Summer Softball '09
This page was last updated on Thursday at 10:30 AM
During the registration process a couple teams indicated they were opting out of the All Star Games...The paper that I recorded that information on is long gone. Could I ask those teams and any other team that is planning to opt out let me know asap (before the July 15th deadline). The schedule of games for All Star Day (Aug 1) will be posted shortly.
Teams may reschedule rained out games up to and including Thursday, August 13th.
Be sure to always carry an umbrella sunscreen at your summer softball game.
A few girls looking to play softball this summer have posted notes in the Guestbook section of the website.
The list of umpire assigners is posted in the Handouts section.
Be sure you are going by a schedule dated after 6/21. Changes have been made to games involving some Methuen teams since then and also some locations for Cambridge 14A games have changed.
TRAVEL ADVISORY:- For teams playing in Tewksbury, who travel Rt93 to Dascomb Rd... Due to road construction, you'll have to turn left on Shawsheen St (Dunkin Donuts on the corner) to the lights at Rt 38 (Main St) turn right... and then right again at the next light onto Livingston Street. This is effective from 7/6 to 7/20.
As you add people to your team's roster on the website, Eteamz will send that person an invitation to join. Please encourage everyone to accept the invitation...the site presently shows over 900 people who have not joined.
Remember that the winning team must post the score to all games. Log in to the ADMIN side of the site. Hit Schedules from the menu on the left, it expands to show you a link for Scores. Click there and then hit the edit pencil for the correct game. Enter the numbers. Do not go to this area until you're ready to post the score...if you open it up and then take no action, the site will think you had a zero-zero tie.
At no time should anyone click a button that says 'add schedule'
COACHES: Be sure to read the bylaws. There is a new rule this year that prohibits teams from making changes to the schedule. The bottom line is that you play by your schedule or take a forfeit.
You should have your copy of the by-laws with you at the game so any rules conflicts can be solved on the spot.
DIRECTIONS FOR INSURANCE PROGRAM. We still have about twenty teams that need to take care of insurance business. Let's get this done. THE ASA WILL BE CANCELING UMPIRES FOR TEAMS THAT ARE NOT INSURED.
If your team is already insured by a Bollingers Policy, you must send in a copy of the policy for our records. There will be no additional charge for those already covered by an official ASA Bollinger policy.
Otherwise, you will need to purchase insurance for your players on an individual basis. To do this...
Go to the HANDOUTS section of the website and download the insurance roster form. This is the template you must use. Fill it out and then send it as an attachment to my trusty assistant, Mariette. Her email address is mreilly128@yahoo.com In the subject line, please put the name of your team and division (Ex. North Reading Hornets - 14A) You should also "SAVE AS" your file by this name. When filling out this form, the only columns you need to complete are: First name, last name, Address, City, State, Zip code and Date of Birth.
A seperate check will be needed to cover the cost of the insurance. The cost is $9.00 per person. We suggest covering at least one coach per team as well, more if you'd like. Checks should be made out to: Middle Essex Softball League and sent c/o Mariette Reilly 42 Mt. Vernon St. - North Reading, MA 01864
You can always add players to your policy at a later date if need be.
If you have any questions about this new program please ask. We hope everyone will be patient as we transition to this new format. There may be a few bumps in the road, but in the end...it should all work out fine.
Remember to use your site to its fullest advantage. Also, please keep the size of any images that you post to a reasonable limit.
This year's All Star Games will be played in Tewksbury at the Livingston Street complex on Saturday, August 1st. More details will follow as the season goes on. -- Save the date!
