Moss Bluff Jrs. Recap:

Moss Bluff faced their toughest test of the tourney Saturday morning against an opponent they had previously defeated 22-6, in wet and very cold conditions.  Moss Bluff took the their opening drive to inside the 10 yard line behind the strong running of Josh Johnson.  However the Hitman defense stiffened and on 4th and goal from about the 7 stuffed the Broncos on a broken play.

For the remainder of the 1st half neither team could produce much on offense with the game being primarily played on the Lake Charles side of the 40.  Lake Charles dropped into a 6-1 for most of the half which was allowing their linebacker and a strong safety they were stacking untop of the linebacker to fill and make plays.  Hats off to both #2 and #89 as they came and shut the Broncos down most of the day.  The half time score was 0 - 0.

In the second half it was more of the same with both sides defenses shutting down the others offense.   With about 8 minutes left in the game the Broncos second drive stalled on the Lake Charles 30.  Where on 1-10 the Lake Charles ran off tackle with #34 and 50 yards and a couple of broke tackles later the Hitman were on the board.  The Broncos defense stiffened on the 2 pt. conversion, leaving the score at 6-0.

The Broncos started their next drive on the their on 30 yard line and found some success with passing as the opened up with a screen to Nick Corbello from Tanner Littleton for approximately 7 yds.  And later in the drive on a long 4th down play Tanner Littleton play actioned passed to a wide open Josh Rome on the sidelines for 15 yd gain bringing the Broncos to just inside the Lake Charles 20 yd line.  However the Lake Charles defense stiffened with as the Broncos threw two incompletions and were unsuccessful on two running plays.

The Lake Charles Hitman took the ball over with just under 5 minutes to play.  It was a three and out for the hitman and the Broncos managed to get the ball back with about 4 minutes left.  The Broncos on the first play of the next series ran a reverse pass with Jake Cochran throwing a very nice pass to Josh Johnson for about 30 yds down to inside the 15 yd line of the Hitman, a unsportsmanlike penalty on Johnson (for spiking the ball at the end of the play) brought it the ball back to just inside the 30.  The broncos managed to drive down to inside the 5 yd line behind the running of Josh Johnson, but was unable to punch it in as the Hitman defense stiffened.

The Hitman took over on the 2 yd line and on 2nd down 11 tried to play action pass with the QB rolling to his right with the WR (only person in route) covered the QB tried to tuck and run, but Andrew Aucoin playing left CB made an excellent tackle and tackled the QB for a safety.  With 2:20 left in the game the score was Hitman  6 Broncos 2.

After the Broncos received the kick the Broncos offense kicked it into gear and marched down (as they were aided by a pass interference penalty on the Hitman FS) the field scoring on two consecutive trap plays off tackle by Josh Johnson with 30 seconds remaining.  The Broncos then missed the 2 point conversion on as Tanner Littleton just missed a wide open Josh Rome in the corner of the end zone.  Making the score Broncos 8 - Hitman 6.

The Broncos defense shutdown the hitman on 4 consecutive plays to end the game.  Good job and congratulations to the Jr. Broncos.
