FREDERICK CHALLENGER LL PLAYS BEFORE 5000 AT LL WORLD SERIES
The Frederick Challenger LL All Stars had a great time yesterday at Howard J. Lamade Stadium in Williamsport, PA at the LL World Series. Playing before an estimated 5000 people and over 200 people from Maryland District 2 the 15 young boys and girls that made up the team played a team from Peachtree City GA's Field of Hope LL. The teams played two innings with each child batting twice. ABC Television videod the event and a tape will be presented to the league.
Phillip Shepard forever will be known as the first batter to hit a HOMERUN in the Challenger Fun Game at the Little league World Series. His hit traveled about 215 feet over the left center field fence. His homerun ball was signed by Herald Reynolds and presented to him by his mother and District 2 Administrator Gregg Quedeweit. All the kids had a great day. It was a long day having left from Frederick on 2 buses at 8:30 am and not arriving at home till after 10pm but the experience is something that these kids will never forget.
A very big thank you goes out to all the sponsors who helped defray the cost of this trip and to all the District 2 fans that attended the game.I believe I can say that District 2 with about 200 people in attendance had more fans in Williamsport Saturday than any other district in the world. To the volunteers, manager, coaches and buddies thank you from District 2 for your full support of the Challenger program.
