Mayde Creek will start the 2009 football season with a special road trip.  The Rams will play Brenham in one of the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Classic games at San Antonio’s Alamodome Aug. 29.  The game is one of the highlights on the 2009 schedule of all six KISD football teams announced this week.
     The Texas Football Classic games are put on every year in conjunction with Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine as a high school extravaganza to kick off the season.  They are held over three days with 10 of the top teams invited from all over the state playing five games. Cinco Ranch played San Antonio Reagan at the Classic last year.
     “It’s a special game to play in,” Mayde Creek coach Lance Carter said. “I took teams to it when I was with Texas City and La Marque.  “It’s great to be in it for Mayde Creek, our kids and our fans as well as Katy ISD in general.”
Brenham is coming off an 8-5 season in which the Cubs went to the Class 4A regional finals before losing last year.  Mayde Creek went to the Class 5A playoffs for the second straight time last year, losing to Strake Jesuit in the first round.
     “This (Classic) game is kind of like a playoff atmosphere,” Carter said. “You’re going into an unfamiliar stadium and playing a good team. We’re hoping it can help spell success later in the season for us.”
