WORKBOND POLICY & RELATED ITEMS EXPLAINED
Metuchen Little League is a non-profit organization staffed entirely by volunteers. As such, the League requests all parents to assist in the League operation whenever possible. In our volunteer program each family is required to post a $125 workbond deposit during registration. After completing the requisite service, the family notes their service time on the Workbond Tracking form and submits this to the team parent for their player's team or mails it in to the league's PO Box. After the season, a refund check will be issued to each family who has fulfilled their workbond committment.
To receive a refund, a family must perform at least 9 hours for 2009 season of "work" on Little League activities. Sample activities are serving as a team parent, coach, or manager, field preparation, snack bar duty, etc. A full list of volunteer opportunities is available below.
(NOTE: THE LITTLE LEAGUE CALENDAR YEAR CLOSES ON JULY 31ST AND SO REFUNDS ARE NORMALLY PAID IN LATE SEPTEMBER/EARLY OCTOBER)
The 9 hour refund policy is per family, therefore if 2 family members work in an acceptible activity both of their hours count toward the same total.
An additional requirement for families whose child plays on either Fater or Hoyer Fields is to work at least 1 shift in the snack bar. The only exception is for volunteers who Manage a team.
Snack bar time is awarded as 3 hours per shift and a normal shift is usually only 2 hours of actual time, therefore in many, BUT NOT ALL, situations - a volunteer will work only 2 hours in the Snack Bar and get credit for 3.
The success of our Little League is a result of all the hard work of our volunteers. The Executive Committee of the MLL Board of Directors thanks everyone for their past participation and encourages everyone to get involved to help continue to make our program an enjoyable experience for all our children!
Any questions to this policy can be directed to our Little League e-mailbox metuchen.littleleague@verizon.net.

Little League Baseball Pitch count rules....
Little League Baseball has adopted pitch count rules for the 2008 season to limit the length of time a pitcher may be in a game. Previously, pitchers were limited by the number of innings they had pitched...now they will be limited by the number of pitches they throw.
Details of the new rule can be found at the attached site.

MLL " Where Safety Comes First"
EMERGENCIES: Prior to the start of any game or practice the manager should identify a person in possession of a cell phone. In the event of an emergency that you are not trained to handle 911 should be called immediately.
PRACTICE: Managers should plan their practice ahead of time, then review that plan relative to minimizing the risk of injury. For example proper spacing of players while they are throwing a hard ball.
GAME: Metuchen LL strongly recommends the wearing of mouth guards for all Minor and Major League players. One can be purchased for under $3 at any major sporting goods store and is well worth the investment.
Coaches Field Maintenance Checklist
Coaches, please remember your responsibilities this season include pregame field preparation. This applies to all divisions. The Fields committee has compiled a simple checklist of the tasks required to be completed before each of your games. A copy of the checklist will be posted at each field. Tools are now stored in the equipment sheds at each field location. The coaches from BOTH teams are asked to help complete the work. Let's work together to ensure our fields are safe and properly manicured! If you have any questions, please contact your field coordinator listed on the League Officials tab.

VOLUNTEER POSITIONS ENHANCED...
The all important tasks of Team Manager and Team Parent fall into the category of exempt positions. In this case, exempt means that the person performing this duty does not have to file a work bond form outlining his or her service at the end of the season. these positions have now been enhanced to include some new responsibilities, they are outlined on the download below. If there are any questions, please contact the league by email at the new address on our home page or attend a monthly meeting.
