Millville Cobras - The Beginning
Millville Cobras 2007-2008 Seasons Review
History of the Millville Cobras
It began in the Fall Season of 2006. Four individual coaches from the Millville Soccer Association's Recreation Division (Newell Branin, Marc Daigle, Mark Simpkins and Christa Kruger) began early discussions with each other and players about starting a new travel team for the following Fall season. After coming up with a core number of players, word was advertised that a new travel team would be forming in the Fall of 2007.
Throughout the Fall 2006 and Spring 2007 Seasons, the girls continued to hone their skills on the field. Between seasons, an indoor team was formed for the Winter of 2006/2007. They played under the name Millville Mustangs. It was a good showing and everyone enjoyed the Indoor Soccer experience.
As we moved on to the Spring 2007 Season, it was quickly realized that there would be more than enough interested and qualified players for one team. So, it was decided that there would be two new teams in the Fall of 2007. Another coach was brought in (Dennis Porch) to head the other team.
During the Summer of 2007, the Millville Cobras made their first appearances in the Cohansey Soccer Tournament in June and Pittsgrove Labor Day Tournament in early September (see photos in the Photo Albums section).
In September 2007, the Millville Cobras officially began their season. It was a learning experience for everyone involved, coaches, players and parents alike. Our first roster consisted of: Head Coach Mark Simpkins, Coaches Newell Branin, Christa Kruger and Ed Soto, Players: Alyssa Simpkins, Megan Branin, Caroline Kruger, Alyssa Soto, Loren Beniston, Dayna Myers, Victoria Profit, Katelynn Keen, Brandi VanMeter, Alyssa Wilson, Brooke Shaw, Allison Andres and Lauren Reed. We had a great first season and we were ready for more.
We have added some players from time to time and some have left us to advance their challange and gone on to other teams. But, each of them have been a Millville Cobra! Here is a list of some former coaches and players:
Marc Daigle (Coach), Mark Simpkins (Coach), Ed Soto (Coach), Christa Kruger (Coach), Renee Beniston (Coach), Players: Abby Daigle, Alyssa Simpkins, Alyssa Soto, Lauren Reed, Michele Barrios, Madisyn Pettit, Madison Shelly, Nicolette Bruce, Hannah Derby, Kacie Reynolds, Caroline Kruger, Devyn Ciccio, Macy Taylor, Loren Beniston, Alyssa Wilson and Brittany Feltes.
Current rostered players and coaches can be found on the Roster page.
In the Fall of 2009, The Millville Cobras advanced to the U-11 age group. With that, we not only started playing on a larger field, but we now introduced new positions on the field and expanded our roster.
In the Spring of 2011, The Millville Cobras traveled to Brick Twp, NJ to participate in the Brick Town Memorial Day Tournament. The Cobras played some tough competition that they haven't seen before. But, on the last day of the tournament the Cobras were named Champions of the U-12 Division.
As we continue, we look forward to advancing through the flights in the SJGSL and participating in area and regional tournaments.
We can only look ahead to advance our skills and enjoy the game of soccer!
