Midwest Penguins: History

In 1997, Janice Siebert and Anne Slattery combined their prior year’s club coaching experiences to create a new and exciting club. Each having managed a different business in the Milwaukee community, they felt they could offer a well organized, moderately priced, competitive volleyball program.  The club name was derived from the fact that both Janice and Anne have admired penguins for many years, and we are located in the Midwest of the United States.  Surprise…the Midwest Penguins Volleyball Club was created!

Our first season, 1997-1998, consisted of 4 teams, 40 athletes, and 4 coaches.   As we have expanded, we have found a great balance in staff, athletes, and communication within the organization and the external community.  Over the years, we have certified numerous coaches through USA Volleyball’s education program in both CAP I and CAP II.  In addition, in 2004 Anne and Janice became IMPACT certified clinicians through USA Volleyball.  With the cooperation of our dedicated training staff, we have been able to expand our club to more than 190 athletes and provide competitive teams each year.  As we look ahead to the upcoming season, the Penguins are excited to be able to provide a competitive organization, family atmosphere, and environment for athletes and coaches to develop volleyball skills and life skills. Several of our past athletes have continued to the collegiate level.  In addition, many of our past athletes are now coaching volleyball in club, high school, and other arenas.  This is quite a testament to their love for the game!  We are pleased to have been a part of their success!

Thank you for taking the time to introduce yourself to our club.   Good luck in your tryout and in the next club season!
