General Soccer Information

The Mayo Athletic Association soccer program offers players the opportunity to play in the Fall and Spring season. MAA promotes fair play, good sportsmanship, fundamental skill, and all around good fun for players. MAA plays by Anne Arundel County Youth Sports League Rules, including minimum play time standards. All coaches and assistant coaches have updated background checks and must attend annual coaches’ clinics.

If you'd like to submit articles or pictures on your team or game, please send them to the Webmaster. Any pictures submitted need to be in the .jpg or .gif format.

Teams

Teams are grouped by age levels:

Clinic Soccer: Clinic soccer is available in the Fall for children ages 5-7. Clinic teams are co-ed and broken down into two age groups: Junior clinic for ages 5-6, and senior clinic for ages 6-7. Children must be 5 years old by August 1.

County Soccer: County soccer is available in the Spring for children ages 8-14 and in the Fall for children ages 8-17. County soccer teams are grouped based on the child's age as of August 1 of that year (players must be 8 to play county soccer). Children are allowed to “play up” in an older age group, but may not play in a younger age group.

Please note that the Mayo Athletic Association soccer program does its best to group players in their appropriate age group, but based on the number of registrations, roster maximums, and skill levels, some players may be grouped differently as necessary.

Equipment Required

Clinic players are required to wear shin guards. Cleats are recommended, but athletic shoes are acceptable.

County players are required to wear soccer cleats, shin guards, and a mouth guard if he or she wears braces and/or an orthodontic appliance. Players must provide their own shin guards and approved soccer cleats. A Mayo Athletic Association county soccer uniform is also required and is provided with a refundable deposit that is returned when the uniform is given back to the coach in good condition at the end of the season.

Fall and Spring Seasons

Fall Season: The Fall soccer season runs from September - November. Clinic and county soccer is available in the fall for children ages 5-17.

Spring Season: The Spring soccer season usually starts in March. Spring soccer is county-level only for children ages 8-14. It is generally more relaxed and less competitive than the Fall season and a great way to handle Spring Fever, stay in shape, and introduce kids to the world of soccer. Spring soccer games are played on Sunday afternoons.
