2013 Melrose HammerHeads 10 Year Anniversary
Since 2004, Melrose has sent a team of young baseball players to the American Youth Baseball Hall of Fame at Field of Dreams Park in Cooperstown, New York each Summer. This year's HammerHeads consist of 11 and 12 year-olds from each of the three Melrose Little Leagues who will compete against 100 other teams from across the U.S. and Canada in a week long tournament in July 2013.
The HammerHeads started so a few kids could play competitive baseball but it has turned into something far more than that. In addition to providing young ball players with a once in a lifetime opportunity to spend a week at Dreams Park the program has also become well known for its many charitable contributions to our community. In prior years the HammerHeads have donated to The Danny Williams/Jimmy Fund charity, the Pan Am Challenge, all three Melrose Little Leagues, the Babe Ruth program, the Melrose High School Baseball team and local families in need. In Addition, the HammerHeads also award an annual $1,000 college scholarship to a former HammerHead player.
The 2013 team has been announced and the families are working hard to raise funds both to send the team to Cooperstown and to continue the team's charitable activities. The team is holding its annual fundraising Gala on Friday, May 17, 2013 at Memorial Hall in Melrose featuring Jim Plunkett. Please consider sponsoring the Gala, making a donation or purchasing a ticket so this year's players (Jared Crowell, Dillon Kaliris, Ryan Long, Liam Crovo, Patrick Coen, Tommy Callahan, Adam Bain, Michael Muscarella, Cam MacKenzie, Harry Kelley and Luke Pashoian) can fulfill their baseball dreams.
To purchase tickets, you may contact the family of any of the players listed above directly, or visit our website at www.melrose-hammerheads.com
