Mex FC Boys & Mex Rovers Girls: Club History

Mexborough Rovers Girls were Founded in the Summer of 2003/4 when ten local girls attended the clubs kick start scheme. The club entered the newly formed Sheffield & Hallamshire Girls Development League. The girls opening league fixture was a hard fought 2- 2 draw v Bramley Sunnyside, with Emma Oliver scoring the clubs first ever league goal.
At the end of a very successfull campaign the girls clinched the title with a 6-1victory at Millmoor Jnrs to becomes first ever Walker Div U12 League Winners.
Their record read PL 18 W15 D1 L2 a great record at any level.
The following Season 2004/5 the original squad spit into two teams at U12s & U14s with new members joining both teams. Both sides made good progress finishing fourth in their respective leagues and reaching the cup quater finals.
Season 2005/6 saw the U13s move up to the 11aside format enjoying a successful first season. The clubs U11 squad came through a very difficult season to win the Julie Callaghan Fairplay Award. The U13s then took part in the clubs first trip to Wales, competing in the Mitre Cup and finishing the competition as runner up.
Season 2006/7 was the clubs most succesful to date the U12s finished a highly credible 4th in the league and reaching the cup semi finals with leading scorer Emma Fleetwood scoring 33 goals in 18 games. U14s captain Jess Andrew scored 30 goals as she led her team all the way to runners up spot in the League and to the Cup Final where they beat fierce rivals Workop Town 3-2 in a thrilling final, twice coming from behind to snatch victory with a Gabby Axe penalty in the last few minutes. Members of both squads represented the club with distinction at the annual Mitre Cup in Wales.
Mexborough Football Club was founded in May 2007, the U13s joined the senior squad in moving up to the 11aside format. Despite injury problems effecting both squads the U13s finished 3rd in the league and reached the cup quater finals. The U15s also had a good season and rounded it off by taking runner up spot in the annual Mitre Cup tournament in Prestatyn Wales.
Season 2008/9 saw the club enter Girls teams at U14 & U16, both teams struggling with injuries but again performing with distinction. For the first time the club entered a Boys U13 squad in the Millenium Juior League.The U14s ended their season in style by taking the Fair Play Award at the annual Filey Cup in May.
Season 2009/10 will see the club enter U15 Girls & U14 Boys squads.
The Girls will compete as Mexborough Rovers Girls.
The club remains committed to the development of footballers of all ages and abilities, and bringing a safe enjoyable football experience to all our Players, Coaches and Parents.
