GETTING AS MANY INNINGS IN AS POSSIBLE - Tips from the league...
To help play as many innings as possible in the alloted amount of time, I want to encourage everyone to do the following:
1. Come to the game prepared with a batting order complete with girls' names and numbers and a fielding rotation. Since we have rules regarding the innings that girls play, a fielding rotation is not a courtesy but expected so that all parties can be sure that the rotations meet our rules. Come with at least 3 copies: 1 for the umpire, 1 for the opposing coach, and 1 for yourself. Use the fielding rotation to get your girls to their defensive position quickly.
2. Have someone help with getting the catcher ready early. The rules allow say 2 minutes between innings and half innings. I have never seen this enforced and it almost always takes quite a bit longer. Let's make a point to get our defense on the field.
3. Lastly, don't spend too much time giving instructions on mechanics or skills. Practice is the time to work on mechanics and skills. Game time is time for the girls to use the skills they have to the best of their ability. Don't misintepret this to mean not to coach. We just want to make sure we are not spending too much time working on mechanics during a game.
