Little League Registration

FINAL registration.

The 5th and 6th grade basketball tournament is this weekend. We will hold a LAST chance registration this Saturday, Feb 28 from 10:30am to 11:30am at the HIGH SCHOOL.

Registration is open to boys born on or after May 1, 2002 through December 31, 2009 and girls born on or after January 1, 2002 through December 31, 2009 and live in the Minersville Area or attend a Minersville Area public or private school are eligible to sign up for t-ball (age 6), minor league (ages 7 and 8),  major division baseball and softball (ages 9 - 12).   See link in last post or in links page for the Little League Age Determination Date to see what division your child(ren) are eligible to play.

Registration fees are $30.00 for the first child and $20.00 for any additional children residing in the same household. What is required of the parent(s) at sign-up is a photo copy of the child’s birth certificate, medical release form, and 3 proofs of residency / or proof of school attendance for families who reside out of the Minersville Little League jurisdiction but attend Catholic or Private school in Minersville.

Fundraiser - We do conduct a candy bar fundraiser (one box per family) during the season. We understand economic times are difficult and have also learned that many families simply purchase the candy bars themselves. So for the first time parents are being offered a “buyout” opportunity at sign-up time ONLY. To opt out of selling candy bars, an additional $30.00 (per family) would be required at sign-up. Again, this "buyout" opportunity is ONLY available at the time you sign up your child(ren). .... Buyout is no longer available as candy has been ordered.

The New Little League Baseball® Age Determination Date

In April 2014, the International Congress approved the new league age determination amendment for Little League Baseball®. To implement the new amendment, it was decided to include a three-year waiting period to execute the change, starting in 2018. Questions from the field were raised about the impact the change would have on players that were currently league age 8 under the traditional system. Using feedback from Little League® parents through our District Administrators, the Little League International Board of Directors adjusted the April-approved implementation strategy in order to modify the impact on all of our minor and major division players. The adjustment also allows for an easier transition for players in the early years of Little League participation.

As a result of this recent adjustment to the implementation strategy, effective immediately, any player born on or after January 1, 2006 who will turn the ages of 4-9 during the 2015 calendar year will be eligible to participate in a local Little League program and will use the new age determination date of December 31 for the remainder of their Little League Baseball career. Players will still be assigned to a division based on local league divisional structure.

Winter Training

Parents, here's a good opportunity to get your child(ren) some training during the winter.

From Justin Frantz, one of our new board memebrs.

Just wanted to let everyone know - I have a small sports training/clinic business (Next Level Sports Development) and I have just teamed up with the Pottsville Sports Center (new facility in Pottsville - turf area, batting cages, and pitchers mound).  Also, my wife will also be running softball clinics coming up soon.

Up coming events at the Pottsville Sports Center. In January and February I will be conducting (with the help of various coaches, athletes from the area, etc...) a 5 week speed/agility/conditioning class for ages 8-14 (boys and girls). I am also working with some varsity baseball coaches in the area and will be having a 5 week pitching/clinic for ages 8-13. They will all be for 1 hour a week and will cost $11 a session or $50 if paid for all of them up front. The exact dates are not set yet but class sizes will be limited because of space so I wanted to get it out to all of you first to see if anyone was interested.

You can email Justin at jfrantz11@yahoo.com for more information.
