We have done something new with regard to jerseys this year.  While 5 & 6 year olds will all receive Patriots jerseys, the players in the 7 & 8 year old and 9 to 10 and 11 to 14 year old groups will wear different NFL team jerseys.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! to the three teams that participated in the North Shore Flag Football tournament on Saturday, June 13th!  All three teams played very hard and did a great job against very tough competition!  Many of the teams they played have been playing together for many years!  Our teams practiced together for four weeks!

Registration tips:

1.  The info we are looking for - age, DOB, jersey size, etc., is for your child.

2.  Your child's eligibility is as of 9/1/09 - their age on that date - per the NFL - copies of birth certificates for participants who have not provided them in the past should be brought to evaluations.

3.  We are unable to honor teammate or coach requests - we will try to place kids from the same town with other kids from that town.

4.  Jersey sizes are youth or adult as specified.  You may want to order a jersey/t-shirt that is slightly larger than you normally would to accommodate a turtleneck or sweatshirt in the cold weather.  Please remember to enter a size that will fit your child.  We are not able to call every participant to check on sizes nor are we able to change sizes once entered.

5.  Please email millisflag@verizon.net with any questions.

Watch this space for more information on Buddy Bowl - "football for charity" - coming to Millis on Saturday, November 14, 2009!  This tournament will give everyone the chance to participate so dust off your playbook, polish your cleats and get in shape!  Adult as well as youth divisions!  Check out the website at http://www.buddybowl.org/

Registration closed on May 31st.  Registration during this period was $50.00 per player.  Registration after May 31st will be $70.00 per player and will ope soon.

Millis Flag Football Travel Program

This program will involve additional costs as well as an additional time and travel commitment.  This program is for experienced players who want to take their game to the next level.  Any player wishing to participate in this program must register for the regular fall program by April 30, 2009.  Tryouts occured in early May of 2009 and the teams have been picked for the first tournament on June 13th.

Here are the details from the email that went out:

Flag Football Registration opens on 4/1/09. Please sign up now to take advantage of the early registration discount. Please go to the web site www.millisflagfootball.org to register.

The following information is about travel and tournament teams:

The Millis Flag Football program has grown significantly since its formation just three years ago. This year, in addition to the traditional flag football program, Millis Flag Football will organize travel teams in 3 age/gender brackets.

Registration for MFF will be between April 1st and May 31st. All who register for MFF will be eligible to participate. The registration fee to participate in the MFFL is $50.00 for all registrants.

Participation in the regular Millis Flag Football League (MFFL) is required of all who want to participate on travel teams. Those interested in participating in the travel teams must register on or before April 30, 2009. The number of participants in the travel program is limited and there will be additional costs. Please email MillisFlag@verizon.net to let us know you want to participate in the travel program. Please use a subject line of "Travel application".

The age/gender brackets are:
9 - 11 Co-ed
12 - 14 Boys
12 - 14 Girls

Millis Travel/Tournament (TTP) Program Summary

The Millis TTP is designed for kids who want to participate in flag football at a slightly more involved and competitive level than the MFFL. The activities planned for the TTP include the following:

4/30/09 Application deadline
5/17/09 Teams selected and notified
5/15/09 - 6/12/09 2 or 3 practices and 1 Local Travel Game*
6/13/09 Tournament
6/15/09 - 8/15/09 Summer break?
9/1/09 - 10/30/09 Practices (2+/-/mo) and Local Travel Games* (2/mo)
October 2009 NFL Regional Flag Tournament***

*Local Travel Games will be played against teams from the surrounding (inside I-495) area if possible. There is no formal Travel Flag Football League in our area at this time, so these games will be arranged informally.

** The local tournament is June 13th. This will be a fun, fast-paced tournament. Teams from as far away as Florida and Ohio have already signed up to participate.

***The NFL Regional Flag Tournament will be held in October/November. The exact time and place are TBD. This is a fun, fast-paced tournament sponsored by the NFL. Teams from the eastern half of the US participate. The winners of the NFL Regional Flag Tournaments advance to play in the NFL Flag National Tournament of Champions at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida. Hotel and airfare for one coach and 10 players are paid by the NFL. This tournament is typically played in November and broadcast on ESPN in January.

If you would like to volunteer to help in any way in 2009 please email the administrator at millisflag@verizon.net.

Please include a subject line of:  Volunteer - Coach or Volunteer - Field management, etc.

We need help with:
Level Coordinators/Evaluators (pre-season, etc.)
Field Coordinators (Game day stuff)
Field Management (lines, etc.)
Merchandise coordinators (sweatshirts, caps, etc.)
Equipment Manager (jerseys, balls, team bags, etc.)
Web site manager (Think you can do better than me?  I do!)

I'm sure we'll come up with some other things!

During the season this space will have game schedules (sample below) and other information.  Our goal is to offer the kids the chance to play one of the most popular games in the world!  Given that opportunity we hope they can learn how to run, throw and catch - and maybe pick up some of the finer points of the game!

Millis Flag Football is an alternative to full-contact 11 on 11 football but it is still competitive and contact does happen if inadvertantly!

In 2009 we will offer the same program we have offered our first three years where everyone gets a chance to play every position and everyone gets a turn to run, throw and catch...  In addition - by participant request - we will have competitive travel teams who will have the opportunity to compete in the regional and national tournaments.  These will be select teams requiring an additional cost (tournament entry, travel & hotel costs) and additional practice and game time commitments.

We welcome your feedback at millisflag@verizon.net

Thanks again for your support of our program!

Here is a sample schedule:

Time

Field 1 Field 2 Field 3
8:30 7 vs 14 8 vs 13 23 vs 28
9:30 2 vs 5 9 vs 12 24 vs 27
10:30 3 vs 4 10 vs 11 25 vs 26
11:30 1 vs 6 15 vs 22 17 vs 20
12:30   16 vs 21

18 vs 19

Games should start promptly on time.  Games will end promptly at :20 past each hour.  Your cooperation keeps our program running on time!

Thank you!

Home team is listed first and will wear white!

Coaches please remember to rotate your players so all players have equal time at all positions.  Practices should be brief, fun and focus on fundamentals - running, throwing and catching!

Thanks again for your support!

Reminder:  All players must wear mouth pieces at all times!
