The Midstate Ballerz Basketball Club is an organization put together to provide youths of Tennessee, Alabama, and Kentucky the opportunity to use their ability to play basketball to further their education at the collegiate level by providing the exposure to College Coaches in order to earn a full athletic scholarship. The Ballerz program is a travel basketball club that allows kids not only to enhance their basketball skills, but provides life skills and experiences that helps a kid learn to make intelligent decisions, and to keep priorities in line, in goal of a successful life.

After a rough start at the Hoosier Shootout, the Ballerz ended the weekend 5-2, taking home the Bronze Championship, defeating Tennessee rivals such as TN Chosen Few, TN Tigers, and TN Travelers 82-63 in the championship game. Caleb Chowbay becomes the first of soon to be many Ballerz of 2012 to committ to a school. The 6-2 combo guard has played a key role in the success for the Ballerz East squad and has chose Division 1 Belmont University as his school of choice. Robert Veal has recently signed with Sewanee and will be playing for Bubba Smith. Veal was a monster on the boards and showed a nice outside stroke for the Ballerz 17U during the summer of 2010. Veal also was the all-time leading rebounder at Ravenwood and led them to the Region Semis this past year. Robert's signing makes him the 4th Baller from the 2011 class to sign so far. The Ballerz East came on strong and finished 2nd in the AAU Junior Boys State Championship. They went 4-1 going undefeated in pool play beating Tennessee Tigers, Memphis Hawgs, and rival Team Nashville. The Ballerz East then took down the Memphis Stars in the semis before falling to #3 nationally ranked Memphis YOMCA 69-63. Keep working hard and doing work in the AAU circuit guys. Congrats to Baller Alumn Oscar Butler (Siegel) for signing a scholarship to play basketball for the Maryville College Scots. The 6'4 Butler was a 3pt threat and leader over the 2010 summer for the Ballerz 17U team. He also lead his Siegel Stars to a State Semifinals appearance this past basketball season. Congratulations Oscar, keep working hard and keep making us proud.
Monday, May 9
Midstate Ballerz 17U East went to compete in the AAU Substate at Maryville College. The Ballerz went 4-1 placing 3rd. After a tough 100-99 OT loss to the 15 man roster of TN Chosen Few in the semifinals, the 8 man roster of the Ballerz East rallied together and defeated the TN Conteders in the consolation game. Over the weekend 5 Ballerz averaged double figures with Aaron Wheeler(Morristown East) leading the way with 14ppg, Dee Oldham(Wilson Central) with 13ppg, Jeff Long(Hendersonville) with 12ppg, Cody Malicoat(Jellico) with 10ppg, and newcomer Matt Shown(Alcoa) with 10ppg. The Ballerz East current record is 22-4. Congratulations to the Ballerz East and keep working hard.

Congratulations to senior Jacob Lloyd (Westview) and junior Rafael Tyler (Lake Co.) for recieving TSWA All-State awards. Jacob Lloyd also recieved a scholarship to Jackson State one of the top JUCO's in Tennessee. Congratulations to Jacob and Rafael and continue to make the Ballerz organization proud!

After going undefeated in pool play, the Ballerz East pulled off a 82-80 win against #10 Nationally Ranked Compton Magic. Rafael Tyler lead the way with 18, Aaron Wheeler had 16 matching up with the #2 player in the nation 6-11 Isaiah Austin, Caleb Chowbay shot lights out contributing 15, Cedarius Taylor ran the show and put up all of his 13 in the 2nd half, Dee Oldham was automatic from mid range chipping in 12, and Cody Malicoat was a beast down low on the boards and had the outside stroke adding 8. The first tournament is always one filled with different emotions, mixtures of excitement, nervousness, and anxiousness tend to overwhelm teams to start the season. Well the 17s East team was able to control those emotions and bring home the 2011 Hoops Classic title this past weekend in Murfreesboro, TN. Led by the balanced attack of the run and gun style of Rafael Tyler 11 ppg, Aaron Wheeler 11 ppg, Jeff Long 9 ppg, and Taj Abdul-Kaudeyr 9ppg the Ballerz were unmatched going 6-0 for the tournament. Dee Oldham and Ced Taylor were very instrumental in wrecking havoc on the defensive end all weekend. Shout out to 17s East and Coach Boone on a great start!

Ryan Yeates (Class 2011) and Matt Smith (2012) stepped up when there team needed them most and carried their team to a Class AA state championship. Rafael Tyler (Class 2012) had one misson all week, win state. He did more than that, Tyler's team left the 'Boro with the gold ball and he left with State tournament MVP. Tyler finished the 3-game run with a 21 ppg avg. Fellow ballerz Devon Jones (Class 2013) and Zay Coleman (Class 2014) were also instrumental in helping Lake Co. bring home gold!

Kentucky's state championships are different than TN, where they have no classifications and the top 16 teams advance to be crowned to narrow it down to one "Head of the State". James White (Class 2013) and his Christian Co. team ran the table and won a double OT thriller on a buzzer beater to claim the title!!

Congratulations to all of our Ballerz that have helped carry their respective teams to the TSSAA State Tournament. Matt Smith (2012) and Ryan Yeates (2011) helped a strong Liberty Tech squad to a consecutive run at a state title. Oscar Butler (2011), Robert Brandon (2013), and Damien Clark (2013) all played a valuble roll in bringing Siegel back to the promise land the second year in a row. Lastly Rafael Tyler (2012) lead a tough Lake Co. team to the tournament in the Boro. Good luck to you all!

Ballerz Dee Oldham, Caleb Chowbay, Nilan Hodge, Jacob Lloyd, and Cody Malicoat filled the scoring books over the district tournaments. Dee Oldham (2012) of Wilson Central scored 29 pts in a win over Gallatin and 32 in a heated battle against Hendersonville. Caleb Chowbay (2012) of Mt. Juliet gave buckets to Beech scoring 28. Nilan Hodge (2012) of USN fired in 28 pts in a win against Mt. Juliet Christian. Jacob Lloyd (2011) of Westview torched Dyersburg and went for 34. New Baller Cody Malicoat (2012) of Jellico gave Wartburg Central fits scoring 27 in a win.

Ballerz Caleb Chowbay (2012) and Nilan Hodge (2012) lit up the box scores and are among the state scoring leaders for the week of Jan. 10. Caleb Chowbay (Mt. Juliet) torched Lebanon with 29 and Nilan Hodge (USN) continued his way later that week with 27 against Zion Christian.

Ballerz Jacob Lloyd (2011), Rafael Tyler (2012), and Aaron Wheeler (2012) are among the top scoring leaders in the state for the week of Jan. 2nd. Jacob Lloyd (Westview) dropped 26 against an aggressive Covington team. Rafael Tyler (Lake Co.) nailed 25 against Perry County. Aaron Wheeler (Morristown East) put down 26 in a close win over Cocke County.

You read the title correct!! MidState Baller, class of 2011, Jacob Lloyd scored an amazing 52 points in his teams win vs. Haywood Co. Not only did he score 52, and lead his team to victory he was PERFECT from the floor, not missing a shot from any spot on the floor. Jacob and his Westview HS team are 11-0 on the season.

This past summer's Ballerz players began their high school season on Tuesday and started with a bang. Nilan Hodge lead his USN squad with 22 points in a 57-39 win over Nashville Christian. Caleb Chowbay scored 5 points in OT and finished with 12 to lift Mt. Juliet over LaVergne 54-49. Cham Quao blew up with 26 points to push Webb School past Middle Tn Christian School 58-45. Out in East Tn Aaron Wheeler and Antonio Miranda made a valiant effort for Morristown East against Beardan. Wheeler finished with 17 points.

With all the action over the Memorial Day holiday it was impossible for us to retrieve everything so we saved some for later...and later is now.
The scene Birmingham, the event the Future 150 Memorial Day Classic, the team the Mid-State Ballerz, the results, very good.
The Mid-State 16's could have put their respective heads down after two close losses in pool play but they did not and despite playing shorthanded with only six players they rallied and rallied finally winning the Silver Bracket of the event with a four overtime instant classic against the Birmingham Ice.
Dee Oldham (Wilson Central) led the Ballerz in scoring, averaging around 15 per game for the tourney. He was followed closely by Caleb Chowbay (Mt. Juliet) and Daniel Cartwright (Sequatchie County) who clocked in at 14 per game. Chase Winslow (USJ) added 12 points per game for the young Ballerz.
Antonio Miranda (Morristown East) and Raj Bal (Centennial) showed out big on the glass and inside for the Ballerz.
Down in 17 and under land, the Ballerz defeated the Tulsa Ballerz and the Alabama Thunder in pool play before falling to the powerful MBA Elite and grabbing the second spot. Advancing to the Gold bracket the Ballerz, snatch two victories including a big come from behind, down by 20, victory before falling to the Georgia Impact.
Jacob Lloyd (Westview) shot lights out all weekend while Jeff Graham (Hamilton) finished the weekend averaging around 12 points per game. E.J. Miller (USJ) was lauded for his shooting and ability to control the tempo for the Ballerz.
A trio of new additions helped push the Ballerz into the later stages of the event including Ricardo Martin (South Carolina), Earnest Graham (Mississippi) and Daquarius Mallard (Mississippi).
