The Marlton Tornadoes' and Medford Strikers Tornadoes' five year journey, from 1999/U-9 to 2004/U-13, is filled with wonderful memories, from our days in the South Jersey Girls Soccer League's (SJGSL) Olympic Division, then on to Jersey Area Girls Soccer (JAGS) and to Mid-Atlantic Premier Soccer (MAPS).
It was a rewarding experience, playing the best competition in NJ and the Northeastern United States. Thank you to our fans, competitors, coaches, parents, volunteers, sponsors and PLAYERS for making it all possible.
We made unbelievable history on November 4th, 2001 when we earned the title of New Jersey U-11 State Champions! Exemplary commitment and teamwork from a great group of girls! It was a season to remember! Congratulations once again to the 2001 Medford Strikers Tornadoes.

You could say the Medford Strikers Tornadoes took the long way to their first State Cup championship. After advancing from the quarterfinals and the semifinals of the Under-11 Girls tournament with penalty-kick victories, the Tornadoes went into overtime again in the final (Sunday Nov. 4th) against their South Jersey rival, the Hamilton Crush. This time, they avoided the dreaded tiebreaker and won, 1-0, on a goal by Kristen Forster in the fourth minute of the second 10-minute extra session. "We were one of those teams that could have gotten here, but there were 10 or 12 teams in our age group that could have won this," Tornadoes coach Keith Forster -- Kristen's dad -- said after the victory yesterday in Fort Dix.
On Saturday (the semi-final), the Tornadoes needed a goal from forward Dana Grimes with less than a minute remaining in the overtime (State Cup rules do not provide for sudden-death overtime) to force the penalty tiebreaker against the Allendale Americans Invincibles. Against Hamilton, Kristen Forster admitted she had believed the game was headed for kicks again as regulation and then the first overtime passed without any goals being scored. But then Laura Kurash sent a long ball into the right side of the penalty box that eluded the reach of Hamilton goalkeeper Lauren Smedley, and Forster was there to control it and slip it into the vacant net for the game-winning goal. "It was just a 'hustle' goal," Keith Forster said. "I've got 16 kids on the roster and every one of them played their hearts out -- they just wouldn't quit." The goal actually came somewhat against the run of play, as Hamilton had more ball possession throughout the game and had more goal-scoring opportunities.
The game saw both teams going hard in their first State Cup final, and several players on both sides had to leave the game at times with various injuries. But the physical play had nothing to do with any enmity between the teams -- in fact, all the players were familiar with each other from playing together in the same league, and there was a healthy respect for each other. Hamilton coach Jason Gresko, in fact, pointed out that three of the four semifinalists in the Under-11 age group (the Washington Township Smashers was the fourth) all play in the same league (South Jersey Girls Soccer League). "It says something about South Jersey," Gresko said.
