Welcome to the cyber home of the Meriden YMCA Seals youth swim team, and the Meriden Masters adult swim club.
The Meriden YMCA Seals are a youth swim team that compete in both the Yankee Cluster YMCA Swim League and also have a division which also competes in Connecticut USA Swimming. The Seals offer three unique levels of competition. For swimmers and families with time constraints we offer the bronze program. At this level swimmers are required to attend practice at least twice a week and participate in a limited number of swim meets (3 in the winter, 1 in the summer). This can also be good for new swimmers trying out the sport, however every swimmer on the team is more than capable and always welcome to participate in all swim meets at the next level of competition. The second level of competition and most popular is our silver level. The silver swimmers are required at practice a minimum of three days a week and participate in all YMCA swim meets (8 in the winter, 4 in the summer). The third level of competition is only open to swimmers 11 and over and with a coaches recommendation. This is called the gold level and swimmers are required to attend practice at least three times a week, but are encouraged to practice all five days. These swimmers have two hour practices and beginning this summer will be spending time each summer practicing at Wesleyan University three nights a week in a 50 meter pool. These swimmers also have a dryland component two nights a week. As mentioned above our program also has a USA swimming component. This is open to all swimmers at the silver and gold levels of competition who are interested in competing in more swim meets. USA swimming offers an opportunity for more competitions at a swimmers individual level and a wider variety of events to swim than the traditional YMCA format. The main focus of the Meriden YMCA Seals however is to build strong, healthy swimmers while cultivating the YMCA core values of honesty, respect, caring and responsibility. This is done through character building through the sport of swimming. We not only practice and compete together but hold many fundraising and team building events outside of practice.
