The MN Thunder Performance Team cheered on the runners and walkers at the 16th annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure at the Mall of America on May 11. It was the first time for the squad to participate in the Mother's Day event, which drew 50,000 participants. Chanting "Who's the cure?...We are!" and "When's the cure?...Starts now!," the cheerleaders hugged breast cancer survivors, showcased some stunts and created raucous welcomes for runners and walkers at the 3K marker of the 5K route. The Performance Team finally put its talents to use when the cheerleaders took the field at St. Paul's Griffen Stadium to cheer on the MN Thunder to a 1-0 win over the Rochester Rhinos during the 2008 game opener. The squad greeted soccer fans in front of the stadium with 3rd Lair's skateboard and BMX riders. Afterwards, they handed out freebies to the first 1,000 of 4,000 fans. During the game, the squad spent time in the stands cheering with the crowds and performed stunts at all four corners of the field. The squad even performed a half-time routine.
