Heart Guards for Baseball

Safety is and always has been a concern of Midtown Little League, and as concerned parents we want to implement and endorse the safest initiatives to protect our players and volunteers in and around the complex.

This year we want to encourage everyone to research and consider using Heart-Guard protective equipment for your little leaguer. There are many brands but we want everyone to choose the one most comfortable and appropriate.

Basically these compression resistance - impact absorbtion equipment is worn to dissipate the unexpected blow to the chest or heart area.

This can be a specifically design shirt or additional protective padding worn underneath team jerseys to absorbs energy and forces it away from a players heart.  There are incidental risks and dangers to the game of baseball or softball, including specifically (but not limited to) the danger of being injured by thrown balls, batted balls or other objects.

Although not mandatory, players are encouraged to consider and wear addtional protective equipment.  No protective equipment can make the game entirely safe or free from injury, but additional equipment can lessen the risks for injury.

Mandatory Coach’s Meeting

Midtown Little League will be having two Coaches Meetings.
It is critical and mandatory to attend one of these sessions.

A meeting will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 6:00 pm. Also a second on February 18, 2012 at 12:00 pm. for everyone's convenience.

All coaches, board members and volunteers are encouraged to attend.

We’ll hand out some basic coaching guidelines and required volunteer forms as well as timelines for coaches.

We will also have sign-up sheets to reserve fields for practices, and a Q&A session.

We need a clear idea at what level coaches will be coaching, who will be “heads” vs “assistants” — so if you cannot make it, Please make sure who you are coaching with, can attend and grab a team.  Maximum participation is expected.

This meeting officially kicks-off the 2012 season. If you cannot make one of these sessions, please let me know.

Any questions, call me Herby Avellán 347-723-7881 or email me at avellan33@yahoo.com.
