LADY VIKINGS WIN PLATINUM DIVISION AT 12TH ANNUAL XENIA PRESEASON TOURNAMENT
Lady Vikings Win Platinum Division
at 12th Annual Xenia Pre-season Tournament
The Lady Vikings proved their resourcefulness adjusting to the early tournament jitters with a mixed squad of underclassman and seniors to prevail and win the Platinum Division of the Xenia H.S. pre-season tournament. Several of the MHS seniors and juniors were not available to play in the tournament as they were attending various college camps around the tri-state area. Many freshman and sophomore players stepped up and filled key positions to prevail with the 2nd Xenia tournament win in the past three years.
The Lady Vikings found the going rough early on with a pair of 3-0 setbacks to Cincinnati Turpin and Springfield Northwestern before settling for a 0-0 tie with Piqua on Saturday. After realignment of brackets for Sundays elimination round the Lady Vikings found their scoring touch by defeating Little Miami and Talawanda 4-0 to advance to the finals. A rematch with Piqua saw the Lady Vikings prevailing for the championship with a 2-1 victory over the Indians.
The tournament while grueling with the high humidity was very beneficial as the coaching staff was very pleased with the adjustments to the defensive alignment after Saturdays games which clearly changed to course of the games. Many of our younger players stepped in and gained valuable experience at the Varsity level this weekend and should assist them as we get closer to the regular season.
Participants on the championship Lady Vikings squad included seniors Macey Riese, Amber Turner, Shelby Stephens, Kari Van Arsdale, Kim Weller, Lexi Robinson along with juniors Alyssa Reule, Jessica Brundage, Christina Murr, Xanthe Atkinson, Mady Meyer. Sophomores Aubree Dobbins, Jade Myers, Destiny McCloskey, Delaney Tufts, Hope Williamson and the freshman supporting cast of Brooklyn Mikesell, Sierra Tacey, Taylor Morningstar, Rachel Gibson, Samantha Stewart and Nico Elkins. Junior Maci Dungan posted three shutouts in goal for the Lady Vikings.

SUCCESSFUL VALLEY VIEW CHALLENGE TOURNEY
Lady Vikings Freshman & Sophomores Team-up
@ Valley View Challenge Tourney
The Freshman and Sophomore Lady Vikings soccer players teamed up for a successful day of competition at the 5th annual Valley View High School Summer Challenge tournament. This tournament was the first opportunity for the coaches to take a look at what the incoming freshman will be bringing to the 2011 squad. Several Sophomores also joined forces to play four (4) very successful games.
All of the players performed very well and the coaching staffed was pleased with the early chemistry of the players. Some of these young ladies have obviously played together in the past which is a plus entering their high school careers as they prepare for the next level of competition.
The 2011 season looks very promising as well as the next several years with the incoming freshman along with the returning supporting cast of players. The Lady Vikings posted a 3-1 record in their four games while outscoring the opponents 10-5. The only loss coming against Preble Shawnees varsity team which touted seven seniors playing versus our young squad. The young lady vikings played step in step with these older girls having many opportunities to score, however the ball did not bounce our way.
