MERSEY U11 GALAXY WIN CYSA DISTRICT 2'S GOLD DIVISION SPRING CUP

In an amazing display of persistence and will, the upstart Mersey Galaxy U11 won two close battles on Sunday to bring home first place medals!
After finishing 1-1 on the first day, the Mersey Galaxy won their Sunday morning game vs. the SCC Breakers 4 - 3 in a seesaw battle. The Breakers scored in the first minute, the Galaxy answered in the second minute, and then the Breakers added another and led 2 - 1 at half-time. In the second half, the Galaxy fought hard, tied it 2 - 2, went ahead 3 - 2, and held on for the victory.
Simultaneously, on the adjacent field, the Central Valley Earthquakes Red held off the SF Mission Green by a score of 3 - 1 putting the Galaxy into the final vs. Central Valley.
Central Valley scored first on a beautifully executed cross from the left corner to a jumping header near the far post. Minutes later, the Earthquakes added a second via a high cross from the same corner over a crowded goal mouth that resulted in an own goal.
Shortly before the half, Mersey got its offense in gear and netted a goal on a three-man attack combination. The Galaxy trailed 2 - 1 at half-time.
In the second half, Mersey again demonstrated its skill and speed on the counter-attack by sending a striker long for two breakaway goals. The Galaxy played smart, patient defense and held its 3 - 2 lead until the final whistle.
Coach Cameron Parkinson proudly distributed the first place hardware to a tired but very happy group of boys, lauding each one's effort over the course of the weekend.

| U12 Raiders Win Division! |
Four Mersey teams participated in the late fall 2009-10 indoor soccer season at the Bladium in Alameda and all made it to their division playoffs held in mid-January!! Congratulations to the teams and special congratulations to the U8 Raiders and the U12 Raiders for their first place finishes and the U9 Wizards for their second place finish.

GALAXY U10 FINISH SECOND IN 11TH ANNUAL TRICK OR TREAT CLASSIC:
Congratulations to the Mersey Galaxy U10 boys teams for their hard fought second place finish in the 11th Annual Kick or Treat Classic hosted by the Diablo Futbol Club on October 24-25, 2009. After some challenging pool play, the Galaxy advanced to the semi-finals by winning a penalty kick shoot out. They then played a 0-0 first half in the final before finally running out of energy and succumbing to the host team. A good time was had by all and in keeping with the Halloween spirit, the team went to the tournament in full Halloween regalia.
