Akron Merchants: Welcome

|
Welcome to the cyber-home of the Akron Merchants, a member of the MUNY AA Mens Senior Baseball League. The Merchants were founded in 2000 as a youth program for older teens and expanded in 2003 to include our mens senior team. The "junior" Merchants remain in existence today as a summer developmental team for the Akron Central varsity program, participating in the Lockport Midget A Baseball League. The Merchants moniker dates back to the 1950's and the Village of Akron's franchise in the old Buffalo News Suburban Baseball League. With financial sponsorship from one sole entity unfeasible in a small rural town, multiple local businesses and service organizations were solicited to purchase a single uniform each. Unfortunately the original Merchants folded in 1982, after several years of roster turnover and player shortages. The 2000 return of the Merchants utilized the same financing concept however. In our nine years of existence, 35 local businesses, service organizations, and professionals have lent support to Akron Merchants baseball. The Candy Apple Cafe, American Legion Post #900, MR Middaugh, and the Ballow Law Firm have been members of the Merchants sponsorship team since 2000. Greg Bell, a member of the original Merchants from 1976-82, acts as manager of both the "junior" and "senior" Merchants.
