Profile: Coach Kevin Smith begins his sixth season as Head Girls Soccer coach at Mansfield High School. Last season, the girls had the best season in school history finishing in 2nd place in the Hockomock League (1 pt behind the champion Oliver Ames) and having an overall record of 13-3-4 (11-1-4 league). The program has earned the prestigious NSCAA National Team Academic Award and Hockomock Sportsmanship Award 2 of the last 3 seasons. They have a string of 4 consecutive MIAA State Tournament appearances which is the longest such streak in program history. They also have a streak of finishing no worse than 3rd place in the Hockomock League over the last 3 years.

Coach Smith now holds a 44-32-19 career record with the girls and a 45-32-20 overall varsity coaching record (1-0-1 as an interim boys coach). His 44 wins place him first in program history.

Kevin holds the NSCAA Advanced National Coaching Diploma and the USSF National D license and is planning on taking the USSF B license and NSCAA Premier Diploma courses soon. Kevin has spent 5 years as the junior varsity boys coach at MHS and he has been a part of a staff that has turned the boys program into perennial contender. Kevin has also been the Director of Summer Camps for the Essex County United Soccer Club and runs the Hornets Soccer Camp every summer. Kevin also coaches the Division 1 U18 girls club team and the U12 girls team for Nova Soccer Club.

Prior to coming to MHS, Coach Smith spent 2 years coaching at perennial state powerhouse New Providence HS, NJ and 2 years at Northern Valley Regional HS at Old Tappan.

Coach Smith's playing career includes four years at Trenton State College (now the College of New Jersey) where he played in 2 NCAA Final Fours, 1 NCAA Championship game, and 3 NCAA Regional Finals. He was named to the Adidas NCAA all divisions regional Academic All American team in 1994.

His semipro career saw him play 1 year for the German American Kickers Soccer Club and 4 years in the NJ Champions League for the Lotto Real Wyckoff Soccer Club where they won the NJ State Amateur Championship 4 years in a row and advanced to the National Amateur Cup Regional Finals twice and Regional Semifinals twice.
