Joey is a catcher for the Tar Heel club baseball team.
EAST MECKLENBURG HIGH:
2005 (Senior)
Joey was the starting catcher for the Eagles. Joey finished with a .253 average (21-83) and 3 HR's. A team co-captain, he received the Eagle Award. The Eagles finished 16-12, playing in the conference championship game for the 3rd straight year. The Eagles advanced to the state playoff round of 16.
2004 (Junior)
Joey was the starting catcher for the East Meck Varsity, helping them to the SW4A Championship game. Joey batted .270 (19-70) on the season. Joey was selected as the Most Valuable Hitter in the Shelby Easter Tournament. Joey received the Gatorade Will to Win Award.
2003 (Sophomore)
Joey was a starter at Catcher & DH for the East Meck Varsity, helping them win the SW4A Conference championship. Joey finished the season with a .350 average.
2002 (Freshman)
Joey was a back up catcher on the varsity team as a freshman. Joey was selected as a Rookie of the Year, finishing with a .300 batting average.

2004 MATTHEWS COUGARS:
Joey batted .339 (21-62) for the Cougars.
2003 CHARLOTTE RHINOS:
Joey batted .242 for the Rhinos 18u select team, helping them win the AABC regular season championship.
2002 COUGARS:
Joey helped the Cougars win a State Championship and earn a World Series berth. He finished the season batting .388.
2001 COUGARS:
Joey moved back to catcher in the fall and provided good leadership to the team. Joey had a .350 batting average and stole 17 bases. Joey hit a home run against the Titans as part of a 3 hit day. Joey was 6-12 in the AABC State Championship.
2000 COUGARS:
Joey finished the Spring season with a .291 batting average and managed to steal 9 bases. During the fall season Joey made a position switch to 3B and made 1 error in 25 chances. He continued his clutch hitting and also started 2 games on the mound.

2000 BABE RUTH ALL-STARS:
Joey helped the team to a District 6 championship and a 3rd place finish in the State, playing both SS and catcher.
CRESTDALE MIDDLE SCHOOL:
2000-01 (8th grade)
Joey was the starting 3B on the baseball team, batting over .300 for the season. He helped lead the team to a 9-2-1 record and 2nd place finish in the Eastern League. Joey received the Athletic Academic Award with a 4.0 GPA.
LITTLE LEAGUE:
Joey played 3 years for Dominoes of the Matthews American League and was a three time all-star selection.

Joey is the son of John and Terri Savago. He has one brother (Patrick) and one sister (Michele).
