General Basketball Information
MAA PLAYS ACCORDING TO ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY RULES. The Mayo Athletic Association basketball program promotes fair play, skill development, good sportsmanship, and fun. Games for county boys and girls generally start the first or second week of December, and clinic basketball starts soon after that. Clinic basketball is for children ages 5-7 (co-ed), and county basketball is for children ages 8-14 (boys and girls). For county basketball, the age the child is on September 1 determines the age level they will play for that season. For clinic basketball, the age the child is on December 1 determines the age level they will play. TEAMS County teams are grouped according to age and skill. For county, age is determined by the child's age as of September 1 of that year. County players are never allowed to play down in a younger age group. County teams are split into divisions, which include A, B, B+, B- and C, with A being the most competitive. Division assignments are determined by the commissioner. Our goal is to maximize play time for all individuals. Anne Arundel County mandates that all players play at least 25% of every game. EQUIPMENT REQUIRED Your child will be required to wear a mouth guard if they wear braces and/or an orthodontic appliance. A Mayo Athletic Association county basketball uniform is also required. At the end of the season, the uniform must be turned in clean and in good condition. Warm-up suits and Mayo Athletic Association apparel are also available for an additional cost. See Mayo Apparel on the home page for details. Your purchase of these items helps the association maintain the facilities and pay for the little extras, like seasonal get-togethers, plaques, and trophies. All players and parents are required to sign and turn in a contract at the beginning of each season. You can download the contract by clicking Forms/Schedules on the menu sidebar. |
