2011 7th and 8th Grader Eligibilty Requirements
Junior Youth Ministry Catechetical Forum
In an effort to have the chidren continue religious formation beyond the structured Parish Religious Education Program for grades 1-6, all Catholic children must continue formal religious education training through the 8th grade in order to be eligible to participate in CYO grade school athletics.
This past year we accomplished this objective through the PREP aide program. The change for the 2011-12 school year for Grades 7 and 8 is given below.
For children who attend PREP, there are two tiers of formation:
-
Grades 1-6: Attendance at weekly PREP classes.
-
Grades 7-8: Attendance at a weekly session of classroom formation for 5 consecutive weeks is required during or before the sports season in which your child participates. The 5-week class must be completed only once during the academic year. The class will be taught by MMR Youth Minister, Rebecca Jervey or other adult volunteers from the parish. The 5 week session will be offered four times during the 2011-12 year. Once during the fall sports season, twice during the winter sports season and once during the spring sports season. Practices and games will be arranged to minimize conflict(s) with the classes. This 5 week classroom session will replace the PREP Aide program from this past academic year.
