos racked up over 600 yards of total offense. The Broncos face the Bears in Merced at 3 pm to attempt to break a 3 way tie for first place.
Tuesday, September 23
The Broncos defense stepped up and shut out a big Livingston Viking team. #1 Jarell Rogers had an explosive night, carrying the ball 16 times for 230 yards. Rogers got great blocking from #6 Chris Lein and #23 Joseph Palacios. Sanchez connected to #7 Joey Blunt for a couple of nice throws and catches. The Vikings #4 was big and strong and gave the Broncos all they could handle but in the end, the Broncos were just too fast for the Vikings and walked away with the first shut out of the season. Coach Dietz states "You can see the kids developing nicely, and Rogers hit the holes we needed him too and it paid off". The Broncos travel to Los Banos, game time is at 7 pm.

Modesto Broncos came out Saturday night to a capacity crowd to see the Varsity Modesto Broncos clash with the Turlock Vikings. The Vikings take the opening drive and run off their right side to #21 Andy Mendez who little by little took big chunks and eventually punched it into the endzone on a 12 yard scamper off tackle.
The Broncos took the opening kick-off and on their first offensive play #12 Mario Sanchez dropped back and found a wide open #7 Joey Blunt flying past the Turlock corner, Mario made a nice throw and it landed softly into the arms of Blunt who scampered into the endzone for a 70 yard catch and run. The Broncos drove again late in the 2nd quarter down to the 5 yard line but Sanchez had a misque and tried to hit TE #27 Jared Mora in the endzone but it was intercepted. The Vikings then drove down again and #21 Mendez punched it in again from the 6 yard line. The battle went back and forth but the Broncos were unable to connect and the running game was unable to become un-corralled. The end of the 4th quarter found a rotation of players in the game and the Vikings punched a long 30 yard run up the middle to put the nail in the coffin for the Broncos. "Kids fought hard, we just couldn't get our backs into the open field to do what they do best, Lewis did a great job of containing our backfield, and when we adjusted it was little too late". Next game will be against Livingston Vikings at home at 8 p.m.

The NYFL has placed an ad in the paper for the Modesto area. To properly educate those who would even consider that option let me give you a few facts. NYFL takes and allows high school age kids to play which is not "Youth football", they pay their executive board out of monies paid for by the kids, they are NOT the only league which all teams go to playoffs, Cen-Cal does as well. They continuelly have have teams leaving because of the amount that has to be paid for new teams to join which in the thousands. Cen-Cal requires a 300 dollar fee to join. Cen-Cal was established over 25 years ago and has been well established and solid for years. All organizations are NON-Profit and no monies go to coaches or board members. Travel as well is very minimal, all teams within 45 minutes of Modesto. Cen-Cal does not allow high school age kids to play against Junior High children. Cen-Cal is without a doubt the most competitive leage in the valley. Many High School coaches, coach at the various levels and are supported by the local CCC and MMC schools. We would admit that the ad in the paper is impressive but not factual. Ask around before you join any organization. Teams and leagues that have been established for a long period of time show a long history of success.

The Modesto Broncos Youth Football and Cheer Organization would like to send out our thoughts and prayers to Steve and Melissa Tilford. Their son Matt was recently in an accident and has sustained serious injury. We at the Broncos would like to extend our heart felt prayers to the Tilfords in this time of need. We wish Matt all the best and to let him know he will be in our thoughts through these trying times. We too would like to extend our support to the Steeler organization and to let them know although we are opponents upon the field of play, we are neighbors and friends to the youth, board and alumnni of both communities and they have our support during these difficult times.
Wednesday, September 3
On a hot day the Broncos took the field not sure of what to expect from a fast Cougar team. The Broncos kicked off and the 2008 Season was underway. The Cougars quickly drove down field and punched it into the endzone to go up on the Broncos. The Broncos answered back with a 60 yard drive capped by an end around to Troy Larkin who scampered around the Cougar defense and head into the endzone. The Cougars drive ended when their QB dropped back to pass and Chris Lein intercepted it from his left outside linebacker spot and rumbled 32 yards for another Bronco Touchdown. The Broncos then again drove down field and on a mis-direction play Joseph Palacios scampered around the end to score for the third time for the Broncos. The Broncos again drove up the field in the 3rd Quarter and on a quick hitter up the middle #6 Chris Lein burst up the middle for 35 yards and another Bronco TD. The Broncos kicked off and the Cougars #22 burst up the left sidelines and turned on the burners as he outran the kick-off coverage and scored the second Cougar TD. The kick was good. The Broncos then received the ball and on the legs of #1 Jarell Rogers drove 80 yards downfield and on a pitch left, and key blocks from #51 Roy Johns, #6 Chris Lein and #23 Joseph Palacios, Rogers made it to the Endzone untouched. The kick by #6 Lein was good. The Bronco defense held the rest of the 4th quarter and sealed the victory. Next week the Broncos face off with the Turlock Vikings, a re-match of the 2008 Super Bowl at home. Kick-Off is 8 pm at Modesto Christian.
Thursday, August 30
The Varsity dropped it's opening day game to the Turlock Vikings by a score of 16 - 6. The Broncos kicked off and within 5 plays the Vikings put 6 on the board. "We were unable to stop their passing game, our corners were totally out of position" says Tony Luna, Defensive Coordinator. The Broncos moved quickly down field with a pass down the left side from Taylor to Bautista, putting the Broncos within distance to tie things up. The Broncos failed to move the ball and Turlock re-gained posession. On the next drive, the Vikings moved the ball downfield and were able to score again on a catch and run down the right side of the field. With the game 16-0 after the end of the first quarter, the Broncos regained their composure and stepped up on defense, shutting out the Vikings for the next three quarters. The Broncos put together a drive in the 4th quarter which resulted in a 12 yard touchdown run up the middle by Deshawn Craig. The extra point was muffed and with 1:36 left on the clock, Modesto was not able to rebound. The Broncos travel to Hilmar to take on the hard hitting Packers. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
Monday, September 3
The Broncos after a hard week of practice knew they had their hands full with the Hilmar Packers. The Broncos chose to go on Defense first to start the game and the Packers were off and running. The Broncos put up a fight and stopped the Packers before they could get any further. Two plays on offense later, Deshawn Craig burst around the corner and galloped 72 yards down the sidelines for the score. Kevin Bautista booted the extra point to add 2 to the score. The Packers re-gathered themselves and put together a spectacular drive, punching it in from the one yard line, and the kick tied the game at 8. The Broncos were met with resistance by the Packer defense, when Ryan Taylor dropped back to pass and the ball bounced off the hands of Bautista into a Packer defeneder's hands and the Pack took the lead 16-8 after their extra point. A battle insisted at midfield till Deshawn Craig took one up the middle, made a few moves, cut behind a great block by Bautista and scampered 42 yards to the endzone. Bautista booted the extra point to tie the game at 16. In the last minutes the Broncos were in Hilmar territory and time ran out. The Broncos went on defense first and the Pack punched it in and converted the extra point. The Broncos went on offense and on Third down, QB Ryan Taylor snuck it over the top. With the crowd on the edge of their seat waiting for the conversion, a bad snap insued and Eckart couldn't put it down, tried to run it and was brought down, ending the game. Broncos travel to Oakdale this next week to take on the Stampede.
Sunday, September 9
Broncos Varsity stepped up and met the challenge after starting out of the gate 0-2. Ryan Taylor stepped up and off play action threw a perfect strike to Gary Huff on a corner route for a 35 yard touchdown. Dewhawn Craig rushed for big yards and scored two touchdowns, hitting the holes off tackle and a nice stiff arm down the sidelines to add to his stats. Justin Kennedy busted another around the corner and scampered 30 yards for another score. Austin Eckert from the FB spot pounded one in after a 70 yard run up the middle and was brought down at the 4 yard line. Two plays later Eckert pounded it in over the right side behind Polousey and Fouts. The last score was ran in by Obgeide around the end and he scampered 25 yards to put the icing on the cake. Bautista was 5 for 6 on extra points giving the Broncos a 46-24 victory. This was a turning point in the season, Broncos opened against two very solid teams and dropped to Turlock by one touchdown and went into O.T. with the Packers. The Varsity staff knew we would take some lumps at first but now are coming together and getting better day by day. The Broncos will settle in at home to face the Merced Bears. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at Modesto Christian field.
Monday, September 17
Varsity Broncos stepped onto their home field ready to defend and refusing to give up ground. As the offense struggled in the first quarter, the defense lead by Paulo Alvarez, shut down the Bear attack. Several players on defense stepped up and helped shut down the passing game of Merced, including Ryan Taylor and Sergio Ballard. Dewhawn Craig scored the first TD of the game, and continued to carry the rock all day, amassing over 200 yard on the ground. Craig racked up 4 td's on the ground and Taylor connected with Bautista to finish the game off. "This was a good start to climb out of the position we put ourselves into, and as a team were growing and getting better day by day." -Dietz. The Broncos travel to Ceres this week to face off with the Ceres Seahawks.
Monday, September 24
The Varsity Broncos came into Delhi with high hopes of moving up in the ranks. One problem, they had to be ready to kncok down the #2 seed at the time. The Broncos came out flat and everything that could go wrong did. Broncos drove the field and scored on a pass/catch from Taylor to Tomassi for a 15 yard strike. After that, the Seahawks drove down field and exploited the Broncos pass coverage and scored on a pass/catch. The Seahawks kicked the extra point and pulled up 8-6. The Broncos offense failed to convert on key third downs, and weren't firing off the ball. "This game was a good lesson in playing the game hard and putting it all on the field, the offense looked horrible and we werent' blocking up front and winning that battle, now this puts us in a prediciment for home field advantage" - Dietz. The Broncos MUST rebound and climb back up into the standings.
Monday, October 8
The Broncos knew they had to pull out a tough game in order to make a run. All week coaches watched film and prepared for the Vikings. The Broncos stepped up big time and excuted well and pulled off a huge win. The offense drove the ball well and took it down to the Livingston 2 yard line when Ryan Taylor followed Paulo Alvarez over center to punch in the first score. The Bronco defense was in top form, making great plays and hitting hard. The Vikings were driving when Paulo Alvarez made a huge hit and the ball popped loose and #7 Kevin Bautista swooped up the fumble and rumbled 30 yards to add another score. The Broncos defense was stellar, and three times the Vikings were inside the 10 yard line and the Broncos stuffed them and took posession. The Broncos drove again and took it to the Viking 1 yard line when again Ryan Taylor punched it in for another score. Dietz - "This was huge for us, we've been waiting for this team to break out, we adjusted our defense during the week and it helped because we had seen and watched Livingston play and our defense knew exactly what they were going to do on every play and that helped". Livingston is a top notch team, full of athletes but the Broncos stood in and went blow for blow with them. Dietz- "They are a very good team, with great players, we should see them again making a run at it". The Broncos are back home against the Atwater Falcons at 7:00 p.m.
Tuesday, October 16
The Broncos came out fired up in front of a home crowd and stunned the Falcons 42-0. Connecting to #7 Kevin Bautista for a 70 yard strike down the left sidelines and connecting again with his Tight End, #51 Frank Tomassi for another throw and catch. Taylor as well punched one in on a QB keep and #36 Justin Kennedy rumbled for two scores. Defensively #21 Sergio Ballard picked one off, #51 Frank Tomassi had a pick and rumbled down to the 3 yard line, and #7 Kevin Bautista picked one off as well. Dietz-"Out defense is really stepping up, allowing only 13 points in the last 5 games, and putting huge pressure on QB's while our Linebackers are getting things done on the outside". The Broncos travel to Waterford next week to take on the Sabrecats at 4 p.m. at Waterford High School.
Monday, October 22
The Broncos sputtered a bit in the first half, but as always, the defense stepped up and kept the Sabrecats caged. When the Sabrecats tried a sweep to the right, #32 Deshawn Craig placed a solid hit on the running back who coughed up the ball and it was swept up by #7 Kevin Bautista who rumbled 40 yards for the Broncos first score. The defense was stingy and the offense picked up the pace. #12 Austin Eckert connected on two touchdown passes to #51 Frank Tomassi for a 20 yard strike and #36 Justin Kennedy for another 20 yard catch and score. #71 Paulo Alvarez accounted for another bit score as he took the hand off up the middle, broke several tackles and rumbled into the enzone for a 37 yard touchdown run.
Wednesday, October 31
Before the kick-off, you could feel that this was going to be a classic battle between the Broncos and 49ers. The 49ers won the toss and drove down field but the Bronco "D" stepped up and put a halt to the opening drive. The Broncos received the ball and several plays later #10 Ryan Taylor was hot and passed the ball down field to #7 Kevin Bautista to move the chains and a score. The game went back and forth and just seconds before half, the Broncos executed a half back pass with #39 Justin Kennedy connecting with #7 Bautista in the back of the endzone for a score before half. In the second half the 49ers knew they had to score but #21 Sergio Ballard would not allow the ball to go downfield, picking off two passes with over 40+ yards of returns deep into Bronco territory. #10 Ryan Taylor executed a 7:20 drive in the 4th quarter and snuck it in over the top behind #71 Paulo Alvarez to put the nail in the coffin. The 49ers charged back but only had 3 + minutes to work with, #36 Bryce Simmons rumbled for 35 yards, cutting back an off tackle play and dodging a few tacklers to scamper into the endzone. The Broncos held off and took away the victory. The game ball was presented to #21 Sergio Ballard who posted a handful of open field tackles and picking off two passes. The Broncos dropped the 49ers from first to fourth place and the Broncos moved up into 2nd seed. The Broncos moved up in the ranks with the #1 offense in the NFC and #2 defense in the NFC. After half ended, the Broncos rolled up 32 unanswered points against the cross town rivals, Salida Steelers. Deshawn Craig rushed for over 200 yards as he scampered into the enzone a handful of times. Dietz- "We ran the ball well and took advantage of some of the covereage we were getting, Craig ran well and has improved throughout the season". The Broncos host Waterford in the first round of the playoffs at Modesto Christian High School at 7:00 p.m.
Thursday, November 22
The Broncos got off to a slow start but the defense shut down the Sabrecats and running behind Dewhawn Craig, the Broncos drove up and down the field. The Broncos had a great push off the line and Craig rushed for over 200 yards in a huge Playoff victory over the visiting Waterford team. The Broncos will play the Turlock 49ers in another classic game.
Thursday, November 22
The Broncos knew they had their hands full with a great coached 49er team. Three weeks earlier the Broncos won a hard fought battle against Turlock and pulled out a 19-6 win. This was playoffs and this was going to be a battle. Turlock came out on the opening drive and in three plays pounded the ball into the enzone on the legs of #36 Bryce Simmons. The Broncos drove down field but their drive stalled. The 49ers again drove down field and punched the ball in to make it 14-0, the PAT was blocked. The Broncos regained their composure and drove down field, punching the ball up the middle and #32 Deshawn Craig leaped into the enzone to make it 14-8 on a good PAT by #7 Kevin Bautista. The Broncos went into halftime down 14-8. On the opening kick-off of the 2nd half, #7 Kevin Bautista broke it down the left side of the field, picked up several key blocks and took it 75 yards for a Bronco touchdown. Bautista then kicked his second PAT to pull ahead of the 49ers 16-14. The Broncos made some key adjustments and the 49ers were stopped on several drives. The Broncos in the 4th quarter drove downfield and facing a key 3rd and 12, #10 Ryan Taylor dropped back in the pocket and threw a perfect strike to #7 Bautista for a 20+ yard gain. The Broncos drove to the goal line and behind #71 Alvarez, Taylor plunged forward into the endzone to make it 24-14 after another Bautista kick. With 2 minutes left, the Broncos ran #32 off tackle and he scampered down the sidelines for an 80 yard score, with the kick the Broncos were in the lead 32-14. The Niners drove down field but it was little too late, scoring on a nice catch to #7 , the missed field goal made it 32-20. The Broncos took a knee and win the game. Broncos will play the Championship game against the Ceres Seahawks in Ceres for the rights to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.
Saturday, November 24
The Broncos will be re-visiting Ceres to take on the Ceres Seahawks. This game was decided by 2 points last time, with the Broncos ripping off 9 games in a row heading into today. The Seahawks since lost to the 49ers 22-6 and were beat as well by Manteca Jaguars. The Broncos head into today with the #1 offense in the NFC and #2 defense behind the Seahawks by 7 points. The Broncos are playing better football week in and week out and getting stronger as the Seahawks struggled against the Atwater Falcons just last week pulling out a 12-8 victory. The winner of this game will face either the Merced Cougars or Turlock Vikings in the Super Bowl next saturday in Turlock at 7 p.m.
Monday, November 26
The Varsity Broncos walked into Ceres knowing they had to step up their game and defeat the Ceres Seahawks on their home turf. From the get go prior to the game, we knew it was going to be intense. Seahawks looked ready but so did the Broncos. For the past month the Bronco players said repeatedly how bad they wanted to avenge the loss in Ceres. The Broncos deferred the toss and went on Defense first. A couple of hard hits from #71 Paulo Alvarez set the tone for the defense. There was a stalemate on both sides and it was 0-0 after the first quarter. In the second quarter the Broncos moved the ball effectively but were unable to punch it in. With 6 minutes to go before half, Justin Kennedy #36 handled the toss from Taylor and held up and threw a perfect pass to #7 Kevin Bautista for a 60 yard score. Bautista made the kick and the Broncos went in at halftime 8-0. On the opening kick-off of the half #7 Bautista took off up the left sidelines and scampered 65 yards to the Ceres 22 yard line. On the next play the ball bounced off Bautistas hands and #11 for Ceres snagged it out of the air and dashed down the sidelines with the ball, #32 Deshawn Craig chased him down and took him down. The Defense stepped up and stopped the Seahawk charge. The Broncos regained posession and drove down field and took it to the 1 yard line. Taylor handed off to #12 Austin Eckert for the dive and he pounded his way into the endzone for the second Bronco touchdown. The game went back and forth and Ceres drove down field behind #9. On third and goal, they gave it to #20 who drove in behind #99 for a Ceres score. The battle went back and forth and on a key 4th and 12, the Broncos coaches noticed previously that the Seahawks blitzed the outside backers and were crashing the ends. With this knowledge the Broncos went for it on 4th and 12 deep in Ceres territoty, Taylor took the snap, rolled to the right and stopped and threw back across the field to #32 Craig who had three blockers out in front and he scampered 80 yards for a touchdown sealing the championship game for the Broncos. Dietz-" This team was ready for Ceres, we knew we had blown one and no excuses but that game we were playing 7 kids with the flu, they knew that payback was important and they stepped up and played great football". The Broncos will be traveling to Turlock to take on the Turlock Vikings, a re-match of the 2000 Super Bowl.
Thursday, December 6
The Broncos practiced hard all week and had an awesome scouting plan, but just two plays into the game it all came unraveled. The Vikings 2nd play of the game, #7 A.J. Derr dropped back to pass and heaved it out to #21 Zack Olsen, when #10 Ryan Taylor came flying over and swiped at the ball, Olsen caught the pass scampered down the sidelines while #10 Taylor lay on the ground in pain. Taylor fell wrong and injured his knee to the point he needed carried off the field. The Broncos offense who are known for their passing attack now knew it had to keep the ball on the ground. The Broncos took the posession and drove down field and punched it into the endzone behind #12 Austin Eckert. The Vikes and Broncos went back and forth until the Vikings put up another score and stopped the Bronco attack. Towards the end of the first half the Vikings put another one into the endzone and the Broncos were still ineffective on offense.
The second half brought back hope as Taylor was ready to go back in, but injured and sore, he was not the same as he had been prior to the injury. The Broncos moved the ball somewhat, but with the score the way it was, took the play calling in a different direction. Turlock was able to pass the football, but couldn't move the ball on the ground with their backfield. Eventually the Broncos scored one last time, but it was too little too late, as the Broncos end the game on the short end of a 37-14 score. Dietz-"We knew they weren't going to move the ball on the ground, they just didn't have the backs to do it,,,in order for them to get the win Olsen and Derr had to come up big and they did, it's unfortunate for us, because I think if Taylor didn't get hurt we could of moved the ball through the air on them relatively easy, but that didnt' happen and we were sent for the long ride home, hats off to Joe and Lloyd".
