Matrix 9U Black Wins Bronze Medal At Potomac Valley AAU 9-Under Division I District Tournament
The Arlington Matrix 9U Black (4th grade) AAU team earned a bronze medal for their performance at the 2008 Potomac Valley AAU 9 & Under District Tournament over the weekend of May 17-18.

The Matrix 9U Black team was one of just six teams out of fourteen total that advanced to the double-elimination medal round of the 9U District Tournament.  In their first game of medal round play, the Matrix were matched up against the eventual silver medalist MD Flames.  In a very competitive game, the Matrix fell to the Flames, 36-31, sending the Matrix to the losers bracket early on in the tournament.

With their backs against the wall, the Matrix climbed out of the loser's bracket with hard-fought victories over the Fairfax Stars (36-29) and Cardinal (42-38) despite some uncharacteristic offensive struggles.  The team's effort earned them a rematch with the Flames on Sunday afternoon.  Unfortunately, the Matrix 9s were unable to come up with another clutch victory, as they continued to struggle on offense and lost to a very experienced Flames team 44-24.

The Matrix 9U Black team's third-place finish at the Potomac Valley District Tournament earned the team a bronze medal, and increased their season record to 17-6.  The team looks forward to a few more local tournaments before heading to Kenner, LA to compete at the 2008 9 & Under AAU Nationals at the end of June.
