Rankings After Week 10

5 days until the big day.

Some great football was played yesterday setting the table for what should prove to be a great day at St. Laurence Saturday.  Will Hessville's Pee Wees be able to contain the Lansing machine?  Will Evergreen Park's Widgets be able to exact some revenge for a week 5 loss to Hayes Park?  Will Frankfort Square be able to break Hessville's Junior Super Bowl streak?  Will coach Z get the Pro Bowl jerseys on time?  These questions, and many more will be answered Saturday in Burbank.

Oh, and in case you didn't know who is (and was) good this year at each level - see below...

Pee Wee

1)  Lansing (10-0)  Pee Wee Lions continue to display sheer dominance throughout the playoffs and yesterday was no different.  They hang a 44-20 pasting on a good Blue Island team (trust me - it was never that close) to advance to the Super Bowl where they'll take on #2 Hessville.

2)  Hessville (10-0)  Vipers run themselves to a clean record and a Super Bowl birth with a 32-14 victory over the Mt. Greenwood Colts.  They'll need to put on their big-boy shoes if they want to be hoisting the trophy as they meet the top ranked Lions.

3)  Blue Island (7-3)  Pee Wee Untouchables seem to be the best of the also-rans this year as they used speed in the skill spots to run themselves to a semi-final birth before being defeated by Lansing.  Congrats to the Untouchables on a great year.

4)  Mt. Greenwood (7-3)  Colts Looked strong out of the gate, running themselves to a 6-0 record.  Their final four game schedule proved to be a buzz saw as they dropped 3 of 4, including a semi-final game at the hands of Hessville.  Congratulations to Coach Stark and the Colts on a great year.

5)  Hayes Park (7-2)  Blitz Pee Wees opened some eyes this season, compiling a 7-1 record entering the playoffs before getting knocked off at the hands of Blue Island.  Congratulations to the Blitz on a great year.

On the Cusp:  Frankfort Square (5-3)

Worth a Mention: Summit (5-3), Orland Park (5-3)

Widget

I'm getting to it...

1)  Hayes Park (6-0)  OK Coach Turner - here you go (this guy's so full of himself that when he played at Nebraska, he thought the N on the side of their helmets stood for Nate).  All kidding aside, Widget Blitz look to be the real deal, combining size and speed to run themselves to a clean record.  If they play to their level, they should be in the same shape come season's end.  They travel to Mt. Greenwood Sunday to do battle with the Colts.  (BTW - that stuff about the N on the Nebraska helmet was all in fun - he thought the N was for knowledge)

2)  Hegewisch (5-1)  After an opening week loss, Bulldogs have righted the ship and have yet to lose again.  A tough one this weekend will tell the tale as they play host to the #4 Vipers

3)  Evergreen Park (5-1)  Widget Stallions bounce back from a loss to the top ranked Blitz with a shutout win in Lansing.  They face Palos Sunday at home before travelling to Oak Lawn in week 8.

4)  Hessville (5-1)  Vipers have been steady, with their only loss coming to a good Summit team.  They have two tough ones remaining - the first of which this Sunday in Hegewisch as they take on the #2 Bulldogs.

5)  Frankfort Square (4-2)  Wildcats lose two of last three to #1 Blitz and #3 Stallions  They should secure a playoff spot over the course of the next two weeks.  Lansing Sunday at home.

On the Cusp:  Summit (3-3)

Worth a mention: Oak Lawn (4-2)

Junior

1)  Lansing  (6-0)  Lions still undefeated after week 6.  Toughest test of the year this Sunday as they take on #5 Frankfort Square for what should prove to be the conference championship.

2)  Summit (6-0)  Rebels showing no sign of weakness in the past three weeks.  Blue Island lies in the weeds this Sunday, but I'm sure the Rebels' sights are set on a big week 8 matchup with #4 Burbank.

3)  Hessville (5-1)  In the past two weeks, Vipers dominate Blue Island and outlast Burbank to reclaim the #3 spot.  They'll be a tough out in the playoffs at no lower than a #3 seed.  They face Hegewisch Sunday at Mann Park.

4)  Burbank (5-1)  Even in a 12-0 loss to Hessville, Titan Juniors prove they belong among the league's elite.  They face Orland Park at home Sunday before what shoud be the conference title game in Summit.

5)  Frankfort Square (5-1)  Junior Cats have remained unbeaten since dropping the season opener to Summit.  This team has opened eyes along theway and will look to do the same Sunday as they play host to the top ranked Lions with conference bragging rights on the line.

On the Cusp:  Oak Lawn (4-2)

Worth a mention:  Peotone (3-3), Blue Island (3-3)

Sports Movie Quote of the Week

A shiny new quarter goes to the first person who can correctly name the actor, the role he or she is playing, and the sports movie that contains the following quote (Please post answer on the message board):

Since I've been asleep for three weeks, I'll give you four quotes this week - one from a movie about each of the 4 major sports (Football, Baseball, Hockey, Basketball (My apologies to Hessville - I still don't consider Nascar or WWE to be major sports)

#1  (Just name the coach)

"Every ex-player turned coach says that they prefer coaching over playing. Why would they all say that?"
"Because they can't play."

#2 (Just name the kid)

"Hey ump, how 'bout a warning?"
"Sure, kid. Watch out you don't get killed"

#3

"OH! Somebody's holding a pound of Aunt Betty's nut butter, and that's a live ball!"

#4

“Everybody panic! Oh my God, there's a bear loose in the coliseum! There will be no refunds! Your refund will be escaping this deathtrap with your life! If you have a small child, use it as a shield! They love the tender meat! Cover your sodas! Dewie loves sugar!”

(Highly recommended) Song Playing on Coach Z's IPod Right Now:

Shiny new quarter to the first person who can give me a line from the following song (once again - use the message board):

My goodness - I'm getting countryfied (must have been all that time I spent with the cast of Hee-Haw a couple weeks ago)

"Toes" by the Zac Brown Band

"The winners in life think constantly in terms of I can, I will, and I am. Losers, on the other hand, concentrate their waking thoughts on what they should have or would have done, or what they can't do." - Dennis Waitley
