Dear Parents and Wrestlers,
The Lions Wrestling Club is ready to start the new season and we are looking forward to another great season of wrestling and competition. We believe that we have addressed the biggest area of concern that parents have voiced over the years: the lack of an adequate number of practice partners. It seemed like our kids wrestle the same person practice after practice. This makes it difficult to improve their technique and their level of conditioning. With the larger pool of wrestlers we had last season, we were able to switch wrestling partners and keep things fresh for the kids. We will hold all practices at Langley HS this season. We will not be able to use McLean's wrestling room this year because the High School wrestling team will hold their practices from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
Practice days and times for the different groups are as follows:
We will hold two special practices for beginner Junior, Intermediates and Senior wrestlers (ages 9 to 14) on Tuesday, November 11 and Thursday, November 13 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm (both nights) at Langley HS.
We will hold our All Team practice and parents meeting on Sunday, November 16, 2008 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Langley High School's Main Gym. All wrestlers will practice together.
Bantam/Midgets – Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at Langley High School starting on Monday, November 17, 2008.
Juniors, Intermediates and Seniors - Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 - 8:30 pm at Langley High School starting on Tuesday, November 18, 2008.
Please note that when the Fairfax County schools are closed for holidays, we will not have wrestling practice. If there are student holidays and the schools are open, we will hold our practice as usual.
The ongoing dedication shown by our wrestling coaches is second to none. They are all ready to teach your wrestlers more technique and work with them to reach their full potential.
I would also like to mention the Knights wrestling program. As our kids progress in their wrestling ability and competitive interest, they will have the opportunity to move on to the next level of competition. The Knights are a part of the Capitol Area Wrestling League and wrestle as a team, have weight classes and compete against other area teams in a dual meet format. They also use the whole mat for the match instead of a corner of a mat!
The Knights will have their practices on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 - 8:30 pm at Langley HS, McLean HS and O’Connell.
Please feel free to contact Ed at 703-379-7663 or Gary at 703-759-5821 if you have any questions about the new program. Registration for the Lions Wrestling Club opens in October at www.MYathletics.org.
Sincerely,
Ed Ryan and Gary Kaihara
