BOYS RALLY TO FINISH RUNNER-UP IN INDOOR STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
The boys scored 25 points in the final two events to steal the runner-up trophy and finish just 6.25 points behind first-place Salesianum in the DIAA indoor track & field state championship Saturday at the University of Delaware.
Ryan Thomas, who placed third in high jump and 7th in long jump earlier in the day, tied the sophomore state record with a jump of 45 feet, 2.5 inches to win triple jump in the final event of the day, while Taiwan Savage also jumped in to place fourth in triple to seal the rally.
Savage, who had just come off his second title of the day after teaming with Josh Johnson, Miles Russell and Isaiah Brown to win the 1600-meter relay, also started the day with Johnson, Brown and Mike Doughty to win the 3200-meter relay. Both relay times ranked among the Top 25 in state history.
Johnson, Brown and Russell also teamed with Bryson Cartwright to place second in the 800-meter relay, while Brown finished runner-up in the 400 and Derek Munce placed third with a career-best in pole vault.
Meanwhile, Molly Bliss, Hannah Uebele, Savannah Becker and Alexis Groce ran a season-best to place third in the 3200-meter relay, leading the girls' team to an eighth-place finish overall.

BOYS, GIRLS NAIL DOWN INDOOR HENLOPEN TITLES
The boys & girls indoor track & field teams hauled in 15 event titles to sweep the Henlopen Championships Friday at Snow Hill, Md. With Alexis Groce anchoring three winning relays and also scoring her fourth gold in the 400 meters, the girls held off runner-up Cape Henlopen 140 to 130, while the boys — led by Ryan Thomas who jumped to three individual golds and Carl Richardson who collected three more golds — scored 145 points to run away from CR.

BUCS CLOSE OUT SEASON AT MEET OF CHAMPS
The track & field season officially came to a close Wednesday night at the Meet of Champions in Dover, and the boys & girls brought home five runner-up performances and some new school records.
The boys 3200-meter relay of Isaiah Brown, Mike Doughty, Josh Johnson and Taiwan Savage placed second in a new school record of 8:09.42, while the girls 1600-meter relay of Molly Bliss, Shekinah Brown, Tyesha Bowman and Alexis Groce also placed second in a new record of 4:01.88. Bliss also set a new school mark in the 800 with a 2:19.64.
The boys 400-meter relay of Alex Vantine, Shane Letthand, Bryson Cartwright and Dawan Smith ran a season-best time of 43.0 for silver, and four-year vets Shekinah Brown (300 hurdles) and Kari Elzey (discus) wrapped up stellar careers with runner-up finishes.
Isaiah Brown added a bronze with his best in 300 hurdles, while Jon Jones closed his four years with a best of 143 feet, four inches in discus. Freshman Ryan Thomas busted out a triple jump of 45-1 (4th).
Other place-winners included the boys 800 relay of Phil Shorts, Smith, Cartwright and Letthand (4th); girls 400 relay of Keyanna Winder, Brown, Destiny Sivels and Bowman (5th); boys 1600 relay of Brown, Johnson, Savage and Smith (4th); and Carl Richardson in pole vault (6th).

BOYS CLINCH PERFECT SEASON WITH STATE TITLE; GIRLS FINISH THIRD
Congratulations to the boys' track & field team who clinched a perfect season with a Division II state championship Saturday at Caesar Rodney. The boys scored in 15 of the 18 events, incuding five runner-ups, to outdistance second-place Tatnall, 82-61. Meanwhile, the girls -- led by a 400-meter relay championship by Keyanna Winder, Shekinah Brown, Alli Henderson and Destiny Sivels -- finished third overall, just two points from a runner-up trophy.
Senior Dawan Smith led the team with 16.5 points with a runner-up finish in long jump and a bronze in the 400 meters. He also joined Phil Shorts, Bryson Cartwright and Isaiah Brown to place third in the 1600-meter relay. Freshman Ryan Thomas jumped a career-best 43'10" to place second in triple, while the 3200 relay of Taiwan Savage, Mike Doughty, Josh Johnson and Brown, the 800 relay of Shorts, Brown, Cartwright and Shane Letthand and the 400 relay of Alex Vantine, Chas Holden, Cartwright and Letthand each finished second.
For the girls, Shekinah Brown led the way with 16.5 points as she finished runner-up in the 300-meter hurdles and also helped the 1600-meter relay with Molly Bliss, Tyesha Bowman and Alexis Groce set a new school record for a second-place finish. Bliss also set a new school record in the 800 meters to place fourth, and Kari Elzey placed second in discus.
Overall, Carl Richardson (pole vault) and Cartwright (long jump), along with the girls 3200 relay of Bliss, Kelsey Cabera, Henderson and Groce added bronze medals.

BOYS WIN HENLOPEN MEET; GIRLS FINISH RUNNER-UP
Phil Shorts, Dawan Smith, Bryson Cartwright and Isaiah Brown closed out the weekend by winning the 1600-meter relay in the second-fastest time in Henlopen meet history to help the boys clinch the team championship Saturday at Lake Forest. Meanwhile, Molly Bliss, Tyesha Bowman, Alli Henderson and Alexis Groce also closed out an exciting win in the 1600-meter relay to secure a runner-up finish for the girls' team.
Smith scored a big weekend with individual wins in the 200 and 400 -- his third-straight title in each of those events, and he also busted out a new school record of 48.89 seconds in the 400 and a career-best in long jump to place third. Bryson Cartwright captured the long jump title with a jump of 22 feet-5 inches -- the 10th longest in meet history.
The boys 3200-meter relay of Brown, Mike Doughty, Josh Johnson and Taiwan Savage started the weekend with a title, while the girls 3200 relay of Groce, Bliss, Henderson and Kelsey Cabrera also set a new school record. Carl Richardson won the 3200 meters and Kari Elzey won discus, while Henry Phalen also qualified for states in the 3200 meters. Molly Bliss set a new Bloom record in the 1600.

Congratulations to the boys & girls track & field teams who successfully completed undefeated 11-0 regular-season Henlopen Conference Championships on Tuesday by defeating Woodbridge in their season finale.

BUCS BATTLE TOP-FLIGHT COMPETITION AT HENDERSON INV.
The girls 3200-meter relay of Alexis Groce, Kelsey Cabrera, Alli Henderson and Molly Bliss reset their school record with a 10:15.92 and the boys 400-meter relay of Alex Vantine, Chas Holden, Bryson Cartwright and Dawan Smith placed third to highlight top peformances at the Henderson Invitational Friday night.
Other medal winners included Kari Elzey (discus), Isaiah Brown (300 hurdles), Destiny Sivels (100), Ryan Thomas (triple jump), Dawan Smith (long jump). Chas Holden (100), Darreus McCrea (110 hurdles) and Henry Phalen (1600) added provisional qualifiers for states.
Carl Richardson and Molly Bliss added career-bests in the 1600 and 800, respectively.

BOYS, GIRLS MARCH ONTO 10-0 WITH WINS OVER CAPE, TECH
Molly Bliss, Alli Henderson, Shekinah Brown and Alexis Groce smashed out the second fastest time in school history to win the 1600-meter relay in stellar fashion and clinch a 77-68 win over defending champion Cape Henlopen Monday. With a win over Tech as well, the girls improve to 10-0 on the season as do the boys who also cruised to wins over each team.
Both teams will look to wrap up an undefeated regular-season Henlopen championships next Tuesday at Woodbridge.
Overall, Brown led the girls with 23.75 points with wins in both hurdle events, including a new school-record time of 46.0 in the 300s, while Molly Bliss had a career-day to win the 1600 and 800 meters. Meanwhile, Keyanna Winder and Destiny Sivels each had big days, each scoring over 20 points. Kari Elzey won discus and added 14 points, while Tyesha Bowman smashed her 400-meter time and added 17.5 points. Bliss, Henderson, Groce and Kelsey Cabrera also set a school record in the 3200-meter relay.
Hannah Westwood (pole vault) and Jasmine Williams (shot) added career-bests, while Kesline Beaucejour qualified for states in shot put. Kaitlyn Payne provisionally qualified for high jump as did Nia Bection in long jump.
For the boys, Carl Richardson led the way with wins in pole vault and the 1600, while Isaiah Brown and Shane Letthand each added a pair of relay wins and an individual win. Phil Shorts smashed his time to win the 400, while Derek Munce qualified for states in the triple jump, James Hagen in pole vault, and Josh Johnson added a provisional qualifier in the 200.

BOYS, GIRLS REPRESENT AT PENN RELAYS
The boys' & girls' sprint teams represented well over the weekend at Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
On Thursday, the girls' 400-meter relay of Keyanna Winder, Shekinah Brown, Destiny Sivels and Tyesha Bowman ran a 50.51, while the 1600-meter relay of Molly Bliss, Tyesha Bowman, Alli Henderson and Alexis Groce ran their fastest time of the season at 4:13.84.
The boys' 400-meter relay of Alex Vantine, Dawan Smith, Bryson Cartwright and Shane Letthand ran a 44.33 on Friday, while Smith and Cartwright joined Isaiah Brown and Phil Shorts for a 3:25.63 on Saturday.

BOYS TAKE FIRST, GIRLS SECOND AT TWILIGHT RELAYS
Phil Shorts, Isaiah Brown, Bryson Cartwright and Dawan Smith closed the night with a school-record 3:21.77 in the 1600-meter relay as the boys claimed the top spot at the Twilight Relays Thursday at Caravel Academy. Meanwhile, the girls finished a close second as the top Delaware team in Section II.

BUCS ROLL AT HOME TO IMPROVE TO 8-0
Keyanna Winder scored three individual wins, while Molly Bliss busted out bests to win the 1600 & 800 meters as the girls improved to 8-0 with wins over Laurel and Sussex Central at home Tuesday. Meanwhile, Carl Richardson and Phil Shorts each posted a pair of individual wins to keep the boys undefeated as well.
For the girls, Kari Elzey tossed a career-best to win shot and added a win in discus, while Kesline Beaucejour teamed up with career bests in both events as well. Sandra Legros, Sigmarie Rodriquez and Alexis Groce each scored a pair or relay wins, while freshman Lakeisha Pettyjohn scored 14.5 points. Shekinah Brown, Aaliyah Davis, Kelsey Cabrera and Lauriel Robertson each added at least 15 points.
On the boys' side, Derek Munce smashed a best to win high jump, while Josh Johnson, Alex Vantine, Bryson Cartwrigh and Shane Letthand each picked up a pair of relay wins. Ryan Thomas led the team with 24 points.

COLD NIGHT AT DOVER BRINGS 6-0 RECORD
Ryan Thomas won triple jump with a career-best and later added a state-qualifying win in pole vault, scoring 26 points, to lead the boys to a pair of victories over Dover and Polytech on a cold Friday night in Dover. Meanwhile, Keyanna Winder won long jump, triple jump and 100-meter hurdles to lead the girls as both teams improved to 6-0 on the the season.
For the boys, Isaiah Brown and Bryson Cartwright scored big nights as each scored an individual win and two relay wins, while Shane Letthand and Phil Shorts won the 200 and 400, respectively. On the girls' side Shekinah Brown, Tyesha Bowman, Destiny Sivels, Alexis Groce, Molly Bliss, Kelsey Cabrera and Kesline Beaucejour scored key individual wins.
Shorts qualified for states in the 400 meters, while Aaliyah Davis added a provisional qualifier in long jump.

BOYS, GIRLS MOVE TO 4-0 WITH WINS AT CR
Both the boys & girls track & field teams improved to 4-0 on the season after sweeping away Smyrna and Caesar Rodney in hard-fought battles that spanned over two days and ended Wednesday.
The boys rallied strong with 27 points in the final four events as freshman Ryan Thomas busted out a career-best to win triple jump, Shane Letthand and Dawan Smith went 1-2 in the 200, Carl Richardson, Steve Eshelman and Henry Phalen swept the 3200 meters before the 4x400 team of Isaiah Brown, Josh Johnson, Bryson Cartwright and Taiwan Savage cruised to victory to close out the huge team win. Smith led the Bucs with 28.5 points for the day.
For the girls, Molly Bliss led the way with wins in the 1600 and 800 meters and two winning relays, while Alexis Groce, Keyanna Winder, Shekinah Brown, Destiny Sivels, Tyesha Bowman, Aaliyah Davis and Kesline Beaucejour scored key wins. Alli Henderson scored a key rally in the 300 hurdles, while Kelsey Cabrera ran strong in the distance races.
New state qualifiers included Kai Purnell in the 300 hurdles, Letthand in the 200, and Jasmine Williams in shot put. Phalen (3200), Thomas (pole vault) and Beaucejour (shot put) added provisional qualifiers.

GIRLS WIN CARAVEL INVITE; BOYS CLAIM A CLOSE RUNNER-UP
Shekinah Brown scored a team-high 17.5 points, including a win in the 300-meter hurdles in a new school-record time of 47.97 seconds, as the girls edged out Tatnall win the 20-team Caravel Invitational Saturday. Meanwhile, Dawan Smith won the long jump and scored 19.5 points to lead the boys to a runner-up finish, just two points behind Brandywine.
Kari Elzey won discus and added a career-best toss in shot put, while Destiny Sivels (100), Tyesha Bowman (400) Kesline Beaucejour (discus) and Hannah Westwood (pole vault) scored silver medals. Khila Hughes also anchored two medal-winning relays.
For the boys, Bryson Cartwright and Ryan Thomas scored medals in the jumps, while the 400-meter relay of Alex Vantine, Shane Letthand, Phil Shorts and Cartwright and the 1600-meter relay of Shorts, Cartwright, Smith and Isaiah Brown each placed third in season-best times.
New state qualifiers included Steve Eshelman, Carl Richardson and Kelsey Cabrera in the 1600, Taiwan Savage and Mike Doughty in the 800, Derek Munce in the high jump & pole vault, and Thomas (high jump), Shorts (200), Letthand (100), Bowman (400) and Kieran Purnell (300 hurdles).

BUCS DODGE HAIL STORMS FOR BESTS AT D.C.
Despite hail storms and cold rain that shortened their day, the boys’ & girls’ track & field teams fared well at the Crimson Tide Classic Saturday in Washington, D.C. Kari Elzey successfully defended her meet title and record in discus with a career-best and Penn Relay qualifying throw of 117 feet.
Jon Jones and Derrick Strickland also had a solid day in discus placing second and fourth, respectively. Aaliyah Davis scored a best in shot put, Shekinah Brown added PRs in long jump and hurdles, while the 3200-meter runners of Carl Richardson, Steve Eshelman and Henry Phalen each shattered bests to move up on the Bloom Top 10.
Kelsey Cabrera (3200) and Dawan Smith (200) added state qualifiers, while Bryson Cartwright (100 & 200) and Lauriel Robertson (high jump) added provisional qualifiers.

Isaiah Brown crushed a career-best to win 300 hurdles and also qualified for states in the 110s, while Bryson Cartwright busted out a big long jump to qualify for states. Taiwan Savage added a qualifier in the 400, while Carl Richardson and Steve Eshelman (1600), Kieran Purnell (300 hurdles), Ryan Thomas (high jump) and Derek Munce (pole vault) also qualified provisionally for states.

BOYS, GIRLS SWEEP AWAY UPSTATE COMPETITION AT A.I. RELAYS
The boys’ & girls’ track & field teams picked up 56 medals, including 41 golds, to sweep away the 12-team competition with first-place team trophies at the icy, cold Field & Track Relays at A.I. duPont High School on Friday.
Steve Eshelman started the day with a career-best to win the 3200 meters, while Keyanna Winder and Shekinah Brown led the team with four golds apiece. Jon Jones and Derrick Strickland qualified for states in the discus, while Josh Johnson added a qualifier in high jump as did Hannah Westwood in pole vault.

BOYS, GIRLS OPEN 2011 SPRING SEASON WITH HOME WINS VS. SEAFORD
Dawan Smith scored 14.25 points and qualified for states in the 100, 400 and long jump, while Alexis Groce posted 11.25 points and qualified in the 200 and 400 as the boys and girls opened their 2011 season with home wins versus Seaford Tuesday.
Shekinah Brown (long jump, 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles) and Keyanna Winder (triple jump, long jump, 100 hurdles) each qualified for three events to help the girls, while Molly Bliss won the 800 and 1600 in state-qualifying times. Kari Elzey added state-qualifying throws to win the shot put & discus, while Alli Henderson (300 hurdles) and Destiny Sivels (100) scored state-qualifying wins. Tyesha Bowman (100, 200), Kesline Beaucejour (discus), Aaliyah Davis (shot put) and Destiny Whidbee (discus) also qualified for states.
For the boys, Carl Richardson won the 3200 and pole vault, while Jon Jones swept the shot put and discus as each made states. Isaiah Brown (300 hurdles), Kieran Purnell (110 hurdles) and Ryan Thomas (triple jump) scored wins and qualifiers, while Steve Eshelman (3200), Josh Johnson (400), Taiwan Savage (triple) and Derrick Strickland (shot put) also added state qualifiers.

GIRLS FINISH RUNNER-UP AT 2011 STATE INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP!
Congratulations go out to the Milford High girls’ track & field team who scored the school’s first indoor state meet trophy by finishing tied for the runner-up spot at the 2011 DIAA state championship held Saturday at the University of Delaware. Meanwhile, the boys scored a solid eighth-place overall.
Keyanna Winder finished second in both the 55-meter hurdles and long jump, while Alexis Groce added a second in the 400. Her career-best time of 60.29 seconds ranked 33rd ALL-TIME on the STATE indoor performance list. Molly Bliss also reached the state all-time list with her 800-meter run.
Josh Johnson led the boys with a silver medal in the high jump, and he also anchored the third-place 4x800 team with Taiwan Savage, Mike Doughty and Carl Richardson. Dawan Smith also scored a bronze in long jump with a jump of 21 feet, 4.25 inches -- 41st ALL-TIME in the state!

BOYS, GIRLS FINISH RUNNER-UP AT HENLOPEN INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP - JUST MERE POINTS FROM TITLES
In an incredibly close chase for the Henlopen Indoor title Friday, both the boys and girls finished runner-up -- just missing a championship sweep. The boys slipped to CR, 146-144, while the girls were edged by Cape, 125-121. Overall, the Bucs still scored a strong day with nine individual champions and two relay titles.

ALUMNUS SHEENA JOHNS SHINES AT ST. AUG'S
Student-athletes Orolando Duffus, Sheena Johns and Allison Sikes of Saint Augustine's College were named to the 2010 CIAA Commissioner's All-Academic Team, which was announced Friday. Saint Augustine's College tied for the second-most student-athletes on the team.
Johns, a junior from Milford and former standout runner at Milford High School, is an NCAA Division II All-American in indoor track and field with a 3.66 cumulative GPA. She was part of the 4x400 relay team which placed second at the 2010 Division II Indoor Championships. An All-CIAA performer, Johns is a member of the CIAA Outdoor Champion 4x100 relay team and the CIAA Indoor Champion 4x400 relay team. She helped the Lady Falcons win the 2010 CIAA Indoor and Outdoor team crowns.
Academically, Johns is the top honor student in the computer information systems department of the division of business and computer science. A business administration major, Johns is also on the Presidential Scholars List, the 2009 Fall Dean's List, and the Scholar Athletes List. Johns won the school's Mother Cynthia Pratt Award for the most outstanding female student-athlete who has demonstrated a commitment to public service.

ELZEY CLAIMS FIRST-TEAM ALL-STATE IN DISCUS AT MEET OF CHAMPS
Congratulations to junior Kari Elzey who threw a career-best 112 feet, 6 inches to win the Meet of Champions discus title Wednesday night at Dover High. She earns first-team All-state for the toss.
Shayla Dukes scored a third-place medal in the high jump, while the 400-meter relay of Keyanna Winder, Shekinah Brown, Destiny Sivels and Tyesha Bowman placed third -- just 7 one-hundredths out of a win with a 49.87.
In his final race as a Milford High runner, Patrick Helmick set a new school record of 4:28.00 in the 1600 meters, while Taiwan Savage set a Bloom record of 2:00.42 in the 800.

GIRLS SHINE AT STATES, WHILE BOYS FALTER
Keyanna Winder, Shekinah Brown, Destiny Sivels and Tyesha Bowman set a new school record of 49.67 to finish runner-up in the 400-meter relay and highlight a strong weekend at the state championship for the girls, who finished third in Division II. Kari Elzey (discus) and Shayla Dukes (high jump) also scored runner-up performances.
Meanwhile, the boys endured tough circumstances all weekend long and slipped to ninth overall. Patrick Helmick surged to a school record of 4:29.61 to place fourth in the 1600 meters, which helped erase the sting of an untimely disqualification on Friday that stripped him and fellow teammates of Michael Johnson, Taiwan Savage, and Erik Gibbs of a new school record and 3200-meter relay state title.

BOYS RALLY TO WIN HENLOPEN MEET CHAMPIONSHIP; GIRLS FINISH FOURTH
Dawan Smith won the 200 and 400 meter titles and helped the 800 & 1600-meter relay teams to titles as the boys rallied to fend off second-place Caesar Rodney, 105-92, at the 2010 Henlopen meet championship Saturday at Lake Forest. Meanwhile, the girls finished a strong fourth with 78 points, highlighted by three bronze medals by Alexis Groce.
Michael Johnson -- who scored three relay golds and an individual bronze, Taiwan Savage, Erik Gibbs and Patrick Helmick ran an 8:10.1 on Friday to successfully defend their 3200-meter relay conference title and set a new school and Henlopen Conference championship meet record on the first day of competition.
Guy Altidor (high jump) and Alex Vantine (100) qualified for states, while Miranda Spina added a provisional qualifier in 300-meter hurdles.

BOYS COMPLETE HENLOPEN CHAMPIONSHIP RUN, WHILE GIRLS COME CLOSE
Mike Johnson and Rossiny Beaucejour each won a pair of events, Jon Jones set a new Bloom record in discus, and all four relays won as the boys completed an undefeated 11-0 Henlopen Conference regular-season championship Monday with wins over Cape Henlopen and Sussex Tech. Meanwhile, the girls matched their best regular-season record ever, going 10-1 after topping Tech, but falling to undefeated Cape.
Kie Purnell (110 hurdles), Shayla Dukes (100), Destiny Sivels (200), Destiny Whidbee (discus) and Jasmine Williams (shot put) each qualified for states, while Beaucejour (long jump), Bryson Cartwright (200) and Dalton Talley (800) each added provisional qualifiers. Shayla Dukes also reclaimed the long jump school record with a 17 feet, 6.25 inch jump.

RELAYS REPRESENT AT PENN RELAYS
Shayla Dukes, Shekinah Brown, Destiny Sivels and Tyesha Bowman ran their fastest time of the season in the 400-meter relay (51.25) as did Alli Henderson, Bowman, Katlin Town and Alexis Groce in the 1600-meter relay (4:16.92) to represent MHS at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia Thursday.
On Friday, the boys 4x800 of Patrick Helmick, Taiwan Savage, Erik Gibbs and Michael Johnson ran 8:18.71, while the 4x100 of Alex Barnett, Nick Albert, Alex Vantine and Bryson Cartwright went 47.09.
In Saturday's 4x400, Michael Johnson, Erik Gibb, Rossiny Beaucejour and Taiwan Savage ran 3:32.92.

BOYS, GIRLS SWEEP UP CR TOGETHER FOR THE FIRST TIME
Congratulations to the girls who defeated Caesar Rodney for the first time ever in school history Tuesday at Smyrna. Freshman Alexis Groce won the 1600 and 3200 meters in state-qualifying time after anchoring the winning 4x800 team to its fastest time of the season as the girls won, 77-69. The girls also beat Smyrna, 120-26, to improve to 6-0.
Meanwhile, the boys also improved to 6-0 with another hard-fought 77-69 win over CR and a 100-46 win over Smyrna. Patrick Helmick anchored the winning 4x800, won the 1600, and later set a new Bloom record in the 800 meters to lead the way, while Dawan Smith, Dalton Talley, Bryan Pettyjohn and Nick Albert scored individual wins.
Aaliyah Davis (shot put), Steve Hagen (pole vault), Carl Richardson (1600), Clarence Cartwright (300 hurdles), Keyanna Winder (100), Shayla Dukes (300 hurdles) and Katlin Town (high jump) also added state qualifications, while Jhavon Goode (200), Derek Munce (pole vault), Alex Barnett (triple jump) and Destiny Sivels (100) added provisional qualifiers.

Led by a first & second-place finish in discus, the boys & girls combined to place third at the Cape Co-ed Relays Saturday.
All four discus throwers of Jon Jones, Derrick Strickland, Kari Elzey and Jasmine each scored career-best throws to lead the way, while the 3200-meter relay team of Alexis Groce, Erik Gibbs, Alli Henderson and Patrick Helmick scored gold on the track.
Shayla Dukes who teamed with Jhavon Goode to win high jump also set a new school record in long jump of 17 feet, 2 inches, while Nick Albert and Miranda Spina vaulted season bests to win pole vault. Carl Richardson (pole vault), Robinson (discus) and Strickland (shot put) qualified for states.

BUCS TOP DOVER, POLYTECH IN THE RAIN
Destiny Sivels and Shayla Dukes each scored 23 points and Alexis Groce scored two individual wins and a relay win to help the girls defeat Dover and Polytech at home Tuesday. BOYS TOP TEAMS AT CARAVEL INVITATIONAL; GIRLS FINISH THIRD
Led by Jason Harper's school record triple jump of 47 feet, 1.75 inches and a dominating win by the 3200-meter relay of Patrick Helmick, Taiwan Savage, Erik Gibbs and Michael Johnson, the boys topped the 20-field team at the Caravel Invitational Saturday. Meanwhile, Shayla Dukes (long & high jump) and Kari Elzey (discus) scored individual wins to pace the girls to a third-place finish.

BOYS, GIRLS REPRESENT AT CRIMSON TIDE CLASSIC IN D.C.
Jason Harper won high jump and triple jump and placed second in long jump to lead the boys to a third-place finish out of 30 top-flight teams at the Crimson Tide Classic Saturday in Washington, D.C. Harper's 44'11" jump was good enough for a new meet record.
Meanwhile, Kari Elzey set a new meet record of 105'1" in discus, helping the girls to a 8th-place finish. Shayla Dukes also set a new school record in high jump (5'2"), placed 4th in long jump and made finals in hurdles, while Shekinah Brown qualified for states in the 110 hurdles and 200 meters and Alexis Groce busted out a 2:28.17 to place 5th in the 800.
The boys 3200-meter relay of Patrick Helmick, Taiwan Savage, Erik Gibbs and Michael Johnson ran a 8:12.25 to place third, while Savage set a new Bloom record of 2:02.27 in the open 800. Jon Jones added a state qualifier in discus as did Bryson Cartwright in long jump, Dawan Smith in the 200 and Dalton Talley in the 300 hurdles. Clarence Cartwright (300 hurdles) and Nick Albert (400) provisionally qualified.

Freshmen Alexis Groce and Tyesha Bowman each scored a pair of individual wins and assisted a winning relay to help the girls to a win over Lake Forest Wednesday. Jason Harper, who set a new Bloom record of 6-feet-2 inches in high jump, and Derrick Strickland each scored two individual wins to lead the boys.

BOYS, GIRLS OPEN 2010 WITH HOME WIN AGAINST WOODBRIDGE
Kari Elzey won three events, qualifying for states in the shot and discus, to lead the girls to a home win over Woodbridge to open 2010. Meanwhile, Clarence Cartwright led the boys with 11 points, including a win in long jump.
Shayla Dukes came two inches shy of a school record in long jump and also qualified for states in the high jump, while numerous Bucs qualified for states in their events.

BOYS FINISH A BEST-EVER THIRD AT INDOOR STATE MEET
Congratulations to the boys who finished third out of 30+ teams at 2010 DIAA state indoor meet Saturday at University of Delaware. The girls finished a solid 12th overall.
Jason Harper started the day with his first state title (and the first for MHS since 1976) in high jump with Josh Johnson runner-up. The 3200-meter relay of Patrick Helmick, Taiwan Savage, Erik Gibbs and Michael Johnson finished a close second, as did Dawan Smith in long jump.
The 1600-meter relay of Miles Russell, Johnson, Johnson and Gibbs finished third as well as senior vaulter Nick Albert and Miranda Spina. Kari Elzey scored a career-best toss of 30 feet, 5.5 inches in shot put.

HARPER, RELAYS SET NEW SCHOOL RECORDS AT NIKE NATIONALS
Jason Harper jumped a new school record 46 feet, 6.75 inches Friday at the Nike Outdoor Nationals at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C. He placed 14th overall. The boys 400-meter relay of Dwayne Mason, Dawan Smith, Jalil Davis and Devon Sivels placed runner-up in the Emerging Elite class with a 42.98. They had set a school record earlier in the day with a 42.91 in the prelims. The boys 800-meter relay of Davis, Sivels, Michael Johnson and Smith ran a school record 1:29.80 to place runner-up in the Emerging Elite division as well. Smith placed 4th in his heat in the 200 with a 23.02 and 4th in his heat in the 400 with a 50.44

SMITH SPRINTS WAY TO FIRST-TEAM ALL-STATE AT MEET OF CHAMPS
Congratulations to sophomore Dawan Smith who won the 400 meters in a new Bloom record of 49.22 seconds to earn First-team All-state at the Meet of Champions in Dover Wednesday night. Smith also set a new school record in the 200 meters in 22.17 and anchored the 1600-meter relay, along with Dalton Talley, Michael Johnson and Bremante Parker, to a new school record of 3:25.16.
Kari Elzey threw over 100 feet for the first time in discus, while senior Nathan Simpson closed out his stellar four-year career with a season-best 12 foot 6 inches in pole vault to finish runner-up.
The 400-meter relay of Bryan Pettyjohn, Dwayne Mason, Jalil Davis and Devon Sivels ran a season-best 43.43, while Shayla Dukes added a personal best in long jump. The boys 3200-meter relay of Jordan Showell, Patrick Helmick, Erik Gibbs and Michael Johnson also placed third.
Pole vaulters Nick Albert, Chris Pink, Miranda Spina, the boys 800-meter relay, girls 400 and 800 relays, Jason Harper and Katlin Town also competed well.

BOYS TAKE HOME STATE TITLE; GIRLS RALLY FOR FOURTH
Congratulations to the Milford High boys track & field team for winning the 2009 Division II state title Saturday at Caesar Rodney with 92 points. The girls finished a strong fourth overall, led by Miranda Spina who set a new school record of 9'0" to win the pole vault title.
Dalton Talley, Michael Johnson, Bremante Parker and Dawan Smith closed out the day by setting a new school record and winning the 1600-meter relay. The 400-meter relay of Bryan Pettyjohn, Dwayne Mason, Jalil Davis and Devon Sivels and the 800-meter relay of Davis, Sivels, Johnson and Smith won titles earlier in the day. Smith also claimed the team's lone individual state title in the 200 meters.
The 3200-meter relay of Jordan Showell, Patrick Helmick, Erik Gibbs and Johnson set a school record in placing third on Friday.

Dawan Smith won the 200 and 400 meters in a new Bloom record time of 49.88 to pace the boys to a runner-up finish in the Henlopen Championships Saturday at Lake Forest. The boys scored 109 points to CR's 134. Meanwhile, the girls put together a great team effort to finish third overall behind CR and Cape.

BOYS 3200 RELAY SMASHES RECORD TO HIGHLIGHT HENLOPEN FIRST DAY
Jordan Showell, Patrick Helmick, Erik Gibbs and Michael Johnson ran a school-record time of 8 minutes, 14 seconds to win the 3200-meter relay Friday in the first day of the Henlopen Championship at Lake Forest. Their time also ranks as the sixth fastest time ever run at the meet.

BUCS WRAP UP 2ND STRAIGHT 20+ WIN REGULAR SEASON
With regular-season wins in their regular-season finale at home Monday, the Bucs combined for 20 victories for the second-straight season. The boys finished 11-1 overall, while the girls ended 9-3.
Steve Eshleman ran personal bests in both the 1600 and 3200 meters to qualify provisionally for the boys, while Bryan Pettyjohn, Dawan Smith, Devon Sivels, Jason Harper, Chris Pink, Justin Arseneau and Dalton Talley scored individual wins.
For the girls, Kira Robinson won the 100, while Miranda Spina again matched her school record to win pole vault. The 3200- and 800-meter relays ran their fastest times of the season.

BOYS, GIRLS CLINCH SOUTH TITLE WITH HOME WINS AGAINST LAKE FOREST
The boys and girls swept away three of four relays to clinch the 2009 Henlopen Conference Southern Division title with wins over Lake Forest Friday. The boys improve to 9-1 on the season, while the girls are now 8-2.
For the girls, Molly Bliss, Jessica Griffith, Ziondra Russ and Shayla Dukes each won an individual event and help winning relays, while Miranda Spina added a win in pole vault. On the boys side, Jason Harper won the long and triple jump, and Erik Gibbs, Patrick Helmick and Steve Eshelman helped sweep away the distance events. Justin Arseneau also tossed a career-best to win shot put. The boys also scored three relay wins, while Dawan Smith won the 400 and Nick Albert and Chris Pink led pole vault.
Rossiny Beaucejour qualified for states in 110 hurdles, and Kari Elzey tossed career-best marks in shot and discus.

Bryan Pettyjohn, Jason Harper and Shayla Dukes each scored over 40 points a piece to lead the boys and girls track teams to a sweep of St. Thomas More, Laurel and Sussex Central Tuesday.
Dalton Talley qualified for states in the 400 meters, while Molly Bliss and Miles Russell scored provisional qualifiers in the event. Mike Johnson (800), Jason Harper (100) and Ziondra Russ (100) added provisional times as well. The boys move to 7-1 on the season while the girls are now 6-2.

Ziondra Russ, Kira Robinson, Shekinah Brown and Shayla Dukes scored the team's fastest time of the season (4:23.50) in the 1600-meter relay to highlight a solid showing at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
Joycelynn Johnson, Robinson, Brown and Dukes also ran a 53.34 in the 400-meter relay.
For the boys, Jalil Davis, Dawan Smith, Dwayne Mason and Devon Sivels ran a 44.29 in the 400 relay, while Miles Russell, Michael Johnson, Clarence Cartwright and Smith ran a 3:39.72 in the 4x4.

BOYS GET EDGED OUT BY CR; BOTH TEAMS TOPPLE SMYRNA
In an extremely close meet Tuesday, Dawan Smith led the way for the boys with wins in the 200, 400 and 1600-meter relay. Bryan Pettyjohn won high jump and helped the 400-meter relay to wins, while Jason Harper won triple jump and Justin Arseneau swept away the shot put and discus. For the girls, Kira Robinson won the 100, Katlin Town won high jump and Kari Elzey discus.
The bucs qualified Erik Gibbs (1600), Jordan Showell (800), Mike Johnson (400), Bremante Parker (400), Shayla Dukes (300 hurdles) and Katlin Town (high jump) for states, while Rossiny Beaucejour reached provisional qualification in both hurdles.

GIRLS, BOYS TEAM UP TO VAULT PAST COMPETITION AT CAPE CO-EDS
The girls and boys teamed up to win the Cape Henlopen Co-ed Relays Saturday. Miranda Spina (8'6") set a new school record in pole vault, and Chris Pink later tied the boys mark with a 13'0" as the duo took first to cap a strong day for the Bucs.
The 400-meter relay of Bryan Pettyjohn, Shayla Dukes, Dwayne Mason and Kira Robinson scored gold as did the long jump duo of Dukes and Jalil Davis. Justin Arseneau tossed a 44'0" in shot put to earn bronze with Kyien Young.

The boys and girls each won Section II championship at the Twilight Relays Friday at Caravel Academy. The boys won four field events and five track relays, while the girls won three field events. The 3200-meter relay of Jordan Showell, Patrick Helmick, Erik Gibbs and Michael Johnson scored gold in a new Bloom record time of 8:28, Jason Harper won high jump, and Dawan Smith won the 400 meters and helped the 400-meter relay to victory as the boys finished runner-up to CR on a windy, rainy, cold Saturday at Lake Forest at the Keith S. Burgess Invitational. Kira Robinson ran her best times of the season, finishing second in the 100 and third in the 200 to lead the girls to a fifth-place team finish.
Pole vault, long jump and triple jump were not contested due to weather. Meanwhile, Harper (high jump) and Patrick Helmick (800) qualified for states, while Clarence Cartwright (300M hurdles), Michael Johnson (400) and Jordan Showell (800) earned provisional qualifiers.

BOYS START 2-0; GIRLS SPLIT VS. DOVER, POLY
Devon Sivels and Kira Robinson ran state-qualifying time to win the 100 and 200 to help the boys and girls to victories on Tuesday. The boys topped Dover, 102-44, and Polytech, 121-25, while the girls topped Poly, 102-42, and dropped a tough one to Dover, 89-52.
Jason Harper won the triple and high jump and led the Bucs with 26 points, while Shayla Dukes won the 300 hurdles and high jump, qualifed for states in the long jump and add 29.25 points. Dwayne Mason added state qualification in the 100 and 200, while Jalil Davis (200), Dawan Smith (400), Dalton Talley (300 hurdles), Bryan Pettyjohn (110 hurdles) and Kim Richardson (pole vault) also qualified. Brandon Legrand (100, 200), Derrick Strickland (shot put), Davis (long jump) and Talley (110 hurdles) added provisional qualifiers.

BOYS OPEN '09 WITH INVITE WIN AT A.I.; GIRLS FINISH FOURTH
The MHS boys jumpstarted the 2009 season in stunning fashion blazing through the competition at the A.I. Field & Track Relays Friday. The boys swept the sprint relay events and finished runner-up in seven other events. Meanwhile, the girls finished fourth overall led by the first-place shuttle hurdle team of Miranda Spina, Shekinah Brown, Joycelynn Johnson, Kettyde Deravines.

HENLOPEN CHAMPIONS
Congratulations to the boys track team who claimed the Henlopen Conference Indoor Championship Wednesday at Snow Hill. The girls finished 5th overall.
Individual champions included Nick Albert, who set a new school indoor record of 12-feet, 6 inches in pole vault; Bryan Pettyjohn in high jump and Kira Robinson in 55 meters.
Relay champions included the girls 3200-meter relay team of Molly Bliss, Jessica Griffith, Alli Henderson and Tori Cox and the boys' 800-meter relay of Dawan Smith, Dalton Talley, Devon Sivels and Mike Johnson.
Runner-ups included Devon Sivels (55 meters), Dawan Smith (400 meters) and the boys 1600-meter relay of Mike Johnson, Devon Sivels, Clarence Cartwright and Dawan Smith.
Third-place medalists included Patrick Helmick (800 meters), Molly Bliss (800 meters), Dawan Smith (200 meters), Jason Harper (triple jump), Shayla Dukes (long jump and high jump), Miranda Spina (pole vault) and the boys 3200-meter relay of Johnson, Steve Eshelman, Helmick and Jordan Showell.
