MTLL 9/10 team repeats!

Tonight, Mission Trails had to come from behind to beat San Carlos and with the 2008 District 33 9/10 year old All Stars tournament.  MT was behind the whole game, but kept the faith and scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th to win 10-9.  James Burns hit a home run in the 5th to keep us within striking distance, and in the 6th the MT offense finally got rolling.  With the score 9-7, San Carlos turned a double play that looked like might take the wind out of the MT sails.  But the boys, coaches and fans kept the momentum going.  With two outs, runners at 2nd and 3rd, down 9-8, Keenan Toya then came up with the big blow.  His single to center scored the tying run and Manager/3rd base coach Bob Esquerra sent the runner from second also.  A nice relay to the plate, a slide and cloud of dust from the MT runner and the plate umpire throwing out the "safe" sign send the team and fans into a frenzy.  They had just come back and beaten a very tough San Carlos team who was on a 6 game winning streak.

Next up for the team is sectionals.  Sectionals brings 4 district winners together in a double elimination format tournament.  The sectionals will  be played at Clairemont Hilltoppers Little League.  First game is Saturday, July 12th at noon against the winner from District 31.  The team will also play on Sunday, win or lose, with the game time decided by the results of their game on Saturday.  The district 33 website has more information on this level of play and the other little league divisions.  The map to the Clairmont field is Clairemont Hilltopper Field.  The street address is 4280 Avati Drive, San Diego, Ca 92117.

Little League (also known as 11/12 team) : RESULTS (4th place finish)

Game 5 (7/6) : The season ended today for the 11/12 in a great Little League game.  We lost 3-2 to San Carlos in extra innings.  The game was a classic pitchers duel as Steven Christian was dealing vs. a very good pitcher for San Carlos.  The loss ended a great season for the squad and they were basically 4th place in the district.  They had a 3-2 record with a tough loss in their first game and a tough last loss.  Congrats on the team for a great run.

Game 4 (7/5) : The 11/12 squad kept their run going with an 11-0 win over Murphy Canyon.  Connor Kleis, Trey Kell, and Gabe Madrid combined on the shutout.  Next up is San Carlos.  They play on Sunday, 7/6/2008, at 1:00 PM at the Lake Murray (Sunset Park) Majors field.  They are 1 of only 4 teams left in the tournament.

Game 3 (7/3) : Tonight the fans got their monies worth as the game went extra innings.  MT was the home team and had to score in the bottom of the 6th to tie the game.  After Rolando hit a booming home run in the 7th, MT again tied it.  They scored the winning run in the bottom of the 8th.  Next up, they play Murphy Canyon on Saturday, July 5th, at Rolando little league.  The game starts at 2:00 PM.

Game 2 (6/30) : Mission Trails broke open a close game with some clutch hitting.  Tommy Goodridge hit a three run homer, Matt Hull hit a grand slam and Steven Christian hit a towering two run shot.  Connor Kleis pitched all 5 innings in the 14-2 win over North Park.  Next game is on Thursday, 7/3, 5:30 PM at Chollas Lake little league.  They will play the winner of tonight's Kearney Mesa-Rolando game.

Game 1 (6/29) : Mission Trails lost a close first game to La Mesa National by a 5-2 score.  Garrett Jarvis hit a solo home run.  MT now plays on Monday, 6/30, at 5:30 PM at Rolando Little League.  Their opponent will be North Park.

First game is on Sunday, June 29th, 1:00 PM at Lake Murray Little League field (Sunset Park).  Opponent will be the winner of the Tierrasanta/La Mesa National game on June 28th.

10/11 team : RESULTS (3rd place District finish)

Game 5 (July 3rd) : The season ended tonight for the 10/11 team.  They were beaten 9-1 by La Mesa National who handed them their only other loss.  They made a nice run after losing their initial game.  Congratulations to the boys and coaching staff on representing the league well.

Game 4 (July 1st) : After finally getting a day of rest, Mission Trails got back into action tonight.  There were no triple plays or home runs, but they did beat Allied Gardens by an 8-1 score.  Evan Durr pitched 5-2/3 innings and Sean Ybarrondo threw 1 pitch to finish the game.  This win puts MT in the third place game (loser gets third, winner advances to the title game) on Thursday July 3rd.  They will play at 5:30 at Murphy Canyon against the loser of the La Mesa National-Rolando game.

Game 3 (June 29th):  Mission Trails played for the 3rd day in a row.  And speaking of 3, MT turned a triple play that turned out to be a big turning point. Murphy Canyon had scored 5 in the first and had bases loaded with no outs in the second. A fly ball caught in right was then thrown home, the runner on second was well off the bag.  The throw there got the runner, then the guy on third went home.  Throw to the plate was in time for the old 9-2-6-2 triple play.  They beat Murphy Canyon 9-5 to advance.  They now play on Tuesday, July 1st @ Murphy Canyon field.  Their opponent will be Allied Gardens.

Game 2 (June 28th):  Mission Trails won a 3-2 nail-bitter against Tierrasanta.  They next play on Sunday (6/29) at 1:00 pm in another elimination game. They play at San Carlos Little League.

Game 1 (June 27th):  Mission Trails lost a close battle to La Mesa National by a 4-2 score on their home field.  The MT squad's next game will be on Saturday, June 28th at La Mesa National at 2:00 PM.  They will play Tierrasanta.  The loser will be out of the tournament while the winner will play again on Sunday (6/29 - 1:00 PM) at San Carlos.

First game is on Friday, June 27th, 5:30 PM at La Mesa National versus La Mesa National.

9/10 teamRESULTS

Game 5 (July 7th) : Mission Trails lost a 11-5 decision to San Carlos which sets up a winner-take-all final game on Tuesday, July 8th.  Game will be at 5:30 at Serra Mesa field.  Come out and make some noise for MT and lets see if we can bring home the 9/10 banner for the second straight year.

Game 4 (July 5th) :  Mission Trails remained undefeated and moved to the championship game with a tough 4-3 win over Lake Murray.  MT scored the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the 6th.  Kris Aguilar provided strong pitching and a two run home run.  The championship game will be at 5:30 on Monday at Serra Mesa Little League.  If MT wins, they will be district 33 champs, if they lose, they will have to play again on Tuesday in a winner take all match.  The opponent won't be know until after the game on Sunday (which will be played at Mission Trails between San Carlos and Lake Murray).

Game 3 (July 1st) : Mission Trials moved into the winners bracket finals tonight with a win over La Mesa National.  MT will meet Lake Murray at Allied Gardens on Saturday at 2:00 PM.  Winner of this game moves to the finals where they would need to be beaten two straight in order to not win the title.

Game 2 (June 28th):  Mission Trails stayed in the winners bracket with a 13-3 win over San Carlos.  Kris Aguilar and Trevin Esquerra both hit home runs to help power the offense.  Next game is at Allied Gardens (note, this is a change from the original location) on Tuesday (7/1) at 5:30 pm. Their opponent will be La Mesa National.

Game 1 (June 26th):  Mission Trails won their first game 21-0.  Trevin Esquerra hit a home run.  Their next game will be Saturday at 10:00 am at Serra Mesa Little League.  They will be playing San Carlos who beat Tierrasanta 10-9.

First game is at 5:30 PM on Thursday, June 26th vs Murphy Canyon Little League.  This game will be played at the Mission Trails Major field.

Juniors : RESULTS

Game 4 (July 6th) : The season ended today for the Juniors with a loss to North Park.  The team ended up with 3rd place in the district (out of 9 teams).

Game 3 (July 5th) : The MT Juniors ran into a tough Allied Gardens squad and lost a 10-5 decision.  Chris Rosa hit a 3 run home run but it wasn't enough.  They play on Sunday at Serra Mesa Juniors field against North Park.  The winner takes on Allied Gardens for the championship.

Game 2 (July 2nd) :  The Mission Trails Junior All Stars defeated Chollas Lake 9- 4 Wednesday night in the District Tournament.  They jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning.  Tyler Downs and Michael Kolek balanced out the offense on the rest of the day with each hitting a two run homer.  Sean Taylor pitched six crafty innings, and Chris Rosa set the side down in order in the seventh to close it out for the second straight game.  The MT kids play Allied Gardens on Saturday (7/5/2008) at 4:30 in the winners bracket finals at Shira Field.

Game 1: Mission Trails Juniors beat Serra Mesa 9-4.  Corbin Brown pitched 5 innings.  Their next game will be on July 2nd, 5:15 PM at Serra Mesa versus the Chollas Lake Juniors.

A team of 13 and 14 year old former MT players will compete in the Juniors tournament.  Their first game is on Sunday at 4:00 PM versus Serra Mesa at Serra Mesa.  Last year, the Mission Trails team won the district title.

Seniors : RESULTS

Game 2 (July 6th) : The Patriot American team won a 19-6 decision over North Park.  The team will now play Serra Mesa with the winner getting a shot at the Patriot National team.

Game 1 (July 5th) : The Patriot American lost to a very good Patriot National team 4-2.  Their next game will be on Sunday against North Park.

A team of former Mission Trails and Allied Garden kids (15/16 years old) will compete for the Seniors flag as Patriot American.  The first game is on July 5th at 6:00 PM at Murphy Canyon.  They will play a team from San Carlos/Lake Murray (Patriot National).

TOC is Here!

Majors and Minors will began their season ending Tournament of Champions (TOC) on  Tuesday May 27th.  The winner of each tournament will advance to the District 33 TOC tournament.  Last year, the Minors Cubs won the District tournament.  The Mets have wrapped up the #1 seed in Majors, while the Indians will be #2.  Pirates and Padres will be the #3 and #4 seeds.  Standings were kept during the second half of the season for seeding purposed.  The Minors will use a pool play format which will guarantee each team at least 3 games.

Some of the TOC rules are different than regular season.  Games are 6 innings with no time limit (except darkness for the weeknight games).  There will be no run limit per inning in Minors, but there is a 10 run mercy rule after 4 innings.  Thus, if a team is leading by 10 runs or more after 4 or 5 innings, it will be declared over.

Below is the schedule for 2008 MTLL Majors TOC.  Format is double elimination, so you keep playing until you have two loses.  Game 6 is the championship game, but if it is the first loss for the losing team (each team would then have 1 loss), game 7 will be necessary and will be for the title.  The championship team will advance to the District 33 team TOC which begins on Monday, June 9th.
