Midway Little League: Welcome
All-star tournament season begins at the end of June. Keep watching this page and My Site News for more details. Midway will once again be co-hosting the 9yo tournament with Capitol. We've also learned that we will be hosting the Major All-Star Championship Game on July 19 (and if necessary game on July 21).
Delaware High School All-State teams have been announced. Two Midway alumni were named. Mike Donaldson, AI DuPont Jr. DH was named to 2nd team. Anthony Coburn, Salesianum Sr. 3B was honorable mention. All-conference teams should be announced soon - several more Midway alumni (and current players) likely to be named.
At the Memorial Day break, the Major Orioles have a 3-game lead over the Phillies with 5 games to play, In the Minors, the race is much closer as everyone plays everyone one more time(plus a suspended Indians-A's game). The Indians have a slight lead, but many teams are close behind. Juniors and Seniors have 2/3 of their games in June, so too early to predict those races.
Pitch, Hit, & Run contest was held on Saturday, May 5. 9 boys and 4 girls qualified for the next level of competition to be held at Frawley Stadium. For a complete list of all the winners, go to My Site News.
At the Opening Day Ceremonies, the Major Field was named Jack Agnew Field. Jack was honored for his 50 years coaching baseball in Delaware, including the last 41 years in Midway. State Rep. Mike Ramone read proclamations from the State House and Senate. Dallas Green, manager of the world champion 1980 Phillies, came to recognize Jack and throw out the first pitch. Many other former Oriole players also attended to honor Jack. County councilman Tim Sheldon presented the league with a $1000 grant from the county towards the new lights. The Ford Fiesta being raffled off was parked in CF.
