WELCOME TO THE MERCENARIES RUGBY CLUB WEBSITE! The Mercenaries Rugby Clubs consist of the South Bend Clay Mercenaries HS Rugby (U-19 Boys) and the South Bend Lady Mercenaries HS Rugby (U-19 Girls) as a multi-school rugby club. Both teams compete in the Indiana Rugby Football Union state tournaments and the RUGBY INDIANA state based organization.
Rugby is a club sport, operating under the guidance of the United States Rugby and the International Rugby Board. Rugby is a contact sport, which requires the endurance of soccer, the tackling skills of football and the teamwork of basketball. Rugby is played in over 92 countries world wide. There are 27 boys high school teams in Indiana and 17 girls teams. Rugby is played on close to 500 college campuses in the U.S. with 8 Indiana campuses offering men's rugby and 4 local colleges offering women's rugby.
MISSION STATEMENT:
- The Mercenaries Rugby Club is dedicated to promote and foster the growth of rugby through development of youth programs and elite level competition.
- To provide leadership, discipline, accountability, and good character through life learning situations both on and off the rugby pitch.
- To gain insight on valuable community involvement and teach the philosophy of teamwork and sportsmanship in all aspects of the game.
- To enjoy the wonderful sport of rugby and the life-long camaraderie and friendships accrued.

Both the S.B. Mercenaries & Lady Mercenaries went undefeated during the Midwest Tournament & Festival Championship on May 2 & 3. Both teams have also made it to the 2009 INDIANA RUGBY STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS.
