My daughter has played field hockey under Cathy Waite, the Fallbrook High School field hockey coach for Fallbrook H.S., in Fallbrook, California (San Diego County)at the Jr. high school level for 2+ years. She is not playing this year, 9th grade, her first year in high school, as she had bone surgery in May 2009 to her left fibula (lower outside of leg right above ankle). Needless to say she is crest-fallen being unable to play her favorite sport!
The reason I am contacting you is we are looking to move to the Traverse City area and she wants to continue to play field hockey if she is fortunate enough to maker the team. The problem seems to be there are no teams offered in Traverse City high school(s) that I have checked. I searched the local 3 high school for there sports offerings and field hockey does not seem to be one of them.
My question is, how does one get field hockey to an area (or area high schools) in Michigan that has never offered their students this particular sport?
Does one have to have special teaching credentials to be able to form and coach a team in the state of Michigan?
I am lost and was hoping to be advised.
