Reed committs to the University of Tennessee

Summer visit sells pitcher on UT

The right-handed pitcher from Tulsa, Okla., committed this week to play baseball at the University of Tennessee.

"I played there this summer with my summer team (Georgia Roadrunners) and I got a chance to meet all the coaches," Reed said. "I liked them a lot, especially (pitching coach) Fred Corral.

"A couple of my buddies (Cody Stubbs, 1B, Tuscola, N.C., High School and Chris Fritts, OF, Cypress Ridge, Texas) have already committed there and it seemed like the right fit."

Reed picked the Vols ahead of North Carolina, Clemson, Georgia Tech, OSU, Arkansas and Oral Roberts.

He's rated one of the top 100 pitching prospects in the 2009 class and one of the top players coming out of Oklahoma.

"Coach Corral (a former assistant at the University of Oklahoma) really knows what he's doing," Reed said. "He's really relaxed and I like his approach to pitching strategy. He knows what he's talking about."

Reed is 6-foot-2, 200 pounds and has a fastball clocked in the low 90 miles-per-hour range.

He competed this past summer in the East Coast Pro showcase and the Area Code showcase - two of the main events put on by pro scouts.
