Tryouts - Testing Schedule
The following tests will be administered during the first session of tryouts:
It is highly recommended that each player train in these areas and test themselves weekly.
1. Timed mile - goal is to finish under 6 minutes 30 seconds for varsity and 7:15 for the freshmen team.
2. # of pushups in a row
3. # of situps in 60 seconds
The following 16 tests are from the National Soccer Standards on www.isoccer.org.
There are videos, guides, practices, examples, etc. for these tests. I HIGHLY suggest that ALL players work on these twice per week to prepare for the testing.
5. Toe Taps - 20 seconds
6. Foundations - 20 seconds
7. Juggling - preferred foot only
8. Juggling - non preferred foot only
9. Juggling - head only
10. Change of pace - preferred foot only - 20 seconds
11. Change of pace - non preferred foot only - 20 seconds
12. Change of Direction - 20 seconds
13. First Touch - preferred foot
14. First touch - non preferred foot
15. One touch - preferred foot
16. One touch - non preferred foot
17. Aerial Control
18. Ball Striking
19. Box sprint - 20 seconds
Players will also be evaluated during small sided and large sided games during remaining tryout sessions. Statistics will be kept for each player in the following areas:
1. Goals and Assists in games
2. # of passes completed/lost
3. # of shots on goal/not on goal
4. # of 1v1 battles won/lost
5. # of times kept possesion/lost possession
6. Clears, crosses completed/not completed
Final areas of evaluation:
1. BALL MASTERY - fluency with 1v1 moves, changes of direction, fakes and feints - VERY IMPORTANT!!!
2. Combination play (wall passes, overlaps, etc.)
3. Creative Play
4. Movement off the ball - moving into support position both offensively and defensively
5. Competitiveness, tenacity
6. Work ethic
7. Behavior, attitude, listening
8. Pressure-cover-balance defending
9. Perseverance
