Windsor Loses Ontario Championship
Windsor has lost the hosting of the 2009 Ontario Men’s Baseball Championships. Twenty-two teams, of which nineteen were from out of town had entered, vying for the right to represent Ontario at the Canadian Championship in Dartmouth, NS.
It is virtually impossible to carry on without the two main fields in the Mic-Mac park complex, leaving only Lacasse Park in Tecumseh and Woodslee available for a slate of forty-three games. The Mic-Mac facility was to be the event headquarters and site of the championship final.
The Ontario Baseball Association had been put on notice and has been scrambling for an alternate site. It is unfortunate to lose some quality sporting entertainment, not to mention the impact it would have had on the local economy i.e. hotel & restaurants.
