Cliff O'Connor, Huskies
O'Connor was known as a fierce player, especially at NT where he could hold his own against anyone. A former soccer standout who converted to football, O'Connor had great speed in his 20's and was a rugged and avid RB. Later moving to the DL he often showed his strength and skill by being a major impact in every game he played. He often anchored the Huskies defense, which contributed to their successful seasons.
Mitchell, so impressed with O'Connors play named the league MVP award after him.

Dave "Bulldog" Mitchell v Kevin "Nasty" Nelson
In the 1998 State Playoffs, Mitchell's record year was put on the line against long time grizzled veteran Kevin Nelson. although Mitchell had a good day with 2 TD's, 0 Int's and over 250 yards passing, it was Nelson who eventually picked apart the Huskies defense late in the second half and completed the day with 4 TD's, as the Chiefs prevailed 28-14.
"Those guys (Chiefs) built character over their first few seasons as a franchise and have been in the upper echelon of 9-man the last decade. They are cohesive and believe in each other. Most important, they are like a close family and trust one another on both sides of the ball. Even when they have breakdowns, they often find a way and comeback and win, sometimes by pure determination alone. Every team can learn from this and should study them if they want to be better." said Dave Mitchell.
