Enjoy Team building experiences while wrestling at 4 dual meet tournaments.
The program is taught by the expert coaching skills of 3 accomplished former State Champions and College Wrestlers from the local community. Head Coach: Josh Wagner (Milton High School / University of Missouri) Asst. Coach: Scott Sigmond (DC Everest High School / UW Whitewater) Asst. Coach: Chad Snell (UW Superior)
Requirements For The Team - Must be a State qualifier that won at least 2 matches in Regionals - Must be in 5th to 8th grade (4th grade if need to fill weight) - Must purchase own USA Wrestling Card - Annual membership fee of $ 250.00
Goal: Create a system that wrestlers can learn, master, and build off of to better their skills while putting them in an intense training environment to accelerate them to the next level.
Technique: It is important to create a system as a foundation that every wrestler can learn. Not every wrestler has the same style, therefore this system allows the wrestler to take it and make it his own. Instead of giving wrestlers a wide variety of moves to learn, I will organize advanced technique to be shown in a way that easily flows, which will make it easier for wrestlers to incorporate the new techniques into there repertoire.
Strengthening: At this age strength can be a huge difference. It would be beneficial to wrestlers to do strengthening exercises each time we practice. The exercises that I have decided to apply to their training are ones that will strengthen muscles that are used in wrestling.
Conditioning: At this age I do not see this as an area that young athletes need to focus on because of their youth. It seems like they could go all day sometimes, but as an accelerated program they will get plenty of conditioning and be in great shape. Also, the best way to be in "great wrestling condition" is to wrestle.
Mentality: Confidence is one of the biggest things in wrestling. Wrestlers will have confidence in their technique, strength, and conditioning, which gives them the mentality they need to win. Wrestling with the right mentality is what makes the sport fun. Win or lose it will be fun to go out on the mat and compete.
Practice: There are many different ways to train and there are times to go hard and times to back off. A lot of things will go into account as I design practices. I look at a wrestling season having three phases: early, middle and late. I am not 100% sure when these phases will be taking place yet, because it depends on how fast the wrestlers pick the technique up. Early in the season it is important we focus more on technique and applying technique during live wrestling. During the middle of the season we will be doing a lot of reviewing and drilling. Later in the season intensity and pace of the practice room will be very high. I will be adding details to the moves that have already been perfected. This will be the most fun part of the season because there will be noticeable differences in each wrestler.
