Matrix 13U Black Team Takes 2nd Place Trophy in Tight Summer League Final

The 13U Black Matrix team lost a 53-49 heartbreaker in last night's championship game vs. the Waves.

The Matrix jumped out to a double digit early lead, but the Waves slowly narrowed the gap before the half and then took the lead with about 8 minutes to play.  The game was a see-saw battle the rest of the way, with many excellent plays made by players on both teams down the stretch.

Despite the Matrix having only 8 players (with one fouling out), our Matrix players gave the older (rising 9th grade team) Waves players with a full 12+ person bench all they could handle.

After the game, the team was awared the runner-up trophy for the G14 division and each player received a silver medal.

This marks the third straight year that this Matrix age group has excelled in summer league.  Over the last three years, with many of the same players on two or all three of the teams, they have achieved the following:

  • 2005 -- 2nd place in post-season tourney
  • 2006 -- regular season champions
  • 2007 -- 3rd place in regular season, tournament runner-up

Although the team came up a bit short on the scoreboard in yesterday's finals, congratulations Coach H.D. Baha and all the Matrix 13U Black team players for an excellent summer season.

Go Matrix!
