The Memphis Royals are a semi-pro baseball team, consisting of current and ex-college players, and also several ex-professionals.
The Royals compiled a 38-9 record during the 2008 season, winning both the regular season and tournament championships in the Germantown Adult League. The Royals also played in the ASPBA World Series in Hattiesburg, Mississippi for the third straight year.
In the team's 26-year history, the Royals have won one NABF regional championship (2003), two AABC Southeast Regional Runnersup (1993, 1996), seven AABC Stan Musial State Championships(1993, '95, '97, '01, ‘04, '06, '07), and thirteen league titles ('92-'00, '05-'08). In 1999, the Royals had a 67-1 record (winning the first 55 games), and won two major tournaments - the United States Baseball Congress Semi-Pro World Series (at Evansville, Indiana), and the Universal Baseball "Global Championships" (at USA Stadium, Millington, Tenn.).

ROYALS DEFEAT BLACK SOX FOR USBC TITLE
The Memphis Royals defeated the Hattiesburg Black Sox 10-7 in the championship game of the United States Baseball Congress World Series on Sunday afternoon at Smokie Harrington Park in Hattiesburg. It was the second USBC title for the Royals (the other was in 1999). The Royals improved to 30-4 on the season while the Black Sox fell to 36-3.
After giving up an unearned run in the first inning, the Royals plated nine runs in the top of the second to take a 9-1 lead. Hunter Dawson led off the inning with a double, followed by a walk to Austin Moody and a Black Sox error (which scored Dawson with the Royals' first run.) Key plays in the inning were Kyle Hobar's perfect bunt down the third base line which loaded the bases and two-run singles by Alan Wright and Jesse Brooks. Brooks, who went 3 for 4, also doubled in the fourth and led off the seventh with his fourth home run of the season.
Winning pitcher Stephen Kirkpatrick improved to 4-1 in his best outing of the season. Kirkpatrick allowed only one unearned run on three hits through five innings. After the Black Sox made the score 9-4 on a three-run homer by Michael Lindsey, Kirkpatrick was replaced on the mound by Kyle Lewis, who pitched the final two innings. The Royals also played excellent defense, highlighted by outstanding plays by shortstop Zac Mitchell, third baseman Chris Mitchell, and centerfielder Michael Ferguson.
The Royals reached the championship game by defeating the Meridian Braves 14-4 on Friday and the Fort Worth Mariners 6-5 and the Hattiesburg Black Sox 10-2 on Saturday. Top hitters in the tournament for the Royals were Brooks (8 for 14, 7 RBI, double, triple, HR), Lewis (8 hits, 8 RBI, double, inside the park HR), Z. Mitchell (7 for 15, 2 doubles, 4 SB), Dawson (6 for 12, 5 RBI, 2 doubles, 2 triples), and C. Mitchell (6 for 16, 7 RBI, double, triple). Winning pitchers in the Royals' first three games were Zane Adams (vs. Meridian), Wes Grilliette (vs. Dallas), and Ivan Nails (vs. Hattiesburg - 7 IP, 2 ER, 8 k's).
