Canada Captures Gold Medal at 2011 Pan-Am Games

Canada defeated the U.S. 2-1 to capture the gold medal at the 2011 Pan Am Games.  It was Baseball Canada's first gold medal at an international tournament.  Congrats to all.

Monday, August 29
Stars Golden

The Windsor Stars capped off the 2012 season in excellent fashion capturing the Canadian Senior National Baseball Championship.  The Stars defeated the Burnaby, B.C. Bulldogs in the gold medal game by a score of 8-2.  John Picco went the distance on the mound for the Stars picking up his second complete game of the tourney.  The Stars finished with a 6-1 overall record.  Their only setback being a 2-1 loss to Chatham, New Brunswick in pool play.

Saturday, August 27
Stars Advance to Gold Medal Game

The Windsor Stars  have advanced to the Gold Medal Game at the 2011 Canadian Senior Baseball Championships in New Brunswick.  In semi-final action, the Stars scored five runs in the top of the 7th inning to break a 1-1 tie defeating New Brunswick 6-1.  Mike Czerwieniec was the winning pitcher. The Stars will face British Columbia in the final which has been rescheduled for Monday at 5:00 p.m. due to weather conditions in New Brunswick.  British Columbia defeated Chatham, New Brunswick 4-1 in the other semi-final.  The Stars finished pool action with a 3-1 record and have a 5-1 record overall.

Windsor Junior Selects 2011 Canadian Champs

The Windsor Junior Selects won the 2011 Canadian Junior Baseball Championships posting a 6-0 record in tournament play.  Windsor defeated St. Thomas 2-1 in the semi-final and defeated Mississauga North Tigers 5-2 in the gold medal game.  Rob Cooper went the distance for the Selects, striking out 9.  Quebec downed St. Thomas by a score of 7-2 to take the bronze medal.

Selects 16's & Woodslee Orioles Clinch Division Titles

Mic-Mac Major Division The Windsor Selects 16U team captured the Mic-Mac League Major Division Championship going undefeated with a 3-0 record.  The Selects defeated the (2-2) Tecumseh Minor 1-0 in the final.  The Selects scored an unearned run in the fourth inning on a two out error and an RBI triple off the bat of Matt Deneau.  Deneau was 2-3 for the Selects.  Casey Boutette had Tecumseh’s only two hits.  Josh Shepley was the winning pitcher on a two hitter, retiring the last 13 batters he faced while record nine strikeouts.   Mic-Mac League Minor Division The Woodslee Orioles won the Mic-Mac League Minor Division Championship.  After dropping their first game, on Sunday the Orioles defeated the unbeaten Lasalle Titans in back to back games by scores of 9-5 & 8-1.  Mitch Hudvagner led the attack with three hits.  Alec Miller got the win on the mound going the distance, giving up two hits.  Colin Sanders, Mark Vanrycheghem & Johan Fuerth chipped in with two hits apiece.

Windsor Stars Capture 2011 Ontario Provincial Championship

The Windsor Stars captured their fourth consecutive Ontario Championship on Monday with a 7-0 record.  The Stars defeated Newmarket 6-0 in the semi-final and Mississauga South West 6-5 in the final.  In the win over Newmarket, Dane Little went the distance on the mound for the win after being staked to a 6 run lead in the first. 

 

In the final game, the Stars took a 5-3 lead in to the 7th inning only to have Mississauga tie the score at 5-5.  The Stars rebounded with a run in the bottom of the inning for the 6-5 win.  Brian Simone led off with a triple to right centre. With one out Andrew Mosojc drilled a single to left to plate the winning run.  Matt Rustulka picked up the win in relief of Mike Czerwieniec.  The Stars now advance to the National Championship in Miramichi, New Brunswick August 25.

Jet Box captured the 2011 Can-Am League Championship with a 6-5 win over the Tecumseh Juniors.  Jet Box scored three runs in the bottom of the 6th to break a 3-3 tie.  Tecumseh countered with two runs in the 7th.  John Barreto was the winning pitcher, going the distance for Jet Box.  Alex Hacias had one hit & two RBI’s and Ryan Emers was 2-4 for Jet Box.  Rob Cooper was 2-3 for the Tecumseh Juniors.

Selects 16U Win Battle at the Capital

The Windsor Selects 16U won the Battle at The Capital Tournament in Lansing, Michigan, going 7-0 defeating the Michigan Hit Dogs 7-6 in the final.  Connor Mailloux picked up the win on the mound.  Justin Ortin & Andrew Bradt both went 3-4 for the Selects.

The Windsor Stars defeated Oakville to capture the Hap Walters Memorial Invitational Tournament.  The Stars mercied Oakville by a score of 13-1.

Windsor Junior Selects Capture Super 8 Tournament

The Windsor Junior Selects captured the Super 8 Junior Tournament going 5-0.  They defeated the Mississauga Tigers 9-4 in the semi-finals and the 4-1 Grosse Pointe Red Birds who reached the finals after in the final by a score of 12-0.  Grosse Pointe had reached the finals with a 3-2 win over Etobicoke.   B.J. Small picked up the win on a two hitter.  The Selects broke a scoreless tie, scoring 8 runs in the 3rd.  Chris Anderi and James Drew opened the inning with back to back singles.  With one out, Matt Cooke hit a mammoth three run homer, his second of the tournament.  The Selects added five more runs in the inning for an 8-0 lead.  Chris Anderi was 3-3 for the Selects.

Selects 18U Capture Great Lakes Elite Tournament

The Windsor Selects 18U captured the Great Lakes Elite Tournament going undefeated over the four day tournament having mercied four teams along the way.  In the semi-final, Skylar Janisse tossed a two hitter, striking out seven in the Selects 8-0 win.  Mitch Holgate went 1-3 with 3 RBI's.  In the Championship game, Ryan Soulliere gave up four hits and one run as the Selects defeated the Michigan Bulls by a score of 10-1.  Mitch Holgate & Brett Siddall led the offense with two RBI's apiece.

Selects open PBLO Season with a weekend split

The Windsor Selects 18's opened their 2011 season with a split against the Toronto Mets.  On Saturday, the Selects won the first game 8-7 and were defeated in the second game 14-6.   In Sunday's action the Selects fell to the Mets 2-0 and game back with a 6-1 win in the second game.

Windsor to Host Ontario Senior Championship

At the Ontario Baseball Association annual convention, Windsor was granted the 2011 & 2012 Senior Baseball Championship.  The 2011 event will be held July 29 - August 1, with the winner advancing to the National Championship, August 29 in Chatham, New Brunswick.
