2003 Sooner Classic Championship
Jenks Maroon 2003 Sooner Classic Champions
Jenks Maroon 18 - Wichita Cowboys 14 - Championship Finals
Sooner Classic
For the second straight year Jenks Maroon won the Union Sooner Classic Championship by defeating the Wichita Cowboys. The Cowboys had only lost two games in four years, those being two being at the hands of Jenks Maroon, both in the finals of the Union Sooner Classic. In this year’s battle, the Cowboys lead the game until thirty-four seconds left in the game when the Maroon line busted a hole for Grant Goodwin to power his way into the end zone for a 12-8 lead. The Cowboys then came back with three powerful runs to score with nine seconds left in the game and the potential 14-12 victory. However, the Maroon Trojans would not be denied and with nine seconds remaining in the game Justin Anderson threw the "Quick Score Special" to Jason Turner and he ran into the end zone as the final seconds clicked off the clock to win the game 18-14. The Maroon Trojans all played a great game and Justin Anderson was named as the Sooner Classic “Most Valuable Player” for the Maroon team. There is no doubt that the Maroon Trojans played one of the most exciting football games in the history of the Sooner Classic and the game will be talked about for years to come. Congratulations to the Maroon Trojan Team for such an outstanding accomplishment.

Carrying corporate sponsorship of Dan White's Snap-on Tools, the Jenks Trojans 2004 Sooner Classic Team was formed with all Jenks players from Jenks Maroon, White, Black and Silver. Team Coaches were Head Coach: Bill Anderson, Assistant Coaches: Kyle Litterell and Curtis Smith. Jenks Maroon 50 - Owasso White 14 - Semi Finals
Sooner Classic
Starting at 10:45 Saturday night and ending in the fog at 12:30 Sunday morning, the Maroon Trojans played long time foe, the Owasso White Rams. Coming off an over powering win against the Wagoner Sooners, the Maroon Trojans were slow to begin and allowed the Rams to take a 14-0 first quarter lead. The Maroon Trojans responded to the Owasso challenge by taking a 16-14 lead into halftime. As the fog rolled into Union Tuttle Stadium, the Trojans came out of their own fog to score 34 second half points to leave no doubt as to was in control of the game and gain their third appearance in the finals of the Sooner Classic. While the Jenks Maroon and Jenks White Trojans had defeated the Rams earlier in the year, the Rams were the only opponent to defeat the Jenks Black Trojans in the regular season. With the opportunity to avenge the Owasso loss and seriously address the post game email smack given to the Jenks Black team by the Rams. The Jenks Black players, along with their fellow Trojans, were more than eager to send a statement to the Rams by ending the game with a couple of exclamation points, thus leaving the Rams literally in the fog.

Jenks Maroon 48 - Wagoner Sooners 0 - Quarter Finals
Sooner Classic
The Jenks Maroon Trojans opened the first round quarter finals of the 2003 Sooner Classic facing two past Jenks foes in Coweta and Wagoner. While the Sooners looked classic and were big, the Maroon Trojans took command of the game in the first quarter and never looked back enroute to a 44-0 victory. Supported by excellent defense, the Trojans scored on the ground, through the air and off Sooner turnovers in a total team victory. The Trojans advanced to the semi finals to face another long time foe in Owasso White in the final game of the evening.

Mighty Maroon 12 - Jenks White LLOD 6 - INFC Finals
Spotlight Award Trophy
It does not get much better than this... Two well deserving, mutually respected JTA 7th grade teams competing for the 7th grade INFC Championship, live Cox television, being broadcast in the Tulsa and Oklahoma City markets. Those watching from Union, Broken Arrow, Owasso, Lawton, Midwest City, Moore, Norman and other organizations can only wish they had such a show of their 7th grade football talent. The meeting of the 2003 Jenks LLOD and the 2003 Jenks Mighty Maroon was nothing new as both teams have developed a healthy and competitive rivalry since the teams originally formed in the 3rd grade. Coaches, players and parents have commented for years how great the boys would be together, once they reached the 8th grade, and Saturday nights INFC Final was a preview of the future. Ultimately at the end of the game, the Mighty Maroon lead the LLOD, 12-6 and gained the 2003 INFC 7th grade title. While the Mighty Maroon had the greater score, there were no losers Saturday night, just a great group of 7th grade Jenks Trojans who are all Jenks champions. Saturday night showed that JTA Football is "Where the legends begin." Congratulations to both the Mighty Maroon and LLOD players, coaching staff and parents for five great years of our own version of King of the Mountain.

Once Gold - Now Totally Maroon
With the collasp of the 6th Grade Gold team coming into the 2003 season, the Mighty Maroon picked up several previous players from that team. Through the draft, Patrick Benson, Burns Getchell and Gannon Brooks were selected to become part of the Mighty Maroon. The heart and dedication of those three players did not go un-noticed throughout the year as each one earned their maroon helmet in becoming a member of the 2003 Mighty Maroon Champion family. There is no doubt that teams that could have selected these three great players, definitely missed their chance. Welcome to the family.

2003 Protect - Emilio Rodriguez
You never know how annual player protects will work out. This year's protects for the Mighty Maroon had mixed results. Unfortunately one of the Mighty Maroon's 2003 protects, elected leave before the fun began and missed one heck of a ride to the top. While learing that Mighty Maroon football is not like private school football, Emilio Rodriguez, the second 2003 protect, became a big part of the Mighty Maroon's success throughout the season. Emilio's dad Mick also played a huge part in the performing the filming duties throughout the year. Thanks to the Rodriguez's for their part in the Mighty Maroon success.

Mighty Maroon 24 - Stillwater 0 - INFC Quarter Finals
Suffering from a Halloween hangover, the Mighty Maroon overcame a horrific 0-0 first half to break away in the second half to defeat a big and tough Stillwater team 24-0 in the first round of the INFC Playoffs. The Mighty Maroon advance to the next round of the INFC Playoffs and will play Jenks Black Tuesday, November 4, 2004, 6:30, Jenks High School.

Mighty Maroon 28 - Jenks Black 8 - INFC Semi-Finals
In a highly anticipated game of two rival Jenks 7th grade teams, the Mighty Maroon defeated Jenks Black 28-8 in the semi-finals of the INFC Playoffs to advance to the INFC Playoff Finals, Saturday night against Jenks White, 8:00, Broken Arrow High School, live on COX Communications Channel 3. The Mighty Maroon scored on it's first possession and held Black to 4 plays and out while gaining a 14-0 halftime lead. Jenks Black scored on a great run by Jordan Towers early in the second half, however his efforts alone could not match the Mighty Maroon's total offensive and defensive team effort. Behind the Mighty Maroon's line, Grant Goodwin scored another two touchdowns to earn a convincing 28-8 victory. While the Maroon vs Black battle was the subject of much talk by some parents throughout the year, the Mighty Maroon left no doubt as to who was the better team of the two. After a 2-8 2002 season, Coach Jones, Coach Lynn, Coach Basden and the rest of the Jenks Black staff are to be commended on leading their team to a much improved 9-2 record for the 2003 season.

Homecoming - Thank You - Lori Morris
From: Mighty Maroon Team Mom, Lee Ray
To: All Members of the MM Seventh Grade(UNDEFEATED)Team

Who could not have noticed the beautiful long stem red roses with greenery and red star ribbon wrapped and secured with a handpainted and individually personalized maroon ornament for each of those pretty Maroon cheerleaders? Thanks go to Lori Morris, mother of Ian, for all her creative and wonderful work!

Also, the roses were from Southern Hills Florist and the lady got them for us at 95 cents a piece. No one was able to beat her price.
She asked me to pass on to everyone at Jenks that I know, that her price on corsages for Homecoming for the older kids is 10 percent off her regular price. Thanks!

Mighty Maroon 40 - Owasso Black 0
The end of 2003 Mighty Maroon's regular season was eventful to say the least. Touchdowns by McCombie, Benson, Hawkins, Ray along with halftime homecoming activities highlighted a wild night of unlimited substitutions resulting in a 40-0 Mighty Maroon victory over the Owasso Black Rams. Undefeated in the preseason, non-division and division games, the Mighty Maroon take their number one seed into the post season tournament. The Mighty Maroon will play a yet to be determined opponent Saturday, Novemeber 1st hopefully at Jenks High School Stadium.

Mighty Maroon - Tulsa Run Results
Mark and Bill Tulsa Run
Coaches Mark & Bill
Coaches Anderson and McCrory competed in the 5k Annual Tulsa Run, while Coach Goodwin and son Grant competed in the 15k run. Coach Anderson's time 30:01, Coach McCrory's time 31:08 and the Goodwin's time being 1:34:00. While Coach McCrory's time was in the top 10 of his age division and quite an accomplishment. Grant Goodwin's Tulsa Run performance was capped by a 5:00 pm, 40-0 performance against the Owasso Black Rams.

Mighty Maroon 50 - Union Crimson 12
Barry Switzer would have been proud as the Mighty Maroon "Hung Half-a-Hundred" on Union Crimson in route to a Division I, 1st place finish. The Mighty Maroon rolled to a team high 50 points for a final score of 50-12. Through the air and on the ground, the Mighty Maroon left no doubt as to outcome of the game. The Mighty Maroon will face the Owasso Black Rams during the Mighty Maroon's Homecoming next Saturday in their regular season finale 5:00, at the Jenks High School Stadium.

The parade is Friday, October 31, and we are doing a combined float with the Maroon Cheerleaders on a trailer over 40 feet long. We will have a chance to paint some posters, etc., for the float at the cookout next Sunday.

One way that everyone is able to help is to bring tropical themed items or decoratons from home to football practice. Lynne Smith will collect them and take them to the cheer moms. The actual float will be assembled closer to the day of the parade.

Mighty Maroon 32 - Sand Springs Gold 0
The Mighty Maroon hosted Sand Springs Gold at JTA Field Saturday night and came away with a 32-0 victory. Under the lights on a damp field, the Mighty Maroon scored on the ground and through the air to acheive the outcome. The third and fourth quarter was highlited with the dedicated running attack of Burns Getchell in search of his first Mighty Maroon touchdown. On a sad note, the game was delayed in the second quarter due to a Sand Springs player injury. Thanks to all those involved for their medical assistance in getting the player proper medical treatment. While able to move all parts of his body, the player was taken to the hospital as a precaution. Best wishes to the player. The Mighty Maroon will face the Union Crimson Redskins next Saturday at Union's Old High School field.

Mighty Maroon 42 - Union Black 6

Using players in variable positions to gain valuable playing experience, the Mighty Maroon never looked back in the second half. Playing out of position, eligible linemen Derek McCrory and Brett Smith scored their first touchdowns of their careers during the contest. To quote a line from the movie Remember the Titans, "Leave no doubt", the Mighty Maroon's performance Saturday night against the Broken Arrow Silver Tigers was so complete the Trojans left no doubt about who was at the top of their game. The Mighty Maroon's 30-6 victory avenged a tough 7-6 overtime loss to the Tigers in last years INFC playoffs. Following a great game plan by the coaches and an excellent week of preparation by the Mighty Maroon as a team, the tone for the game was set at the opening kickoff. Behind the effective blocking of the Mighty Maroon line and backfield along with excellent execution in the running and passing game, the Mighty Maroon opened up a 22-0 halftime lead that could not be overcame by the Tigers. The Mighty Maroon defense also played exceptional and consistently held the well-coached Tiger offense to, four plays and out, allowing the Mighty Maroon offense to continue their run to a 30-6 final score. In the end, the game could have been the last in a respectful Maroon and Silver rivalry that began in the 3rd grade. However, don't count out those Silver Tigers as they Mighty Maroon may well meet them again in the INFC playoffs. The Mighty Maroon returns to play next Saturday again the Owasso Red Rams at 6:00, at the JTA Field.

Mighty Maroon 30 - Owasso White 8
Sporting their new white travel jerseys, the Mighty Maroon truly were the visitors at Owasso's Ator Field to face the Owasso White Rams. Following an 8-8 tied score at halftime the Mighty Maroon scored three unanswered touchdowns to break away from a tough Ram team for a 30-8 victory. The Mighty Maroon offense scored on the ground and through the air and held the White Rams to one very questionable touchdown reception for the their only score of the afternoon. The Rams provided the Mighty Maroon a great challenge in preparation for the upcoming Division 1 showdown with the #1 seeded Broken Arrow Silver Tigers next Saturday evening at Kirkland Field in Broken Arrow.

The Mighty Maroon played the Broken Arrow Black Tigers Sunday afternoon following the cancelation of their Saturday evening game due to a thunderstorm. Despite the hot condititions for the 3:00 kickoff, the Mighty Maroon charged to a 30-0 halftime lead and ended the day with a 38-0 win over the Tigers. On the ground and through the air the Mighty Maroon scored using a multitude of offensive combinations including Alex Hard's first ever rushing touchdown of his Mighty Maroon career. The Mighty Maroon defenses played well throughout the contest and shut out the Tigers using both it's Maroon and White defensive teams. The Mighty Maroon will not be participating in their annual Kansas City Tournament this year and will instead take off Labor Day weekend away from football before preparing for their next game with the White Owasso Rams.

Mighty Maroon Helmets - 2003
Similar to the star on the Dallas Cowboys helmets, you don't really become a Mighty Maroon Trojan until you get the maroon helmet. The helmets for the new additions to the Mighty Maroon and a few new helmets will be painted this weekend by Nathan Mangrum's Dad, Kenneth. As a professional automotive painter, Kenneth volunteered his services and is much appreciated. The helmets were stripped and prepped Frinday night and are ready for being transformed into Mighty Maroon helmets. In case you were wondering, the total wholesale cost of the custom mixed Mighty Maroon metallic pearl paint is in excess of $175 per gallon. Thanks Kenneth!

A line of severe thunderstorms shortened the first week of 2003 Mighty Maroon practices. However, after only five hours of practice, the Mighty Maroon lined up for their first scrimmage with their fellow Silver Trojans Thursday evening. With both teams playing a mixture of old and new players it was clear the Trojans were ready to hit someone other than their fellow team players. Returning players remembered their roles well, while the new players learned they still have alot to learn about the Mighty Maroon program. The Silver Trojans, lead by Coach Wilkins, look to be a much improved team from last year with the addition of some great talent and will be another great 7th grade Jenks team. The first week of practice will conclude Friday evening with only four more practices until the INFC preseason scrimmages next weekend. Thanks to Lisa Smith, Gannon Brooks'mother for the great Mighty Maroon pictures.

Following the Draft Sunday, each 7th grade team (Maroon, White, Silver and Black), has 23 players. The Mighty Maroon picked up 7 new players for the season who are:

Bellatti, Nick - 2002 - Played at Metro Christian
Benson, Patrick - 2002 - Played for Gold
Brooks, Gannon - 2002 - Played for Gold
Fanning, Corey - 2002 - Played for Jenks Road Christian School
Getchell, Burns - 2002 - Played for Gold
Mangrum, Nathan - New
Rodriguez, Emilo - 2002 - Played for Victory Christian

Our practice field is the first field immediately inside the East gate at the JTA Field. Parents are requested to sit either against the end zone fence or along the East fence. Understanding that as a team, many of us have been together for years and are very comfortable talking together.   Please take the time to introduce yourself to the new parents and make them feel at home with the Mighty Maroon.

With 7 Mighty Maroon Coaches on the field, it is important that your remember the team rule "Parents remain on the sidelines at all times." If there is something you need your son for, please contact a coach. If there is something you need to discuss with a coach, please do so on the sidelines or after or before practice, not on the field.

It is going to be hot. We will water the boys frequently. This means we will go through water like crazy. Parents please help monitor the level of water in the coolers and bottles. If needed fill them up. If we are running out of ice water, go get some.
See you Monday evening!

Mighty Maroon 6 - Broken Arrow 7 in Overtime
The Mighty Maroon's 2002 INFC season came to an end Saturday night on a sloppy Kirkland field losing to the Broken Arrow Silver Tigers 6-7 in overtime. The Mighty Maroon had a great season overall and look forward to another great season next year. Thanks to all the parents, relatives and fans for their support throughout the season.

Mighty Maroon 26 - Coweta Black 0
On a cool and sunny Saturday afternoon the Mighty Maroon faced off with the Coweta Black Tigers to determine the winner of Division V. The Mighty Maroon capitalized on several Coweta turnovers and dominated both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball with a 26-0 defeat of the Tigers. The Mighty Maroon now enters the INFC playoffs as the Division V Champions and will most likely face off with the Broken Arrow Silver Tigers next Saturday at Broken Arrow Stadium.

Justin Cupp - Mighty Maroon's Rudy
You had to be there, not only to see it, but to believe it. The Mighty Maroon "Team" worked together to get first year player, Justin Cupp, in the end zone for his first career touchdown. Repeated scoring efforts by the Mighty Maroon were aborted just before the goal line by the Mighty Maroon offense as an attempt to get Justin his run into the end zone. After three aborted scoring runs and eleven plays, with the Mighty Maroon Cheerleaders chanting Cupp, Cupp, Cupp and the theme song from the motion picture "Rudy" playing over the PA system, Justin made his way into the north end zone of Jenks' Hunter Dwelly Stadium. With cheers from the fans coming after the score, Justin emerged from the pile and was lifted into the air by Bo Brown and congratuled by all the Mighty Maroon. After reviewing the tape, it was a site to see. Special "Thanks" goes out to the Bartlesville Bruin coaching staff and the INFC referees for their understanding in the Mighty Maroon's attempts at getting Justin into the end zone. Congratulations Justin and the Mighty Maroon Team.

Mighty Maroon 34 - Bartlesville 6
On a cool, rainy and damp Fall Saturday evening at Jenks' Hunter Dwelly Stadium, the Mighty Maroon improved upon its' undefeated Division V season by defeating the Bartlesville Bruins 34-6. Playing without several key players and with new alignments, the Mighty Maroon scored at will enroute to the victory. Highlites of the evening included the score by first year player Justin Cupp. Behind overwhelming team support and individual sacrifice, the Mighty Maroon were able to get Justin his first tackle football touchdown of his young playing career. Playing a Heinz 57 defense the Bruins star offensive running back #30 broke numerous tackles for their one and only score of the evening. The Mighty Maroon will be in action next Saturday, at 4:30, on the JTA Parkwest Field to face the Coweta Tigers in a battle for the Division title.

Both Bob and Coach Graham have inherited many of the Master Graham's traits and are proud of it! I bet this will be his first Happy Birthday Card out for the World to see. On a cold and windy Saturday night at Union Tuttle Stadium, the Mighty Maroon defeated the Union Red Redskins 20-0. Cold north winds gusting to 30 miles per hour made passing next to impossible and the cold temperatures gave the players on both teams a sample of weeks to come. Despite the conditions and several turnovers the Mighty Maroon controlled the game and prevailed convincingly. The Mighty Maroon executed their modified game plan and played poised throughout the night containing the Redskin's speed, passing attack and nuetralizing their size. A special thanks goes out to the Union Red parents and coaching staff for adding a little pre-game humor before the game by having their players walk on a "Welcome to Jenks" door mat as the Redskins were being weighed, it was great. However, based on the Union Red coaching staff's comments after the game, I believe it would be fair to say that the Mighty Maroon wore out its' "Welcome to Union Tuttle" Saturday night. The Mighty Maroon win was a total team win with great play from both the offense and defense. Utilizing a 57 mix of players in the second half on both sides of the ball, the Trojans played well and set up scoring opportunities for several players, playing totally out of their positions. The Rams were well coached, prepared, played hard with emotion but just could not contain the Mighty Maroon. Talk about a show, the Mighty Maroon Cheerleaders put on an impressive half-time cheer for the team and the crowd and followed up with a "suitable for framing" picture of the football team and cheerleaders. Thanks to all the parents of the football team and cheerleaders who were responsible for the purchase of the gifts, coordination of activities and decoration of the home doors of each boy. A special thanks goes out also to all the football and cheer parents who were so cooperative in taking pictures during halftime.

The scoreboard maybe the ultimate judge, however both teams know that the Mighty Maroon dominated both sides of the ball the entire game. Following two spectacular pass receptions, Owasso scored two touchdowns and one extra point good enough to defeat the Mighty Maroon. In game # 2, the Mighty Maroon and Union Crimson began with an interesting twist. Who played on what team? Thanks to the generosity of our Union Silver coaching staff friends, they provided blue target jerseys for the game. Touchdowns from, Goodwin, Tyndal,Dooley/Johnston, PATs by Ray and a last play of the game interception and TD return by Morris, the Mighty Maroon completed the battle of Maroon vs Crimson, 29-0. Highlights of game #2 included Johnston's stretch catch from Dooley, D-line forced interception/return by Morris for 90 yards and Ray's PATs. In both games, the support cast of the entire Mighty Maroon offense/defense, first/second teams, great throws from Anderson/Dooley, Big Ole Boy front lines and awesome end and backer play made for a very memorable day. Not a bad performance for just seven practices.

Help
As you know, the Mighty Maroon will be changing practice locations this year, back to the JTA practice fields at the Jenks Park West. If everyone remembers the dust bowl days as 3rd graders, I am sure you will be more than willing to help water and mow the Mighty Maroon practice field area during the summer. Thanks to JTA Vice President, Danny Jones, the grass is in much better condition due to extra fertilizer and attention he has given the fields over the past two years. The plan is that the individual practice fields will have the yard lines cut. Any extra attention we can give the fields will make it much better for the boys throughout the year. The question now is.... We have the field, will you come to help?

Two Great Teams With Mutual Respect Meet Saturday
Hands clapping
The INFC Playoff Game between the Mighty Maroon and Jenks White has all the billing and hype of a OU vs Nebraska game. Over the past years, the players and coaching staffs of these two great Jenks teams have developed a very respectful relationship. Make no doubt that these two teams have a long standing history of being competitive when they line up against each other throughout the season, Saturday's game will be no different. Just like OU vs Nebraska, everybody has their own thoughts about the game, it's players and it's coaches. Those same people must remember, it is the coaches who develop the game plan and the boys who implement that game plan, not the media, not the arm chair quarterbacks, not the cheerleaders and not the parents. When the game is over and the final score is in the history books, the competitive spirit and mutual respect between the Mighty Maroon and the Jenks White teams and coaching staffs will continue. Good luck to both teams Saturday.

3rd Year in a Row - Mighty Maroon vs Jenks White in Playoffs
It would be an odds maker's nightmare, however for the third year in a row, the Mighty Maroon will face the fellow JTA competitors, Jenks White in the 1st round of the INFC post season playoffs. Of the five 5th grade divisions, two #1 teams would have to face each other in the 1st round and it turned out to be our two teams. To answer everyone's question, yes it was all above the table as both the Jenks White coach and Coach Anderson drew from the hat and read the results, unbelievable. The game will be held Saturday, November 3rd at the Jenks High School's Hunter Dwelley Stadium at a yet to be determined time. The Mighty Maroon will be the home team for the game and will be dressed in maroon and the white team will be able to use their road white jerseys. There are some happy INFC competitors following the playoff bracketing, as they know the Maroon and White teams are two of the best teams in the INFC 5th grade. However, they also know that whoever wins, the championship will go through a Jenks team, Maroon or White. Good luck to both teams.

Followed by a kickoff return for a touchdown, the Tigers made great offensive adjustments and demonstrated impressive spirit during the final period to make the game close. For the third year in a row, the Mighty Maroon have defeated the Tigers after fierce battles with Sisco, Dirteater, Cody "Chop" Chance, A.J. Brown and the Coweta Coaching Staff. Following an exciting road trip last weekend to Kansas City, the Mighty Maroon visited the Broken Arrow Gold Tigers and left with a decisive 13-0 victory. The Mighty Maroon was dominate defensively not allowing the Tigers a first down the entire game. If not for numerous penalties against the Mighty Maroon, the game would have had an even more decisive outcome. Look for additional information on the game after the game tapes are reviewed. The Mighty Maroon's next game will be at the Jenks High School Stadium next Saturday against the Glenpool Warriors at 3:00.

Mighty Maroon Have a Great Kansas City Experience
KC Tourny Cowboys
The Mighty Maroon Trojans returned home from their Kansas City Labor Day Weekend Football Tournament victorious and ready for the regular JTA season. Facing larger Kansas and Missouri opponents, the Mighty Maroon defeated the Blue Springs Missouri Wildcats in a 8-0 thrilling opening game. Facing a big defensive line that included a monster 155 plus pound linebacker, the Trojans found the running the ball difficult. Despite a casted left hand, Justin Anderson was able to complete several passes during the game to losen up the defense. However, it was the play of a fierce Mighty Maroon defense that ultimately held the Wildcats deep in their own territory allowing a the game winning touchdown run by Trent Tyndall and extra point by Austin Laskey. According to the Wildcat's Coach, the Wildcats had not been scored upon in the last two years.

In the semi-final game against the Wichita Cowboys on a cool and damp field, the Mighty Maroon experienced three turnovers in the opening three series and ran only five offensive plays in the first half. Trailing 14-0 after the first quarter, the Mighty Maroon defense once again held a much bigger and faster offense to no points for the rest of the game. The Cowboy's offensive and defensive line and linebackers included several players ranging from 170 to 190 pound range. The Mighty Maroon touchdown was scored by Justin Smith in the 4th quarter resulting in a 14-7 final score. According to the Cowboy's Coach, prior to the Mighty Maroon's touchdown, their team had only had 12 points scored on them in the past two years.

While the Mighty Maroon would have liked to have brought back a tournament championship, the Trojans and their parents had a great time in Kansas City. In addition to playing some great football, the experience of going out of town together, traveling together, eating together, partying together and playing together along with a visit to Worlds of Fun among other things, the Mighty Maroon family left Kansas City with many great memories. Look for more pictures of Kansas City in the photo album to be coming soon.

Thank You - Parents and Family Members
KC Tourny Fans

A special "Thank You" to all the parents and family that attended the Kansas City Tournament. Understanding the time and financial commitment that it takes to attend such an event, the least that can be said is "Thank You". The same "Thank You" goes out to the brothers and sisters too for coming along. Looking at the activities over the weekend, it appears that everyone had a great time. From the caravan to KC, the rest stops, the hotel (Thanks Curtis Smith), the meals, the pool activities, the musical room visits, the OU watch party in the Ray's room, the interaction with the Maroon 6th graders, the after hours socializing in the lobby, the "Cowboy Punch", the pizza, the laughs, the games, the screaming, the yelling, the signs, the pom poms, the heckling, the encouragment, the shopping, the Crispy Cream doughnuts, the World's of Fun visit, etc.. but most of all... being part of the Mighty Maroon family. Memories... yep there are plenty of them, just ask someone who was there. And oh... As Art discovered, the regular season does start this weekend against Broken Arrow Gold at Broken Arrow.

What if - The Mighty Maroon were really healthy?
Heart Pumping
What if the Mighty Maroon were really healthy? Considering the injuries and illnesses we have had this year as a team, the Mighty Maroon could easily be considered a mobile MASH unit rather than a football team. With Anderson's broken hand, Bo's broken arm, Laskey's twisted knee, DJ's gimped knee, Nathans' foot, Taylor's migranes, Stephen's head injuries, Dylan's concussion and along with the numerous bumps and bruises, the Mighty Maroon have preformed extremely well. Going into the KC tournament, the Mighty Maroon knew it did not have all it's weapons available to use, however the performance they gave in Kansas City showed a huge amount of heart and character... Way to go guys! Special recognition goes out to Bo Brown and his family for traveling to Kansas City only one day after Bo broke both the bones in his left arm during Thursday night's scrimmage with Bixby Blue. By all observations, it appears that Bo and his family had a great time in Kansas City. Nothing like a good time to ease the pain. Thanks for coming!

Union Silver - Trent
After four weeks of practices and scrimmages, the Jenks Mighty Maroon Trojans started the regular season by defeating the Union Silver Redskins, on a hot Saturday afternoon at the JTA Jenks Park West field by a score of 25 to 6. After ending the first half 0-0, the Mighty Maroon scored 25 points with touchdowns coming from Austin Laskey, Trent Tyndall, Parker Dooly and Taylor Coman. With good line protection by the Mighty Maroon Big Ole Boys, Justin Anderson protected his injured hand and lead the team throughout the entire game which included one touchdown pass. The Redskins only touchdown came on a long end sweep that was shut down for loss until the Mighty Maroon defense failed to properly wrap up their tackle. The Mighty Maroon's next INFC foe will be the Broken Arrow Gold Tigers who defeated the Boys Club White in their first season game. Note: Best wishes to Blaine Taylor, Union Silver running back who severely broke his arm on the second play of the game while being tackled.

Might Maroon Finish Week #4 of Practice
The Mighty Maroon completed their 4th week of practice by participating in an Owasso Ram sponsored round robin scrimmage at Owasso's Ator field and post scrimmage pool party at the McCombies. The Mighty Maroon inserted many new defense and offense schemes utilizing all the Mighty Maroon in different roles. The most significant accomplishments of the week were the return of Austin Laskey from a pre-season injury and the play of Justin Anderson utilizing his freshly installed hand cast as a result of Tuesday's JTA scrimmages. With some fine tuning next week, the Mighty Maroon should be ready for the season's first game with the Union Silver Redskins next Saturday at the JTA Field(Park West).

The Mighty Maroon ended it's second week of practice Saturday afternoon by participating in the JTA Preseason Scrimmages. The Mighty Maroon alternated 15 minute offensive and defensive series with Inola, Owasso, Union, Boys Club and Bixby clubs throughout the hot afternoon.

The second week of practice was challenging due to several minor injuries, illness and vacation absences. The Mighty Maroon continued to improve upon their skills and conditioning and showed their strength in the final moments of their four hour test in the HOT Saturday afternoon sun. Several Trojans stepped up their performance during week two showing their previously undemonstrated talents which were welcomed surprises to the coaching staff. Overall, while showing signs of both greatness and needed improvement during the scrimmages, continued emphasis on offensive and defensive techniques and execution will be the theme for week three. The Mighty Maroon will be facing the other Jenks 5th grade teams in a set of scrimmages, on the turf of the Jenks High School Stadium, Wednesday evening.

Alex Hard, Nathan Gallup, Chris Ray, DJ Lyles, Justin Anderson and Eric Graham attended the OU Football Camp this summer. Three days of practice and two nights in the OU dormatory proved to be an memorable experience for the Mighty Maroon Trojans. While each camper participated in the round robin touch football tournament, it was the Mighty Maroon's own quarterback, Justin Anderson who lead his team to the overall camp tournament championship. Attending camp following OU's national championship should be a life long memory for the boys.
