TONDORF/SIZZLER Call Backs
MYB Parents/Players:
Please see the attached file for a listing of players called back for a second tryout following the open tryout. The full selection process for all these teams will be a combination of the tryout evaluations and Manager input/voting. All candidates that have advanced to the second tryout will receive a letter advising as to whether or not they were chosen for a team when the process is complete.
Callbacks - 11-year olds – Wednesday May 23rd
It is very important that all parents/players understand the way each of these tournaments is run and the commitment required to be a member of one of these teams. The MYB Board understands that other activities including vacations and other baseball programs such as AAU can compete with these tournaments. However, in order to be fair to all involved the attendance guidelines must be agreed/adhered to in order to play on one of these teams. Please refer to the Tournament overviews available in the MYB Yearbook or on the MYB website (www.medwayyouthbaseball.com) under “Handouts” for a full description and commitment details. It is extremely important you read and understand this information before your child attends the tryout.
*NOTE:
1. This year, we will be fielding 8 teams – two in each age division (9, 10, 11, 12).
2. Please remember that once again the Upper Charles Summer League will also be available for any players who choose not to tryout for Tondorf or Sizzler and for those who are not placed on a team. The Upper Charles Summer Baseball League is an inter-town league (weekdays only) focused on fun and building skills. This is also a good option for those players unable to make the dedicated summertime commitment to the Tondorf or Sizzler teams.
3. Players that are “Playing up” with their grade (late birthdays in May, June, July and August) must only tryout for that age group.

Medway Youth Baseball Summer Tournaments/Leagues - 2012
Medway Youth Baseball offers four opportunities for interested players to continue to play baseball in the summer: the Tondorf Tournament hosted by Medway Youth Baseball, the Summer Sizzler hosted by Hopkinton Little League, the Upper Charles River Baseball League, and the Farm Summer League.
Tondorf Tournament
The Tondorf Tournament runs from June 21 through July 19 (practices begin earlier). The tournament is comprised of seven surrounding towns and Medway, playing in 4 age divisions (9, 10, 11 and 12). The Medway teams will have 12 players. Each team plays 10 games and at least 1 playoff game. The 9-year-old division plays on Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights and Saturday mornings. The 10, 11 and 12 year old divisions play on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. There will be NO games for all ages on July 3 and 4. Most Tondorf games are played at the Cassidy complex but some of the games will be played away from Medway.
Players for the Tondorf teams will be chosen by a combination of an on-field skills assessment and a vote of the League managers. Multiple on-field sessions will be conducted. The first tryout is in early May. Additional details will be posted on the Cassidy Concession stand and on the MYB website. We understand that families have vacation plans during the tournament timeframe. However, due to the brevity of the tournament, players are asked to make a firm commitment to playing a minimum of 7 of 10 games.
Summer Sizzler Tournament
The Summer Sizzler schedule is not yet available but the timeframe is approximately the same as Tondorf (it may end a week later). Most games are played in Hopkinton on weekdays and weekends. New in 2012, Sizzler will be split in four age divisions (9, 10, 11 and 12). Medway will enter one team in each division. Each team will play about 10 games and playoffs. Each Medway team will consist of 12 players. The Sizzler teams will be selected primarily from players who receive Tondorf consideration.
Players in the Tondorf and Sizzler tournaments are asked to pay an entry fee. Each player receives a game shirt, a T-shirt and a participation trophy from MYB, and hopefully a championship trophy from the tournament.
Upper Charles Baseball League
This recreational league was started in 2006 and has been a resounding success in offering additional opportunities for kids to play baseball. The league consists of 9/10 and 11/12 age teams and is open to all age eligible players. Teams play a 10-12 game schedule starting in late June and ending in early August. Games are played on weekdays only. For those players unable to commit to the weekend requirements of Tondorf and Sizzler, the UCBL would be a great option. Players will pay an entry fee.
Farm Summer League
This recreational league started in 2008 with over 40 MYB Farm League players participating. The league provides a fun and rewarding opportunity to continue to play baseball for kids that are not yet old enough for the other summer league options. The league consists of one or more Farm League age teams and is open to all age eligible players. Teams play a 10-12 game schedule starting in late June and ending in early August. Games are played on weekdays only. Players will pay an entry fee. This league does involve travel to area towns (Upton, Mendon, Hopedale, Northbridge)
Parents may address any Tondorf and Sizzler questions to MYB President Rob Faichney or MYB Tournament Director Seth Shulman and any Upper Charles River League and Farm Summer League questions to Director Derrick Plunkett. Alternatively, they may send an email to medwayyb@yahoo.com.

At this time, MYB, will not be following the Little League moratorium on composite bats in the in-town leagues. This includes the Tondorf tournament. However, the Sizzler tournament run by Hopkinton, will be implementing this moratorium. We will revisit this decision in the future. MYB is not a member of Little League International.
Information:
On December 30th, 2010, Little League International placed a moratorium on the use of composite bats in the all baseball divisions of Little League. The decision was based on "The maximum performance standard for non-wood bats in the divisions for 12-year-olds and below is a Bat Performance Factor (BPF) of 1.15. The research found that composite bats, while they may meet the standard when new, can exceed that standard after a break-in process.”
The moratorium on composite bats only applies to composite-barreled bats. Bats that have only a metal/alloy in the barrel (and no other material, unless it is in the end cap of the bat) are not subject to the moratorium, regardless of the composition of the handle.
Medway Youth Baseball adoption (T-Ball through Majors):
For Regular season - The bat shall not be more than thirty-three (33) inches in length nor more than two and one-quarter (2¼) inches in diameter. Non-wood bats shall be labeled with a BPF (bat performance factor) of 1.15 or less; For Tondorf we follow the same rule.
For sizzler – If the bat is 100% composite, the bat must also be on the little league list http://www.littleleague.org/learn/equipment/licensedcompositebats.htm
There are gloves, clothes, bats, etc at the lost and found at Cassidy field. If you left something at Cassidy, please come take a look.
